STORM COMES THROUGH LAST NIGHT

With temps yesterday reaching into the 100's yesterday afternoon and then last night at 11:00 still in the upper 80's we had a pretty big storm come through just after 11:00 pm.  We got some pretty strong winds and a pretty good rain but just for a short period of time and the temp dropped about 20 degrees as well.  It is suppose to be over 100 again today and tomorrow as well.  Austin Dillon won last nights Nationwide race at the Kentucky Speedway, Dillon pretty much dominated the race en route to his first career Nationwide win, Kurt Busch came in second.  Jimmie Johnson won the pole for tonight's race at Kentucky, Kyle Busch will join him on the front row.  Well I guess I better go for a run before it gets to hot.  MICKEY

THE HEAT IS ON

Well the heat will be on here in Colonial Heights with temperatures reaching or going over the 100 degree mark the next 4 days.  It looks like tomorrow will be the hottest day with temp approaching the 105 degree mark.  I hope everybody's air conditioners are working correctly this weekend because it is going to be hot. The Nascar Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series will be at the Kentucky Speedway tonight and tomorrow night.  Well next week at this time I will be packed and ready to go to the beach after I get off work, I talked to Scott again the other day he and his family are ready to make the trip to the Outer Banks.  Well I got a feeling it is going to be a very long day at work today so I guess I better head on in.  MICKEY

THE HEAT IS COMING

Well after today's temperatures in the the mid 90's the next 3 days the temperature will climb over the 100 degree mark.  It is suppose to be around 105 both Friday and Saturday before cooling down to 102 on Sunday and mid 90's by Monday.  There is only about a 20% of rain a few of those days so it looks like it is going to stay pretty dry.  Make sure you have plenty of water and Gatorade around to stay cool.  MICKEY

GOOD TRIP TO THE DENTIST

Well for the first time in a long time after I went to the dentist he did not find anything wrong with my teeth and I am very happy about that.  He had been after me for several years about getting my wisdom teeth out since I had them taken out he didn't have anything to harp on and I didn't have any cavities so I am good for another 6 months.  Well it looks like there will be a 4 team playoff in College Football starting with the 2014 season, they will use a committee to pick the 4 teams.  Everybody had better check there air conditioners because it is going be very hot this weekend with temperatures over 100 Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  MICKEY

DENTIST TODAY

Well I will be heading to one on most least favorite places today the dentist office for my 6 month checkup and I am hoping that he will not find anything wrong with my teeth.  The Arizona Wildcats won this years College World Series last night beating South Carolina 4-1 and winning the best of 3 series 2-0.  The game was tied at 1-1 before Arizona got 3 runs in the top of the 9th.  It is a very cool 60 degrees here in Colonial Heights this morning and it's only going to be 80 today but by Friday its going to be in the upper 90's to around 100.  Well I am heading to work.  MICKEY

CWS FINALS START TONIGHT

The College Baseball World Series best of the 3 Championship Series starts tonight Omaha with Arizona facing the 2 time defending champions the South Carolina Gamecocks.  I am predicting that the South Carolina Gamecocks will win there 3rd straight championship.  Nelson Piquet Jr. won yesterdays Nationwide race at Road America edging out Michael Mcdowell for the win.  Not a whole lot else going on around here, I sure could use a vacation.  MICKEY

SOUTH CAROLINA REACHES FINALS

The South Carolina Gamecocks who have won 2 straight College Baseball World Series will have have a chance to make it 3 in a row after rallying to beat Arkansas 3-2 last night.  The Gamecocks will face Arizona in the CWS Finals which start tomorrow night, South Carolina only return 3 starters from last years team.  For the 2nd week in a row Marcos Ambrose captured the pole, this time at Sonoma edging out Jeff Gordon for the top spot for tomorrows race.   The Nationwide Series will race at Road America today.  It is still going to be 90 today but the humidity has really dropped and by the middle of next week the temp will only be in the low 80's and it wont be long now before we will be on vacation.  MICKEY

IT WAS A HOT DAY ON THE TRUCK YESTERDAY

I have to say I had a very hot day on the truck yesterday at work but sometimes it beats staying in the office all the time.  At the CWS yesterday South Carolina eliminated Kent State with a 4-1 win and then they beat Arkansas last night 4-0 forcing a deciding game tonight with the winner playing Arizona in championship series.  Arizona eliminated Florida State with a 4-1 win over the Seminoles yesterday.  The Sprint Cup Series will be on the West Coast at Sonoma, California on the road course.  I sure am glad that it is Friday.  MICKEY

