REDSKINS HAVE A NEW COACH, VIRGINIA WINS

Well after letting Jim Zorn go on Monday on Tuesday the Redskins hired Mike Shanahan as there new coach, the signed him to a year contract. The Virginia basketball team won last night 72-53 over Texas-Pan American, with the win the Cavaliers are now 8-4 ans will open up ACC play at N.C. State on Saturday. The Colonial Heights boys and girls basketball teams both lost to Meadowbrook by a very large margin last night, next up for both are games with Thomas Dale. It looks like we might get a little light snow tomorrow night however they are not calling for any significant accumulation which is fine with me because I really don't like snow anymore. MICKEY

Protect your fingers.
Don't dice a digit. Cut awkward-to-slice vegetables—such as mushrooms, carrots, and peppers—by first cleaving them in half. Then rest the flat parts on the cutting board.

Keep it snack size. Your snacks should be in the 100- to 200-calorie range. That's enough to tide you over between meals, but it's not so much that your snack becomes a meal. If six or seven walnut halves look puny to you, then switch to a more robust looking snack that contains the same number of calories. How about a cup of sauteed veggies warmed in the microwave and stuffed into a small whole-wheat pita? Or maybe some low-fat, no-sugar-added yogurt with mandarin oranges and raisins? Works for us.

Here’s a nice poem worth reading:

What Is Success?
It’s doing your work the best your can,
And being just to your fellow man;
It’s making money, but holding friends,
And staying true to your aims and ends;
It’s figuring how and learning why,
And looking forward and thinking high,
And dreaming a little and doing much;
It’s keeping always in closest touch
With what is finest in word and deed;
It’s being thorough, yet making speed;
It’s daring blithely the field of chance
While making labor a brave romance.
It’s going onward despite defeat,
And fighting staunchly, but keeping sweet;
It’s being clean and it’s fighting fair;
It’s laughing lightly at Dame Despair;
It’s looking up to the stars above.
And drinking deeply of life and love;
It’s struggling on with the will to win,
But taking loss with a cheerful grin;
It’s sharing sorrow, and work, and mirth,
And making better this good old earth;
It’s serving, striving, through strain and stress;
It’s doing your noblest…that’s success!
