HEADING TO THE OBX

I will be heading down to the OBX tonight for the weekend. Since I am going to the beach I thought I would post a sunrise photo that took last year in KDH. I am going to try to get a some new sunrise photos this weekend weather permitting. I had to check the calander to make sure it was Jan 20 and not April 20 today with temps suppose to be near 70 I thought we might have skipped a few months. The UVA basketball stunned UNC last night at U-Hall 72-68, I told Andrew last night UVA would win. The CH girls lost a heartbreaker to Dinwiddie 69-67, the boys team will play Dinwiddie tonight in CH, both teams will be off most of next week for exams. The Riverdogs will be back in action tonight and saturday night in Roanoke before returning home to play Missouri sunday afternoon. I hope everybody has a nice friday. MICKEY Posted by Picasa

THE WIND ALMOST BLEW ME OVER

The wind here in CH almost blew me over a couple of times yesterday, I thought that I might have to put some rocks in my pockets to keep me on the ground. There were some gusts over 40mph on several occasions and Virgina Power crews had a busy day with trees falling on power lines all over the area. In VA and NC there two fatal boating accidents because of the high winds, today in CH the winds have died down and the temp is suppose to be in the low 60's. The UVA basketball team will play those hated UNC Tarheels tonight at University Hall, I undersatnd Keith will be making the trip to Charlottesville. The CH girls team will be in action at Dinwiddie tonight. MICKEY

A COLD AND WET DAY HERE IN CH

It looks like it is going to be a cold and wet day here in CH, the high for today hal already occured and the temp's should fall to the low 40's by this afternoon. It is also a bit windy, but temps will rebound by the end of the week we will back in the mid 60's. The CH girls basketball team defeated Thomas Dale last night 69-56, while the boys fell to Thomas Dale 78-57, the boys were tied 31-31 at half but ran into some foul trouble in the secon half. The girls team will be back in action thursday night at Dinwiddie and thboys will play Dinwiddie at home on friday. Also today is Me Ma Ruth's birthday, I think she is 85 today. MICKEY

NOT TO MUCH GOING ON HERE

Well I hope everybody had a nice Martin Luther King Day, for most of you school and government workers it's time go back to work today. It was a pretty quite day around CH yesterday and it wasn't to busy at work either since all the schools were closed. Tonight both the CH girls and boys basketball teams play Thomas Dale, the girls are at home while the boys will travel to Thomas Dale. I have posted an old photo that I scanned the other day and I don't know the reason he is wearing the hat the he is but maybe he can explain it to us. In the comments about his pink hat George says he is going to put thay on e-bay and see if he can get anything for it, I don't know if the bids will be to high on that hat. Also, I understand there was a bit of a seating problem at a Ruby Tuesday in Georgia this past weekend. MICKEY

STEELERS SURVIVE

The Pittsburgh Steelers survived a late scare from the Colts and held on for 21-18 victory in the AFC playoffs. They tried to give the game away late when Bettis fumbled with less than two minutes to go but the Colts kicker shanked a field goal that would have tied it pretty and Steelers hold on to win a game that should not have been this close. The Steelers will travel to Denver next sunday for the AFC title game. In the NFC the Carolina Panthers defeated the Chicago Bears 29-21, the Panthers will travel to Seattle next sunday to play in the NFC title game. The Virginia Cavaliers beat the Hokies in ACC basketball action yesterday 54-49 in Blacksburg, the Cavs needed that victory. It looks like it is going to be another pretty mild weather week here in CH again, today looks like the coldest day of the week and the temp is suppose to be around 50 today. It is suppose to rain a few days this week though, I can live with that though as long as the temps are pretty mild. MICKEY

AFC AND NFC CHAMPIONSHIP POLL

The winners of the poll.

