CENTRAL DISTRICT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT, TORNADO HITS CRAWFORD COUNTY

The Central District basketball tournament starts tonight with Colonial Heights girls team playing at home against Matoaca at 7pm while the CH boys team travels to Petersburg to play the Crimson Wave at 7:45pm. A tornado hit Crawford County where Scott and his family live for the 2nd time in less than a year, Scott said the tornado hit about 5 miles from where they live. He said they lost power for about 15 minutes and Joy, Scottie, Dusty and the dog got in the closet while he watched the end of the Daytona 500 in the bedroom while the storm passed by. There were several homes destroyed and several people injured though when the tornado did touch down. What a difference a day makes here in Colonial Heights, yesterday morning it was 63 degrees and this morning it is 35 degrees. My PAIN index has dropped even more this morning even though I did throw some more with dad yesterday, my arm actually is feeling pretty good right now but my right ear is still bothering me though. MICKEY

You cannot attain and maintain physical condition unless you are morally and mentally conditioned. And it is impossible to be in moral condition unless you are spiritually conditioned. I always told my players that our team condition depended on two factors -- how hard they worked on the floor during practice and how well they behaved between practices.
JOHN WOODEN

1856 - The tintype photographic process was patented by Professor Hamilton L. Smith of Gambier, OH.
1878 - Thomas Alva Edison, famed inventor, patented a music player at his laboratory in Menlo Park, NJ. (This music device is the one we know as the phonograph.) Here’s the real skinny on the story: Edison paid his assistant $18 to make the device from a sketch Edison had drawn. Originally, Edison had set out to invent a telegraph repeater, but came up with the phonograph or, as he called it, the speaking machine. When asked why he invented the machine, Edison told reporters, “How else am I gonna listen to my Dixie Chicks stuff?”
1942 - The New York Yankees announced that they would admit 5,000 uniformed servicemen free to each of their home ball games during the coming season.
1985 - Mickey Mouse was welcomed to China as part of the 30th anniversary of Disneyland. The touring mouse played 30 cities in 30 days. Tough schedule even for a mouse!
1985 - Cherry Coke was introduced by the Coca-Cola Company, not at company headquarters in Atlanta, but in New York City, instead. Many who grew up in the 1950s rushed to buy the canned and/or bottled taste of nostalgia; hoping it would taste the same as they remembered ... when they sat at the corner drug store’s soda fountain and ordered, “A Cherry Coke, please.”

The little things
It only takes a minute or two for you to make a little progress. And a little progress can put you solidly on the road to a lot more.

It only takes a small effort to give a little kindness. And a little kindness can easily multiply itself again and again until it starts to make a big difference.

It only takes a simple adjustment of your attitude to build a little enthusiasm. And with a little enthusiasm you can attract the support of many others.

Small positive changes are easy to make. In between all the things you're already doing, there are numerous opportunities to fill in the spaces with extra treasures.

And the small positive changes do something much more powerful than making a difference in the world. They make a difference in you.

Get in the habit of making small positive changes, and soon you'll be experiencing big, valuable accomplishments. Let the little things put your spirit in a positive place, and that can change your life in magnificent, profound ways.

i was only a few steps away from the closet.

the tornado that hit in march was three miles away and the one that hit sunday was eight miles away. they are a little too close for our comfort.
