MICKEY, OUT OF ACTION TODAY

After throwing batting practice four days in a row I will be out of action today with several undisclosed ailments. Let's just say I am hurting pretty bad and I just need a little time to recover from a few injuries, the pitching machine will have to see some action today. The Richmond Renegades will be at home tonight against the Knoxville Ice Bears in which will be a 1 game home stand, the CAA basketball tournament will be at the RC next week so the Gades won't be back at home for another 2 weeks. The AAA sate high school wrestling tournament begins today in northern Virginia, Colonial Heights will have three wrestlers going for state titles. The UVA baseball team begins a three game home stand with Bucknell this afternoon. Were in the world has Keith been, the government must have him working to hard. The Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series will be racing at the California Speedway this weekend. MICKEY

1886 - Charles M. Hall completed his invention of aluminum. He produced it using electricity; and just in time for wrapping the 20th century’s lunch sandwiches, too!
1905 - The Rotary Club was founded in Chicago, IL by Attorney Paul Harris. A national association of the very popular civic club was formed in 1910. In 1922 the organization which was for men only, adopted the name Rotary International. It continues with millions of members throughout the world -- both men and women.
1927 - U.S. President Calvin Coolidge signed a bill into law that created the Federal Radio Commission, “to bring order out of this terrible chaos.” The president was speaking, of course, of the nation’s then unregulated radio stations. The commission assigned frequencies, hours of operation and power allocations for radio broadcasters across the U.S. The name was changed to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on July 1, 1934.
1960 - Wrecking crews began to demolish the venerable home of the Brooklyn Dodgers: Ebbets Field in New York City. The wrecking ball came in a little high and outside...
1968 - Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia 76ers wowed the home crowd at the old Philadelphia Arena by becoming the first pro basketball player to score more than 25,000 career points.

UVA FALLS BACK INTO 2ND PLACE TIE

The Virginia basketball team fell to Miami last night 68-60 and by doing so fell back into a 2nd place tie with Virginia Tech with 9-4 ACC record. UNC knocked of NC State and now are in 1st place by themselves with 10-3 conference record and Virginia Tech hammered Boston College last night. Next up for UVA is home date with Georgia Tech on Saturday. The UVA baseball team continued it's winning ways beating Coppin State 12-0, the Cavs will start a 3 game series with Bucknell on Friday at Davenport Stadium. I am hurting a bit more this morning and my aches and pain index is continuing to climb. I have posted an old Christmas photo of Keith and Pa Pa, in the photo Keith appears to have gotten a backgammon game for some reason. MICKEY

I AM HURTING

Well after two days at baseball practice I am officially hurting. I have a blister on my right big toe and every muscle in my back, shoulders, arms and legs are hurting. I am sure that I will have to take some Advil at some point today but I should be able to throw a little bit if needed today at practice, the pain index is still on the rise though. The Virginia Cavaliers basketball team will return to the floor tonight at Miami, the Cavs must win tonight to keep pace with UNC which plays NC State at home tonight. Another big ACC game tonight has Boston College traveling to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech. The UVA baseball team continued it's winning ways yesterday hammering William & Mary 17-2, today they will face power Coppin State before a weekend series with Bucknell. I have posted an photo from past of Me Ma Ruth holding a baby, can anybody tell who that baby is? Well I have to say I cant complain about the weather yesterday and it appears that it is going to be much milder the rest of the week also which is very good for baseball practice. It doesn't look like that we are going to get any big snows this year. MICKEY

BASEBALL PRACTICE UNDERWAY

Well baseball practice got underway yesterday and it was a little cool but it wasn't to bad once I started throwing some. We weren't able to get on the infield at the stadium yesterday but we were able to hit in the outfield. I think we should be able to get on the infield by this afternoon since it didn't freeze last night and it is going be windy and warm today which should dry out the infield a bit. As you can tell my aches and pain index has began to climb a bit, I do have a blister on my right big toe and my arm is a little tight but I should be able to throw some this afternoon if needed, I think I will probably be hurting worst Wednesday. The UVA baseball team completed a three game sweep of George Washington yesterday winning 15-2, the Cavs will face William and Mary today in Charlottesville. The UVA basketball team is back in the top 25 in both the coaches and writers polls, the Cavs will play at Miami on Wednesday night. Well today isn't a government holiday so all you government workers need to go back to work today. MICKEY
