COLONIALS WIN, VCU ALSO

The Colonial Heights boys and girls basketball teams opened up there season with victories last night against Matoaca. I went to the boys game and the Colonials trailed at one point by 14 points before they rallied in the 2nd half for a 51-49 win over Mataoca, the CH boys will play again both Friday and Saturday nights in the Trinity Tournament. The CH girls team beat Matoaca on the road 44-42. The VCU Rams continued there winning ways last night beating the Rhode Island Rams 82-80, the Rams will open up CAA play on Saturday against a very good William & Mary team. Speaking of Saturday I am going back to East Carolina to see the Pirates face Houston in the CUSA Championship game and it s going to be on the cold side, hopefully it won't rain but with my luck it will. It looks like we might get some snow here in Colonial Heights on Saturday, they weather service now says the high will be in the upper 30's with mixture of snow and rain, BRRRR. I now have everybody picks for this week and I will send out the sheet tonight for who everybody picked. MICKEY

Cheese will lower your breast cancer risk—and your dental bill.
The news about cheese—except the fat-free kind—is that it contains a special kind of fat called conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, that scientists are investigating as a new weapon against breast cancer. And all that concentrated calcium—300 mg, as much as in a glass of milk, in just 1.5 ounces of Cheddar—is a boon for bone health. And finally, there's your smile: Eating hard cheese at the end of a meal can protect your pearly whites from tooth decay.

Don’t overdo it: Choose strong-flavored cheese, such as extra sharp cheddar or gorgonzola, and you'll be satisfied with less. To prevent overindulgence, take what you need, then wrap and refrigerate the rest immediately. Or choose proportioned string cheese, cheese slices, or mini wedges. At parties, take a couple of cubes of exotic types, then move on or pair cheese with another food to make it last longer.

Velveeta. First problem here -- it's not cheese. It's "pasteurized processed cheese product" comprised of vege oil, modified milk solids, stabilizers, flavorings, and other chemicals. We ate this stuff as kids and admittedly it makes a pretty delish grilled cheese, but even at a young age we were skeptical of a "cheese" that didn't need to be refrigerated at the grocery store. These days, we'll take a good Gruyere or a scrumptious Swiss over this faux food.