STEELERS 9 VOTES
BRONCOS 5 VOTES

PANTHERS 10 VOTES
SEAHAWKS 7 VOTES

REDSKINS FALL 20-10

The Washington Redskins fell to the Seattle Seahawks 20-10 yesterday, the Redskins offense was just terrible again yesterday. They did finally start moving the ball towards the end of the game a bit but that was only after they stopped trying to run the ball. The Skins need another WR and QB with a stronger arm and that's allot less than what the Packers need. In the other NFL game yesterday the Patriots loss to the Denver Broncos 27-13. Today at 1pm the Steelers play the Colts and at 4:30pm the Panthers play the Bears. The UVA basketball team play at Va Tech today at 4pm. The Richmond Riverdogs won there third game in a row last night beating Roanoke 3-1 at the Roanoke Civic Center, the Dogs are now off until next friday and saturday nights when the play Roanoke again at the Roanoke Civic Center. I have enclosed an old photo from Christmas past, I think the photo speaks for itself. MICKEY

Well my saturday hasn't got off to good of a start. First I didn't get much sleep last night a pretty good t-storm came thry CH around 1:30am and it lasted for about an hour and I just tossed and turned after that until I got up around 6:30am. The I get up and go down to Wal-Mart only to find that they donut fryer is broke and there are no donuts this morning, they had few on the rack that were left on the shelves from yesterday but none that I liked. So I am hoping that my day will improve as it goes on. The CH boys basketball team lost last night to Meadowbrook 85-65, CH is now 5-7 on the season. The Riverdogs defeated the Roanoke Valley Vipers 4-2 in a very entertaining game last night at the RC, I have posted a couple of photos from Dogs team photographer of a couple of the scraps last night, the Dogs play in Roanoke tonight. The Redskins are in the semi-finals of the NFC today when they play the Seahwaks at 4:30pm, GO SKINS. MICKEY

The Grenn Bay Packers hired Mike McCarthy as there new head coach, he isn't a household name but he can't do any worse than the Packs last coach. MICKEY

DOGS LOOK GOOD IN VICTORY

The Richmond Riverdogs actually looked pretty good last night in a 5-1 victory over the Port Huron Flags. The even played with a little bit of an edege and we almost had a goalie fight but coach Nichols told our goalie to stay in end of the rink when we had a bit of a melee. The Dogs are back at home against Roanoke friday night. The CH girls basketball team defeated the Hanover Hawks 53-35 last night at Hanover, the girls team has a big CD game tonight at Meadowbrook. The UVA basketball team lost to Fla St last night in OT 87-82, that was game that UVA needed to win. Fellow blogger Mark was in attendance at the Dogs game last night. MICKEY

RIVERDOGS FUTURE NOT GOOD

There is an article in today's Richmond Times Dispatch about the future of of the Riverdogs and it doesn't look good. The article states how much money the team is losing and it sounds like to me the Dogs will be done in Richmond after this season. The owner said he decide at the end of the season on next years status but I think hw has already decided it is time to move on. The CH boys basketball team fell to Matoaca last night 78-63, the CH girls team will travel to Hanover for a non distric game tonight and play at Meadowbrook thursday night. I have posted an old photo of dad back when was the AD at Colonial Height back in the 60's talking to a police officer. Also the UVA basketball team will plya Fla St tonight in ACC action, the Tarheels held off the Hockies last night in ACC action 64-61. There is a 50/50 chance of rain today here in CH but the temp is suppose to be around 60. MICKEY

FEELS LIKE SPRING NOT WINTER

It was 70 degrees here in CH yesterday and it's going to be in the mid 50's the the next two days before ending the week back in the mid 60's, for the middle January you can't beat that. The CH girls basketball team defeated Matoaca last night 80-63 to improve to 6-0 in in the CD and 9-2 overall, they have tow more games this week both on the road wed night at Hanover and thursday night at Meadowbrook. The CH boys are home tonight against Matoaca. My injured finger is improving a little bit but it is still sore and it was a bad throw that caused the injury. I see former VT QB has run a muck of the the law again, Marcus was picked up on branishing a firearm charges at Mcdonald's in Suffolk, I think it was good redence that VT got rid of him. MICKEY