HEAT CONTINUES

The heat here in the Heights will continue for the next 2 days before a little relief comes in for the weekend.  Yesterday the temps climbed to the upper 90's and it will do so again the next two day before falling into the upper 80's for the weekend.  Also the humidity level will begin to come down this weekend as well.  At the CWS yesterday the game between South Carolina and Kent State was rained out and will be played today and then Florida State will face Arizona tonight.  I will be on the truck at work today because we have 2 people that will not be there so it looks like I am going to have a very long day.  Well I guess I better head to work.  MICKEY

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

HOT WEATHER CONTINUES

Well the temperatures reached into the mid 90's yesterday and it look like it will be in the mid 90's before it drops into the upper 80's for the weekend and with the humidity high as well its going to feel hotter.  Also there is not much of a chance of rain until Saturday and summer officially begins later today.  At the CWS yesterday Florida State stayed alive with a 4-1 over UCLA now if the Seminoles want to advance to the finals they will have to beat Arizona twice.  Today South Carolina will face Kent State with the winner advancing to play Arkansas where they will have to beat the Razorbacks twice to advance to the finals.  Well I am heading into the office a little earlier today because 2 people in the office are out today.  MICKEY

HEAT RETURNS TOMORROW

Well after temperatures below normal the last few days the heat will return tomorrow through Friday with temperatures in the mid 90's with higher humidity.  The warm weather starts to return today with temps approaching the 90 degree mark.  At the CWS yesterday Kent State eliminated Florida with a 5-4 win over the Gators and Arkansas beat South Carolina 2-1.  Today UCLA will face Florida State with the winner of the game having to beat Arizona twice to advance CWS Finals.  My allergies / sinuses are continuing to bother me and nothing really seems to be helping at all, head extremely congested.  MICKEY

Dale Earnhardt Jr. ended his 143 race win less streak yesterday at Michigan dominating the Michagan 400, Tony Stewart finished 2nd but was not a close 2nd.  Dale Jr, with the win moves to 2nd in the point standings just 4 points behind Matt Kenseth.  Florida State beat Stony Brook 12-2 yesterday ending Stony Brooks  run at at the CWS and they will play UCLA next, the Bruins lost to Arizona 4-0 and with the win Arizona is the only undefeated team left in there bracket.  Today at the CWS Florida will face Kent State in an elimination game and South Carolina will face Arkansas.  After spending the weekend at he beach I am not ready to go back to work this morning.  MICKEY

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

Well first off I want to wish my dad a HAPPY FATHERS DAY and to all the other dads out there a HAPPY FATHERS DAY as well, enjoy your day.  In the CWS yesterday both South Carolina and Arkansas won there games, Arkansas beat Kent State 8-1 while South Carolina beat Florida 7-3.  They will play 2 games today with Stony Brook playing Florida State in an elimination game while UCLA will face Arizona in a winners bracket game.  Joey Logano won yesterday's Nationwide race at Michigan and Marcos Ambrose won the pole for today's Sprint Cup race edging out Kevin Harvick for the top spot.  Well me and dad will be heading back to the Heights around lunch time.  MICKEY

A BIT WINDY HERE AT THE BEACH

I don't know whether I will be running outside or not here at the beach because it is a bit windy down here and I don't like to run outside when its winds.  It felt a bit on the cool side last night when we got the car last night with the wind blowing and the temps in the mid 60's.  After driving driving down beach road this morning it surprised me a bit by the number of houses that are not being rented but with most of the schools in our area getting this past week I am sure the number of houses being rented will go up this week.  They will qualify at Michigan this afternoon for tomorrows race, they just tested the new surface out at Michigan yesterday.  AT the College World Series yesterday UCLA and Arizona won, UCLA beat Stony Brook 9-1 while Arizona got by Florida State 4-3.  Well I am going to entertain Mozart for a while.  MICKEY

HEADING TO THE BEACH

Well me and dad are going to head to the beach this weekend but we will be back on Sunday for Fathers Day.  Dad needs to check up on the grass at the beach and I need some rest and relaxation.  They had another wreck behind the house last night involving at least 2 tractor trailers with 1 injury that sounded like it was pretty serious, I had a tough time sleeping after the accident.  The CWS starts in Omaha today and I hope both Stony Brook and Kent State do well among the college baseball giants.  The Nascar Sprint Cup Series is at Michigan this weekend.  My ear is still clogged up quite a bit, I hoping to have it cleared by the time we go on vacation for the week.  Well its Friday so I am going to try to stay in a good mood today.  MICKEY

