RENEGADES, CAVALIERS, HOKIES ALL LOSE BUT COLONIALS WIN

The Richmond Renegades fell to the Huntsville Havoc last night 7-3, the Gades were never in this game and will play at Twin City tonight. The Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the Kansas Jayhawks last night 24-21 in the Orange Bowl, the Hokies offense just never could get on track in this one. Speaking of not getting on track the Virginia basketball sure didn't in last nights game against Xavier falling to Xavier 108-70, the Cavs were down by 30 at the half and it didn't get any better in the 2nd half. The CH girls basketball team beat Hopewell last night 61-34, the Colonials lead this one all the way and will be back at home tonight against Lee-Davis. The CH boys team will be at Hopewell tonight. It is a cool crisp 17.6 in Colonial Heights this morning but there is light at the end of the tunnel with 60 degree temps predicted next week. I was having internet problems this morning so you are very luck that you got today's entry. MICKEY

1885 - Dr. William Grant of Davenport, IA performed the first successful appendectomy on this day. I know how that feels.
1928 - NBC radio debuted one of radio’s first variety shows. The Dodge Victory Hour starred Will Rogers, Paul Whiteman and his orchestra and singer Al Jolson. The cost to produce this one show was $67,600.
1936 - The first pop music chart based on national sales was published by Billboard magazine this day. Joe Venuti, jazz violinist, was at the top of the chart with a little ditty called, Stop! Look! Listen!.
1950 - RCA Victor announced that it would manufacture long-playing (LP) records. This news came two years after Columbia Records debuted the ‘album’.
1953 - Now, you know we had to do some research for this: Tufted plastic carpeting was introduced by Barwick Mills. The new carpet was said to be mothproof and stain resistant.
1957 - Collier’s magazine was published for the last time. The periodical had been published for 69 years.
1974 - Peter Puck, by gosh, was introduced on NBC-TV as hockey was presented in prime time. The Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers were featured in the National Hockey League contest. Marv Albert was mikeside with play-by-play for NBC.
1984 - Wayne ‘The Great One’ Gretzky scored eight points for the second time in his National Hockey League career. Edmonton’s Oilers defeated the Minnesota North Stars, 12-8. Gretzky had four goals on his own and four assists. He was the Number One Star and Player of the Game for his effort.
1999 - Minnesota inaugurated pro wrestler Jesse Ventura as its 38th governor. The only Reform Party candidate to ever win statewide office, Ventura had shocked the political establishment by defeating Attorney General Hubert H. (Skip) Humphrey III and St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman in an upset victory.

Health and Diet Tip
Does your food influence your mood? People's biochemical responses to food vary dramatically. Some people respond better to carbohydrates while others feel better when they eat more protein. You need to take your body’s needs into perspective. Therefore, the only way to find out whether a particular diet treatment will work for you is to try it for a few weeks.
