HURRICANE SAND DOES ALLOT OF DAMAGE
Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast yesterday causing major damage from North Carolina to New York. Here in the Colonial Heights area the damage was very minimal but down at the beach the Outer Banks was hit pretty hard. Also in Virginia the Eastern part of the state was allot of flooding and there was some damage in the Northern part of the state as well. The New Jersey and New York area appears to be the hardest hit areas, hopefully things will get better up there soon. It is also very cold this morning here in the Heights with temps in the upper 30's. MICKEY

REMNANTS OF HURRICANE SANDY
Well we are going to be experiencing the remnants of Hurricane Sandy here today in Colonial Heights with some strong winds and some heavy rains a little later today. So far here in the Heights there has not been much here in city except a little wind yesterday. The San Francisco Giants won the World Series sweeping the Tigers 4 straight games. In the NFL the Packers won while the Redskins lost yesterday. Jimmie Johnson won yesterdays Sprint Cup race at Martinsville holding off Kyle Busch for the win and by doing so now leads the Brad Keselowski in the point standings. Well I am going to head to work. TOM TAKES A 3 GAME LEAD
Well after 9 weeks of the contest Tom has taken a 3 game lead over Bobby and a 5 game lead over Steve and Murph. This past weeks games took its toll on several contestants and now there are only 7 players within 7 games of 1st place with everybody else 10 or more games back with positions 8-16th only separated by 4 games. This past week Jonathan had the best week going 16-8 and now has won more weeks than anybody else and with little more consistency in the other weeks would be battling for a top spot. Lee had the roughest week going 8-16 and is now tied with Phillips at 122-89. There some more very difficult games this week which could create some more separation at the top of the standings. EFFECTS OF SANDY
Well the question is will we get any effects from what is now Tropical Storm Sandy here in Colonial Heights. The weather forecasters have been going back and forth on how bad its going to be here and in other parts of the state and they still really don't know. I know one thing the storm has been good for and that is sales at the grocery store. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens but I hope whatever happens is not to bad and the power does not go out. MICKEY

I SURE AM GLAD THAT IS FRIDAY
I have to say I sure am glad that it is Friday, it feels like it has been an extremely long week. The San Francisco Giants beat the Detroit Tigers again last night 2-0 to to take a 2-0 series lead in the World Series with series heading back to Detroit. The Colonial Heights football team will be on the road at Prince George tonight. The Virginia football team is off this weekend trying to regroup for the remainder of the season. The big weather story this weekend is where will Hurricane Sandy go. MICKEY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH
Well today is fellow blogger Keith Goulder's birthday, Happy Birthday Keith. The Giants took game 1 of the World Series 8-3 last night. Hurricane Sandy is threatening to make a run at the east coast and the way it look it could hit anywhere from Virginia to Massachusetts, hopefully it will stay out to sea but that is not looking likely. Well I do have all the picks in for this weeks games and I will send them out later today. Speaking of later today I have to go to the dentist later today, I don't like going to the dentist. MICKEY

WORLD SERIES SET
The San Francisco Giants pounded the Cardinals last night 9-0 to win the NL Championship Series and move on to the World Series where the will face the Detroit Tigers. The Giants won the final three games of the series just like they did against the Reds so if they fall 3 games behind in the series against the Tigers I guess the Giants will have them where they want them. It is going to be very warm here in the Heights today with temps in the 80's but by Saturday the high temps will be back 60's. Well I am going to head to work. MICKEY

PACKERS WIN, REDSKINS LOSE
The Green Bay Packers beat the St. Louis Rams yesterday 30-20 the while the Redskins suffered a heartbreaking loss to the New York Giants in the final minutes of the game. The San Francisco Giants beat the Cardinals last night 6-1 to force a game 7 tonight in San Francisco. Matt Kenseth won yesterdays crash filled race at Kansas, Bras Keselowski still leads the point standings with 3 races to go. Well I am heading to work. MICKEY

TOM & BOBBY STILL TIED
Well after 8 weeks of this years pick-em contest Tom and Bobby are stilled tied for 1st with Steve, Muprh and Julianne lurking just 3 games back. Erik, Chiz and Joy are within striking distance but need to make up some more games pretty quick. The top 12 players are within 10 games of 1st place. This past week Julianne and Dan had the best weeks going 18-5 while Lee had the toughest week going 11-12. Also there is a good battle going on for 16th place with 8 players separated by less than 3 games. It looks like this weeks games are going to be much tougher than last weeks games. MICKEY