PERFECT GAME IN BASEBALL LAST NIGHT

Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants pitched a perfect game last night against the Houston Astros as the Giants beat the Astros 10-0 and he struck out 14 and got great catches to preserve the win.  The College Baseball World Series will start tomorrow with 8 trying bring the championship home.  I am heading into work a little earlier today because 1 person is going to be out of the office so I have to go.  MICKEY

NOT MUCH HAPPENING

Well there sure not a whole lot going on around here this week.  We did some rain overnight but it sure doesn't look like we go that much and the weather pretty much is going to be clear and dry through Sunday. Scott text me yesterday morning and said he is already packed and ready to go to the beach and I told him I was ready o go as well, it wont be to long before we are heading down to  the OBX.  Well I guess I will head to work.  MICKEY

KINGS WIN STANLEY CUP

The L.A. Kings won there 1st Stanley Cup in the 45 year history last night beating the Devils 6-1.  The Kings broke 0-0 game open scoring 3 power play goals on on a 5 minute major penalty and never looked back.  The rest of the field for this years College Baseball World Series was set yesterday Kent State, South Carolina and Arkansas finishing out the filed of 8 and yes I will be rooting for the 2 underdogs Kent State and Stony Brook. We are suppose to get some rain here in the Heights today but looks like it is going to be later in the day before we get it.  My allergies continue to bother me quite a bit but so far this morning I am not quite as much as congested as yesterday.  I am off to work.  MICKEY

Monday, June 11, 2012

KINGS WILL TRY TO END IT AGAIN TONIGHT

The L.A. Kings will try for the 3rd time tonight to win Stanley Cup, after jumping out to 3-0 series lead the Kings have lost the last two game and I think if they lose tonight they are going to be in some serious trouble.  Three more teams punched there ticket to this years College Baseball World Series yesterday with Florida, Florida State, and Stony Brook all won there Super Regional's yesterday the rest of the field should be set after today.  Well it looks like we are going to get some rain here in the Heights tonight and tomorrow, we do need it because the NWS says we are about 4 inches behind for the year.  MICKEY

DEVILS STAY ALIVE, LOGANO WINS POLE

The New Jersey Devils beat the L.A. Kings last night 2-1 forcing a game 6 in L.A. on Monday night.  The Devils have really turned up the defense the last two games and are playing like they did against the Rangers.  The Kings need to win tomorrow night or they could be in some serious trouble heading back to New Jersey for a game 7.  Joey Logano captured the pole for this weekends Nascar race at Pocono edging out Carl Edwards for the top spot, by the way they have changed both Pocono race to 400 miles instead of 500.  In the NCAA baseball Super Regionals both UCLA and Arizona have punched there ticket to this years College Baseball World Series, the rest of the 8 team field will be set over the next 2 days and I have to say the 2 teams I will be rooting for will be Kent State and Stony Brook.  I ran outside yesterday morning and I pretty much paid for the rest of the day, just too much pollen out there.  MICKEY

Hugs Are Good for the Heart

Could a hug a day keep the doctor away? When you partake in a warm embrace with someone you love (like a parent, child, or spouse), your body releases oxytocin, the feel-good hormone, which has the power to reduce stresshormones and lower blood pressure, according to research from the University of North Carolina.

KINGS WILL TRY AGAIN TODAY

The L.A. Kings will try again tonight to finish off the New Jersey Devils in New Jersey with the Kings leading the series 3-1.  The Kings have not lost a playoff on the road the entire playoffs so I am looking for them to win again tonight.  The Nascar Sprint Cup Series will qualify at Pocono today for tomorrows race, I see there are 44 cars entered in this weeks race so only 1 car wont make the show this weekend.  It is going feel like the middle of summer here in the Heights the next few days with highs in the 90's the next few days with.  I guess I will watch some of the NCAA baseball Super Regional's today even though Virginia is not in it, hopefully the will return to NCAA College Baseball World Series next year.  I guess I will be rooting for some of the underdogs this year.  Have a nice Saturday.  MICKEY

ITS FRIDAY

Well I have to say its my favorite day of the week it's Friday and I sure am glad that it is.  It feels like it has been a very long week and I am ready for to come to an end.  The Nascar Sprint Cup Series is at Pocono this weekend and I feel like Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a good shot to win this weekend but there are allot of other drivers who run good there as well.  They will play game 5 tomorrow night of the Stanley Cup Finals, go Kings.  Well I am off to work.  MICKEY

