VIRGINIA WINS
The Virginia Cavaliers picked up there first win of the season yesterday upsetting the North Carolina Tar Heels 16-3 in Chapel Hill, NC. I think the Cavaliers will have another pretty good chance to win next week at home as well when they play host to the Indiana Hoosiers if the defense plays as well as they did yesterday. In the Mickey's Place College Football Contest nobody who was in the top 7 entering last weeks contest is in the same spot for the good or the bad after yesterdays games, i will post the updated standing soon along with next weeks games. In the NFL today the Redskins are at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in pretty much a must win game for the Skins, the Packers don't play until tomorrow night when they travel to Minnesota to play Brett Favre and his Minnesota Vikings. Mark martin will lead the field to green at the Kansas Speedway today, there are some drivers in the chase who if they don't run good today who will be pretty much eliminated from contention. MICKEY

ON THIS DAY IN
1854 - Honest Abe Lincoln made his first great political speech while attending the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.
1957 - The first Earth satellite was launched into space this day by the Soviet Union. The craft circled the earth every 95 minutes at almost 2,000 miles per hour. Sputnik I fell from the sky on January 4, 1958.
1957 - Leave It to Beaver premiered on CBS-TV. “...And starring Jerry Mathers as the Beaver,” Hugh Beaumont (Ward Cleaver), Tony Dow (Wally), and Barbara Billingsley as Mrs. June Cleaver. The Cleavers lived a surreal-American life. June even did the housework in three strands of pearls, fashion plate dresses, makeup and high heels. Life was so grand!