A TOUGH NIGHT FOR THE COLONIALS
I have to say it was a very tough night for the Colonials football team falling to Dinwiddie 66-20, the Colonials trailed at the half 52-0 and for some reason Dinwiddie kept kick onside kicks. I can understand doing it as an element of surprise but when you are up by 42 I think it is a bit much and from what I understand they don't do this against the really good teams on there schedule. Down at the beach Manteo lost there 1st game of the season falling to Plymouth 44-8 and Hertford beat First Flight 30-21. In college football action to the Virginia looks to end there losing streak at home against Wake Forest, I am going to be watching this game from home. In the NL playoffs last night the Giants stayed alive beating the Cards sending the series back to San Francisco with the Cards leading 3-2. Kasey Kahne captured the pole for tomorrows Sprint Cup race at Kansas. Well I guess I will watch allot of college football today. MICKEY

COLONIALS AT HOME TONIGHT
The Colonial Heights Colonials football team will be back in action at home tonight against a very good Dinwiddie team, game time is set for 7pm. The Detroit Tigers moved on to the World Series after beatin the Yankees again last night by doing so swept the might Yankees 4-0. In the NL the Cards beat the Giants again and now lead the series 3-1, the Cards can finish off the Giants tonight at home. The Sprint Cup Series will be at Kansas this weekend. It is raining a little bit here in the Heights this morning with some heavier rain on the way this morning. Well I am off to work. MICKEY
Thursday, October 18, 2012
ALL THE PICKS ARE IN
I am glad to say that all the picks are in for this weeks contest and I will be sending out who everybody picked a little later today. The Cards took a 2-1 series lead in the NL Championship Series last night while the AL series was rained out, both series will be in action today weather permitting. Well I did a bit more Christmas shopping last night night online but I do have quite a bit more to buy. Well I am heading to work. MICKEY

TIGERS ONE WIN AWAY
The Detroit Tigers are now just 1 win away from winning the AL Championship Series after beating the Yankees again last night. The Tigers will go for the sweep tonight in game 4 of the series and NL Championship also resumes tonight with series tied at 1-1. The picks for this week games have been extremely slow coming in this week, hopefully everybody will get them in on time this week. MICKEY

I HAVE SLEPT WELL
The last few days I have to say that have slept pretty well. For about the last two weeks before that I kept waking up about 2 hours before I should but the last few days I have slept like a rock. The Giants evened up there series with Cardinals last night 1-1 in the NL Championship Series. The Yankees and Tigers will resume there series tonight with the Tigers up 2-0. Well I guess I will go to work. MICKEY

A GOOD DAY FOR MY NFL TEAMS
Well yesterday was a good day for the 2 NFL teams that I root for the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins. The Packers beat the Titans last night 42-24, the Packers jumped on the Titans and never looked back. The Redskins beat the Vikings yesterday behind RG3 good day 38-26, RG3 76 yard TD run put the game away for the Skins. In the MLB Playoffs the Tigers beat the Yankees again to take a 2-0 series lead and the Cards beat the Giants to take a 1-0 series lead. I have to say its pretty nice outside this morning after being pretty cool the last few mornings it is a very balmy 63 this morning. MICKEY

2 WAY TIE AT THE TOP
Well after 7 weeks of the contest Tom and Bobby are tied for the top spot with Steve and Murph just 3 games back. Chiz who was in 2nd dropped back to 5th place after having a bit of a tough week. The top 14 players are within 10 games of 1st pace. Bobby had the best week going 18-6 while George had the worst week going 10-14. The battle for the last spot is heating up a bit with George and Gerald tied for the spot. I have to say there are some very tough games this week so things could get a bit interesting at the top. It also looks like the list of contenders is getting smaller while the pretenders list is getting bigger. Good Luck to everyone next week. MICKEY

HEADING DOWN TO EAST CAROLINA
I am going to be heading down to East Carolina this afternoon to watch the Pirates face the Memphis Tigers. This will be my first trip down there this season. The Virginia football team will be at home against Maryland today. The Colonial Heights football team lost on the road at Hopewell last night 28-7, and down at the beach First Flight beat Bertie 13-10 and Manteo remained undefeated with 49-18 win over Perquimans. In the MLB Playoffs yesterday the Cardinals and the Yankees advance to the next round of the playoffs. In the AL the Yanks will face the Tigers and in the NL the Cards will face the Giants. Greg Biffle will statrt on the pole tonight in Charlotte, Biffle edged out the old man Mark Martin for the top spot. Joey Logano won the Nationwide race last night. MICKEY

STILL WAITING FOR 1 PERSONS PICK
Well I am still waiting for 1 persons picks this morning and I have to say that I am none to happy about it. I have not decided whether or not I am going to accept this persons pick because it has been a constant problem, I will decide today. In the MLB Playoffs the yesterday the Yanks beat the Oriloes to take a 2-1 series lead and the A's and the Tigers series is now tied at 2-2. In the NL the Giants and Reds are now tied at 2-2 while the Cards now lead the Nats 2-1. I am going to work. MICKEY

