REDSKINS IN PLAYOFF ACTION, RENEGADES & CH GIRLS WIN

The Washington Redskins (9-7) will meet the Seattle Seahawks (10-6) in the 1st round of the NFC playoffs this afternoon at 4:30pm in Seattle. The Skins have won there last four games while Seattle has gone 2-2 over the same period, there is a 90% of rain in Seattle today and the temp will be in the mid 40's. In todays other playoff game it will be the Jacksonville Jaguars visiting Pittsburgh to play the Steelers and there shouldn't be any weather problems in Pittsburgh today. I am predicting that the Redskins & Steelers will win today's games. The Richmond Renegades beat the hottest team in the SPHL Twin City last night 4-3 in Winston Salem, NC, the Cyclones had won 6th straight entering last nights game. The same two teams will meet tonight at the RC. The Colonial Heights girls basketball team beat Lee-Davis last night 51-42, with the win the Colonials improve to 6-3 on the season. I have posted a link below to the photos Al took at Thursday nights game with Hopewell. The Boys basketball team fell to Hopewell last night 63-40. My foot is feeling about the same, one day it feels pretty good but then the next day it feels a little sore again. I am going to try some cherry juice starting later today to see if it relieves some of my pain, allot of people have had success with cherry juice relieving gout pain. I did go down to Wal-Mart this morning but they didn't have any donuts ready so I had to eat my usual Kit Kat for breakfast. MICKEY

1885 - The Long Island Railroad Company was the first to offer piggyback rail service. It transported farm wagons on trains and moved all those potatoes pretty fast! Where did all of Long Island’s (NY) potato farms go when they were replaced by houses, houses, houses?
1925 - The first female governor in the U.S. took office in Wyoming this day. A tip of the ten-gallon hat, please, to Mrs. Nellie Tayloe Ross who was sworn in during special ceremonies.
1940 - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) got its very first demonstration of FM radio. The new medium, free of interference, static, and noise in thunderstorms, was developed by Major E.H. Armstrong. The first FM transmitter was put in operation in 1941. What did it broadcast? Talk, of course. Well, not ‘talk’ per se, but lots of talking.
1948 - Warner Pathe showed the very first color newsreel. Pictures of the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl football classic were seen by theatre audiences.
1961 - “Hello. I’m Mr. Ed!” “A horse is a horse, of course, of course”... you know the lyrics. Mr. Ed, the talking horse, debuted for what would be a six-year run. The show starred Alan Young as Ed’s owner, Wilbur Post. Wilbur’s wife, Carol, was played by Connie Hines. Good old neighbor Roger Addison was Larry Keating. The voice of Mr. Ed was... no, not Alan Young... rather, Allan ‘Rocky’ Lane... of course, of course.
1994 - Former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Thomas ‘Tip’ O’Neill died in Boston. He was 81 years old. O’Neill was a Democratic party stalwart whose political career spanned nine presidencies.
1998 - U.S. Congressman Sonny Bono (R-CA) was killed when he skied into a tree at Heavenly Ski Resort on the Nevada-California line, 55 miles southwest of Reno, Nevada. He was 62.

Health and Diet Tip
Don’t give up on your New Year's resolution. Make your resolution to change one thing weekly. Instead of resolving to lose 20 pounds in a month, stop drinking soda. Drink one less soda a day and you’ll save over 1,000 calories a week. In just one month, you’ll lose a pound without much effort. Small changes pay off in big rewards.