DEVILS STAY ALIVE

The New Jersey Devils stayed alive in the battle for Lord Stanley's Cup with a 3-1 victory over the L.A. Kings.  The Devils played like the where playing the Rangers last night bu I don't think there is anyway that the will beat the Kings 3 straight games.  Well I finally got into allergy medicine after battling the package for about 10 minutes, they need to come up with a package that's a bit easier to get into for me.  In the morning the last things I want to do is try to get into that package.  Well not much else going.  MICKEY

KINGS LOOK TO END IT

The Los Angeles Kings will be looking to end the series tonight at home against the New York Islanders, the Kings lead the series 3-0 and I just don't see the Devils winning tonight.  Well it is another cool morning here in the Heights but it look like some much warmer weather is on the way with high's in the 90's by Sunday.  I do understand fellow blogger Keith is in Alabama doing some government work.  My sinuses are continuing to bother me, I think I have had more problems this year than any other year.  Well I am off to work.  MICKEY

KINGS TAKE COMMANDING LEAD

The Los Angeles Kings beat the New Jersey Devils last night 4-0 to take a commanding 3-0 series with game 4 set for L.A. tomorrow night.  The Kings last night dominated the game en route to the win and I would be very surprised in the Devils win tomorrow night.  Well Kurt Busch has been suspended by Nascar for 1 week for a dust up at Dover with a reporter, since he was already on suspension for doing the same thing to tv reporter.  Well Oklahoma beat Appalachian State twice to advance to NCAA Super Regional's next weekend at South Carolina.  Well it is going to much cooler here in Colonial Heights today and tomorrow with highs only reaching to the low 70's.  Also we will have the Spring Sport Awards at the high school tonight.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA BASEBALL TEAM ELIMINATED

The Virginia Cavaliers baseball season came to an end with a pair of 1 run losses yesterday to Appalachian State and Oklahoma.  The Cavs fell behind early in both games and made late rallies in both games but come up 1 run short in each of the them, the lost Appy State 6-5 and to Oklahoma 5-4.  Well I guess its time to turn my full attention to Major League baseball the next few months before football season starts.  They will play game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight in L.A. with the Kings leading the series 2-0.  At Dover yesterday Jimmie Johnson won yesterdays Sprint Cup race, I have to say I thinks were more empty seats than people at the race and if the races continue the way they been there are going to be more empty seats as well.  Hopefully we will be able to get our main computer fixed in the next couple of days.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA WINS ITS OPENER, KINGS WIN AGAIN

The Virginia baseball team one its 1st game in its baseball regional yesterday beating Army 9-1, the Cavs will now face Appalachian State who upset Oklahoma 5-4.  The Cavs with a win today would put themselves in a pretty good situation to win the regional.  In the Stanley Cup Finals last night the L.A. Kings beat the New Jersey Devils in OT again to take a 2-0 series lead and with the series heading back to L.A. the Kings pretty much control there own destiny.  Mark Martin captured the pole for today's Sprint Cup race at Dover edging Jimmie Johnson for the top spot, Joey Logano captured yesterdays Nationwide race at Dover.  It is very cool 53 degrees here in Colonial Heights this morning but it is going to go all the to 84 but the humidity has dropped off quite a bit.  Our main computer remains down so I am have to enter all my blog entries on the laptop.  Have a good day.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA GAME DELAYED BY RAIN, COMPUTER DOWN

The Virginia baseball game with Army yesterday was stopped in the bottom of the 1st inning with the score 0-0 because of rain and will be resumed today followed by the Oklahoma vs Appalachian State game.  The same system that went through Charlottesville yesterday came through Colonial Heights last night giving us some very heavy rain and caused the power to go out which caused our main computer in the house to go out and it hasn't been on since.  Also across the river in Petersburg they had some significant damage from the storm.  They will play game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight in New Jersey with the Kings leading the series 1-0, a Kings win tonight could go a long way in them winning the Stanley Cup.  They will run the Nationwide race today at Dover and the Sprint Cup race tomorrow, it looks like they will get both races since that bad weather has moved out.  Well I am going to see if I can get the other computer working again.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA BASEBALL TEAM RETURNS TO ACTION

The Virginia Cavaliers baseball team return to action today at 11am against Army weather permitting in the Charlottesville Regional of the NCAA baseball tournament.  In the other game in Charlottesville Appalachian State will face Oklahoma with the winners playing against each other tomorrow.  There could be some very rough weather here in Heights today, the National Weather Service has put a higher risk of storms for our area today.  Hopefully the rough stuff will stay away.  I sure am glad that it is Friday, even though we were off on Monday it has been a very long week at work, just been very busy.  This week the Nascar Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series will be in Dover Delaware this weekend weather permitting.  Well I going to work.  MICKEY