COLD RAINY MORNING
It is a cold rainy morning here in Colonial Heights, there is not much rain on the radar but the biggest green cell appears to be right over the city. It is going to make it into the 60's today and there is just a 30% chance of rain. In the MLB playoffs last night the Orioles beat the Yankees evening the series up a game a piece and the Cardinals beat the Nats as well evening up there series a 1-1 as well. The Reds will be at today looking to sweep the Giants. Well I am going to work. MICKEY

REDS WIN, PACKERS & REDSKINS LOSE
The Cincinnati Reds beat the San Francisco Giants last night to take a 2-0 series lead with series heading back to Cincinnati only needing win one more game to advance to the NL Championship Series. The other MLB winners yesterday where the Nationals, A's, and Orioles. In the NFL the Packers lost to the Colts 30-27 while Redskins lost to the Falcons 24-17. TOM TAKES THE LEAD
Well after 6 weeks of the Mickey's College Football Pick Em Contest Tom leads Chiz by 1 game and Bobby, Steve and Murph by 2 games. In the past few weeks the top had not been the best place to be. This past week Sean had the best week going 18-6 and moved up 8 spots in the standings and is now in 9th place. There several players who had rough weeks going 12-12. The top 5 players in the contest are within 2 games of first and the top 14 players are within 10 games of first. Also through 6 weeks of the contest there have been 10 different weekly winners which is pretty good. There are some more very tough games next week. MICKEY

VIRGINIA LOOKS BAD, REDS WIN
The Virginia football team looked as bad as they have all year yesterday losing to Duke 42-17, the Cavs actually lead the game at half 17-14 but decided not to show up for the second half. It got so bad that I had to change channel. In the MLB Playoffs yesterday the Tigers beat the A's 3-1 and the Big Red Machine beat the Giants 5-2. Today in the NFL Green Bay will be at Indianapolis and the Redskins will be at home against the Falcons. It does look like we will have another leader in our college football pick em contest this week, updated standing coming out later today. Kasey Kahne captured the pole for today's race at Talladega edging out Ryan Newman for the top spot. Well the weather sure changed overnight, it is cold out there this morning. MICKEY

COLONIALS, VIRGINIA LOOKS FOR AN ACC WIN
The Colonial Heights Colonials fell to Matoaca last night on homecoming 26-6 to the Warriors. The Colonials were down 12-6 at the half and played hard the entire game but just couldn't get anything started offensively in the 2nd half. Down at the beach Edenton Holmes beat First Flight 53-7 and Manteo remained undefeated with 65-0 win over Northside. In college football action today the Virginia Cavaliers will looking for an ACC win on the road at Duke, the Cavs have struggled with Duke in recent years. In the MLB wildcard games last night the Cardinals beat the Braves and Orioles beat the Rangers. Today the Cincinnati will face San Francisco and Oakland will face Detroit. Well I hope everybody has a good Saturday. MICKEY

HOMECOMING TONIGHT, BASEBALL WILDCARDS
Well its Homecoming tonight in Colonial Heights at 7pm when the Colonials face the Matoaca Warriors and at game time it looks like it is going to be in the 70's at kick off with low humidity. The MLB playoffs start today with a pair of single elimination games, The Braves will be at home against the Cardinals and in the AL Baltimore will be at Texas. This week the Nascar Sprint Cup Series will be at Talladega where all the chase drivers will be trying to avoid the big one. Well I am going to work. MICKEY

Well MLB playoffs will officially start tomorrow with a pair of wild card playoff game, the NL it will be St. Louis at Atlanta and in the AL it will be Baltimore at Texas. In high school football action tomorrow night it will be homecoming when Colonial Heights faces Matoaca. Well I am heading to work. MICKEY

PICKS A BIT SLOW COMING IN
Well I have to say that the picks for this weeks games have been a bit slow coming in to say the least. Hopefully they will pick up a bit today, I guess some people are taking a little extra time because they are trying to make a run for the top spot. There is a 80% chance of rain today so you might want to take your umbrella with you. Well I am heading to work. MICKEY

PACKERS & REDSKINS WIN
The Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins both picked up wins yesterday in very close games. The Packers beat the Saints 28-27 while the Redskins got a later field goal and beat Tanpa 24-22. Brad Keselowski won yesterdays Sprint Cup race at Dover after several drivers had to pit late in the race for gas and Keselowski also leads the point standings as well by 5 points over Jimmie Johnson. Its hard to believe today is October 1 which means Christmas is just 2 months away and I just started my Christmas shopping. Well I going to work. MICKEY
