COLONIALS & RENEGADES WIN, IT IS FREEZING HERE IN COLONIAL HEIGHTS

The Colonial Heights Colonials picked up it's Central District of the win of the season last night knocking off the Matoaca Warriors 56-53 at home. I did go to the game and it was good one, neither team lead by more than 7 points all night and there even were a few technical fouls handed out as well. The Colonials are now off until next Friday night when the travel to Prince George. The VCU Rams have big game this afternoon when the Old Dominion Monarchs visit the Seigel Center, the Rams have been playing very well lately. The Richmond Renegades picked up another road victory last night beating the Knoxville Ice Bears 6-5 in OT, the Gades return to home ice tonight when the Twin City Cyclones visit the Richmond Coliseum. I almost froze to death this morning getting out the car at Wal-Mart and getting to the front door of the store, it was a very cold 6.3 this morning here in Colonial Heights. I hate cold weather and I am ready for Spring & Summer. I almost forgot to mention my PAIN index is up this this morning by because my finger is hurting from opening the cats can food this week, those pop tops on those cans are not good on the fingers. MICKEY

Progress is man's ability to complicate simplicity.
Thor-Heyerdahl

Kindness and courtesy can make an average person superior; indifference and lack of concern can make a superior person average.

Play Beat the Clock
I love doing this when I'm running an out-and-back route. Begin timing your run as soon as you start. At your turnaround point, hit the split button on your running watch/timer, or just take note of your time. Try increasing your pace on the way back, with the goal of beating your time for the first half.

Great fortune
Remind yourself often of how fortunate you are. The more you realize and recall your good fortune, the more good and valuable things you can do with it.
Your true fortune has little to do with the size of your bank account or your material assets. The greatest fortune you have is life itself, and the opportunity to live each moment with awareness and effectiveness.

There is endless fortune in your ability to choose what to do with each moment. There is limitless fortune in your capacity to feel love, awe, compassion, gratitude and pure joy.

Spend some time each day thinking about how truly fortunate you are. Let the warm feeling of that magnificent fortune permeate your awareness.

Your very existence has such great and irreplaceable value that it's impossible to even imagine the full extent of it. Resolve today to make good use of all that value.

The great fortune of your life is here and now. Live it with joy and meaning.

PACKERS WIN 24-19, A SAD DAY IN COLONIAL HEIGHTS

The Green Bay Packers kicked the season of right last night defeating the Minnesota Vikings 24-19 at Lambeau Field. Aaron Rodgers ran and threw for a touchdown for the Packers in his debut as Packers QB, next week the Packers will travel to Detroit. In high school football action at the beach last night the First Flight Nighthawks improved to 3-0 with a 10-7 win over arch rival Manteo, it was the 1st time that First Flight has ever beaten Manteo in football. It was a very sad day here in Colonial Heights yesterday afternoon when a 16 year Colonial Heights High School student apparently drown while swimming with friends on Archer Avenue. Due to conditions on the river from recent rains there was extremely strong current on the river and so far Fire & EMS crews have not been able to recover the body, they will resume there search for this individual this morning at 9am, just very sad. It's really going to feel like fall here in Colonial Heights tomorrow with a high on only 70 but it will be back in the mid 80's by the end of the week. I think I might go check out the Colonials volleyball team in action tonight. MICKEY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LES

Well today is fellow blogger Les Fryar's birthday and he 70 years young today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LES. There is a rumor going around here in CH that he will be going to Sears later today and picking up something for his birthday, I don't know if this true or not though. My PAIN is back on the rise this morning because rear end is sore from sitting in the bleachers on Monday night, those bleachers are just not those comfortable. If you haven't visited Mickey's Country Music Box lately come by for a visit there are now over 1,500 different songs in the music box. I have posted the college football games that I will be picking next week to the right, there are few tough games in week 1 but then there are few teams that will be heavily favored as well. The weather the next few days here in Colonial Heights will be very nice with around 85 expected the next three days but there is a very little chance of rain. MICKEY

A SAD DAY IN GREEN BAY, DUKE AT VIRGINIA

Well yesterday proved to be a very sad day in Green Bay with Brett Favre retiring from the NFL, citing he was just plain tired. Next season could be a very long Packers now because they don't have a proven QB to go along with a very good team. The Duke Blue Devils will visit the JPJ Arena tonight, the Cavs have been playing pretty well lately and I think they might be able to pull the upset tonight. The Virginia baseball team was washed out at VMI yesterday, they will make up the game at a later date. Well we got a pretty good storm here in Colonial Heights last night, the wind and heavy rain woke me up and I even heard a rumble of thunder. Well my arm wasn't hurting as bad as I thought was going to yesterday at practice so I did throw a bit of BP before being relieved by dad, my right shoulder is pretty sore though. Also the water I had in my right ear has gone away so I can hear pretty good again. It looks like Hillary is making a late run for Democratic nomination for President. MICKEY

Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past. George Orwell

HEALTH TIP
Microwave in glass.
Pop-your frozen entree onto a glass plate or dish before microwaving. The thin plastic containers used for frozen foods have already been through several degradations when formed, then loaded with hot prepared food, and then frozen. The degradation of plastics caused by extreme heat and cold have been linked to cancer. If you must heat your food in them occasionally, do so, but NEVER reuse them over and over. The same advice goes for your plastic water bottle. Never freeze it! I DO FREEZE MY WATER BOTTLE

Past and future
What if the past existed only in your memory, and you could do with it whatever you wanted to do? It would only be able to hold you back if you allowed it to do so. And what if the future existed only in your imagination? You could do with it whatever you wanted to do. You wouldn't have to fear anything in the future. You wouldn't have to worry about anything or be apprehensive about anything in that future.

Guess what? That's exactly the way it is. The past does exist solely in your memory and the future exists only in your imagination. You can take from the past precisely what you decide to take. And you can put into the future only what you decide to put there.

The past and the future are in your mind and under your control. And also under your control is what you do right now. So take the best from your past and make use of it right now. You've already moved away from every disappointment you've ever experienced. Keep moving positively ahead. Imagine a bright and positive future because it's yours to imagine in any way you wish. And use right now to start making it happen.

RENEGADES WIN 5-4, BASEBALL SCRIMMAGE TODAY

The Richmond Renegades beat the Twin City Cyclones last night at the RC 5-4 in a very entertaining game for the most part. The Gades got of to a bit of a slow start but turned it on in the 2nd and 3rd periods, there were even a couple pugilistic endeavors in last night game as well and one of those was a pretty good one. The Gades are home again tonight against Fayetteville. Well we will have our 1st baseball scrimmage of the year today at 2pm against Trinity at Shepherd Stadium, it looks like it will be in the mid 50's at gametime a far cry from the upper 30's from just a few days ago. Keith's team the Thomas Dale Knights will also have a scrimmage game today as well, they will be playing Cosby. The Virginia baseball team is now 7-0 after beating Siena yesterday 17-2, the Cavs will play Siena again today and tomorrow as well. The VCU Rams will finish out the regular season today against William & Mary, the Rams have already won the CAA regular season title. The UVA basketball team will try to win there 3rd straight game this afternoon when the travel down to Miami to play the Hurricanes. Kyle Busch captured the pole for this weeks Sprint Cup race in Las Vegas, Busch edged Carl Edwards for the top spot. I did go down to Wal-Mart this morning and I did get some glazed donuts an they were very good. MICKEY

Health Tip: Get More Whole Grains
Whole grains are an important part of a healthy diet. They help maintain a healthy body weight and a healthy heart.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture suggests how to include more whole grains in your diet:

* Replace refined foods, such as white bread and white rice, with whole wheat bread and brown rice.
* Use whole wheat pasta in casseroles, macaroni and cheese, and other pasta dishes.
* Snack on whole grain, low-fat chips or popcorn (without salt or butter).
* Cook with whole grain flour.
* Use whole grain cracker crumbs or bread crumbs as a breading in meatloaf. I DON'T EAT MEATLOAF PERIOD.

Emerge a winner
There are some events that you can influence by making intelligent choices and by taking decisive action. There are other events and situations that are completely out of your control.

You have what it takes to successfully deal with both. There's no need to worry endlessly about what the future will bring, for it always brings you new opportunities to make a positive difference.

You can do your very best with those situations that are under your control. And you can adapt and adjust to those situations over which you have little or no influence.

The foolish actions of others can leave you hopelessly frustrated if you allow them to do so. Keep in mind, however, that there's nothing to be gained by working yourself into a knot of frustration and resentment.

Instead, accept whatever comes your way and commit yourself to finding the value in it and making the best of it. With a positive, generous sense of purpose, there's no limit to what you can achieve, even when conditions are less than ideal.

Greet each new day and each new turn of events with confidence and enthusiasm. And you'll emerge a winner no matter what.
