THE DAYTONA 500

Well another Nascar season officially kicks of this afternoon with the running of the 49th annual Daytona 500. The green flag is set to fly at 3:15pm and the pre-race show starts at 2pm on FOX. Kevin Harvick started off the Busch series were he finished last year at the top winning yesterdays Busch race at Daytona, Harvick however will not run the entire Busch series this year. I think Tony Stewart may be the man to beat today but there are several Virginia drivers who could give him a run for his money. The Virginia Cavaliers are now tied for 1st place in the ACC with UNC after beating Florida State 73-70 and UNC beating Boston College yesterday. Virginia Tech can join them at the top of the ACC standings with a win over NC State today. The UVA baseball team won yesterday 11-0 over George Washington, the Cavs will play them again today and Monday as well. The Colonial Heights wrestling team finished 4th in the Central Region wrestling tournament yesterday at Hanover out of 20 teams, the CD was represented well as Thomas place 3rd. Several CH wrestlers qualified for the state AAA wrestling tournament next week and one of our baseball players Hugh Morgan won the 135 weight class for the Colonials. The Renegades woes continued last night in Knoxville as the Renegades built a 3-0 first period lead only to blow it in the 2nd period giving up four goals en route to 4-3 loss, the Gades will try to get off the snide today when they play the Fayetteville FireAntz. Well baseball practice starts tomorrow and it looks like it is going to be cold, who would have figured. It does appear that temps will rise a bit after tomorrow but there is chance of rain later in the week. MICKEY
