COLONIALS FALL 5-1 TO DINWIDDIE, HOME VS HOPEWELL TONIGHT AT 6PM

The Colonial Heights baseball team fell to Dinwiddie last night 5-1 at Dinwiddie. The Colonials bats were held silent for the most part with only 3 hits with the highlight of those a solo HR by J.D. McCarty. Phillip Griffith pitched pretty well for the Colonials going the distance in the loss. The Colonials are now 8-7 overall and 4-5 in the CD and will play Hopewell tonight at home at 6pm. The CH softball team also fell to Dinwiddie by the score of 4-3. The Thomas Dale Knights beat Matoaca in the battle for 1st place 8-7, the Knights will travel to Dinwiddie tonight. The New York Rangers must win tonight at home vs Pittsburgh or they will be on the golf course tomorrow, it doesn't look good for the Rangers. Can you believe today is May 1 and that school will be out for the summer in just about a month, it seems like the school year just started. My PAIN index is a little higher this morning because I had to go to the dentist yesterday and my neck is a bit sore from setting in that chair. It looks like the weather will be much warmer the next 2 days here in CH, today it is suppose to get to 77 and 83 on Friday before there is chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday. MICKEY

I'm proof that great things can happen to ordinary people if they work hard and never give up.

1751 - America’s first cricket tournament was held in New York City. Cricket is a popular European sport, played by teams of 11 players who use bats, balls and wickets.
1883 - Buffalo Bill (William F. Cody) staged his first Wild West Show.
1885 - The first skyscraper in America was under construction. No, it wasn’t in New York. It was a 10-story building located on the corner of LaSalle and Adams in Chicago, IL.
1920 - The longest baseball game (by innings) was played. The Boston Braves and the Brooklyn Dodgers played an incredible 26 innings -- with the same pitchers! Leon Cadore of Brooklyn and Boston’s Joe Oeschger went the distance and saw the game end in a 1-1 tie. Rumors that the groundskeeper had to roll up the poor pitchers’ arms after play was stopped are probably not far off...
1967 - Elvis Presley got hitched to a girl he had dated since his army days in West Germany. Elvis and Priscilla Beaulieu married in Las Vegas, NV. The wedding cake, incidentally, cost $3,500. The marriage lasted until 1973.
1971 - A new word was introduced into the American traveling lexicon this day -- Amtrak. The word soon became synonymous with passenger train travel. Amtrak operates under the National Railroad Passenger Corporation. Now, people don’t take the train. They take Amtrak.
1986 - Race car driver Bill Elliott set a stock car speed record with his Ford Thunderbird in Talladega, AL. Elliott zipped around the track at 212.229 mph.

Health Tip: Exercising in Hot Weather
Heat injuries range from mild forms to more serious types, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Heatstroke -- when the body's sweating mechanism quits, the skin become hot and dry, and the body loses most fluids -- can be life-threatening.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons offers these suggestions for exercising safely in hot weather:

* Drink plenty of fluids even when you're not thirsty, and take frequent breaks during exercise.
* Get your body in good shape before hot weather hits.
* Limit outdoor exercise to early in the morning or late in the evening, avoiding the midday hours.
* Exercise more slowly and less vigorously for longer periods.
* Wear lightweight clothing, and avoid heavy gear.
* If someone looks like they're having a heat injury, seek immediate medical attention.
