IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE A NICE DAY
Well it looks it's going to be a very nice day here in CH with temps in the upper 80's with lower humidity today. However the nice temps will not last to long as the heat and humidity will start to build over the next few days with temps in the mid 90's for the most part. Scott will be on 2 week vacation after working tonight and I am quite sure he is ready for his vacation to start. The Nextel Cup and Busch Series both will be at Daytona this weekend with the Busch cars running tonight and the Nextel Cup cars saturday night. There are several drivers who need a good run or they will be on the outside looking in for the championship run. Gary I hope you can keep everybody under control at Southside tonight and I hope that you don't have to ban anybody foeife tonight. I have posted an old slide from the past of two fellow blogger on the beach at Nags Head. Also the wedding counter continues to get lower. MICKEY

SCOTT'S NEW PHONE
Well I talked to Scott last night on his new phone and I have to say my ear is still ringing, that phone sounded like it was about 5 times as loud as his old one. I had to put it about 2 inches from my ear it was so loud. Scott only has two more nights of driving before he goes on two week vacation and from the sounds of it he is ready for a vacation. We were washed out again yesterday on Appomattox baseball action last night because the field was still unplayable because of the rain over the last few days, all these rainouts are not good for us because we just don't have enough pitching to play 6 or 8 games a week. Since Scott and family will be heading to the beach real soon I thought would post an old photo Scott on a previous trip to the beach eating breakfast and it appears he was very hungry that morning. SOME PARTS OF VIRGINIA GET HAMMERED BY STORM
Over the last few days here in Va some areas to the west of have received over 10 inches of rain and to the east of us here in CH they have received 5-10 inches of rain. Here in CH we have only received about 1-2 inches which we really needed but here in CH we haven't seen the type of flooding that most of the areas to the east and west of us have, the James River is going to be well over flood stage by tonight and into thursday because of all the rain in the Roanoke area. Down on the Outer Banks there was some pretty bad beach erosion yesterday that you can see in the photo I posted from down there. The storm now has moved well north of us now so the sun will be back out in full force today. The CH Appomattox baseball team will be back in action tonight at Deep Run High School at 6pm, that's if the field playable tonight because of all the rain. Andrew spent the night here in CH last night and yes I do have him walking a straight line now, I think he spent most of last night keeping a baseball scoresheet of the Yankees and Braves game. I don't know about there rest of yall but this week seems to be flying by to me. MICKEY

BASEBALL WASHED OUT
The CH baseball game last night in the Appomattox League against Hopewell was washed out and postponed until a later date, our next game in the league wednesday night at Deep Run weather permitting. At the CWS Oregon St won the national championship with a 3-2 victory over UNC on a throwing error in 8th inning, UNC had several chances to in the 6th and 7th inning but failed to score. Scott has already had some phone issues with his new provider, just one week after reieving his new phone #'s he has had to change all the #'s again because when he called Macon it was a long distance call. CH BACK IN ACTION TONIGHT
The CH Appomattox baseball team will be back in action tonight at 6pm against Hopewell weather permitting. There is a pretty good chance of rain today here in CH but there was a better chance yesterday and all we got was some drizzle. The UNC Tar Heels were unable to hold on to 5-0 lead last night and fell to Oregon St 11-7, the deciding game in CWS is tonight at 7pm and will be winner take all. Jeff Gordon picked up is first win of the season yesterday at Sonoma, I didn't see the race live but after watching the highlights it looked like a demolition derby out there yesterday. Keith did yall take any photos on your trip to Baltimore, if so post a few. Well after running outside and throwing batting practice in warehouse yes my legs are pretty sore this morning, I did put a little heat on my left leg so I am hoping it will be feeling better here soon. we went to see jason sponsler run his 3rd race ever yesterday at old dominion speedway. we got there at 4:30 and jason and crew were thrashing on the car trying to get it ready for the 7:00 start they got it finished with about 2 mintues to spare!! i'm sure they got it done in time because of the help that the drivers mother contributed to the team as documented in the thrashing picture!!! i happy to report that there are no new broken finger nails!!!
DIDN'T DO MUCH YESTERDAY
Well I have to say I didn't do much of anything yesterday, I did go over to MeMa Ruth's at lunch time but besides that I just watched sports on TV most of the day. Keith, Maureen, and Andrew went up and saw O's play the Nationals in Baltimore, maybe Keith will post a photo or two from the trip when he gets back into town later today. Paul Menard won his 1st race on the Busch Series last night in Milwaukee, he could be DEI next big driver to make it on the Nextel Cup Series. I have to say I did watch part of the IRL race from Richmond and it was a pretty boring race, sure the cars are flying around RIR but I am glad I didn't pay money to see that race. The Nextel Cup Series will race this afternoon on the road course in Sonoma, California, there probably won't be to much action in this race either. The UNC Tar Heels are just 1 win away from winning the CWS after beating Oregon St last night 4-3, game 2 of the series is tonight 7pm on ESPN2. Well I think I am going to run outside this morning so I will probably be complaining about my legs being sore on monday. MICKEY

ANOTHER CLOUDY DAY
It looks like it is going to be another cloudy if notrainy day here in CH and from the looks of the forecast the next several days are going to be wet also. We got a pretty good steady rain here in CH for about 5 hours and we couple of t-storms as well. The CWS championship series starts tonight with UNC playing Oregon St in a best of 3 series, I think that i will have to root for the Tar Heels in this one. Qualifying for the IRL race in Richmond was washed out so the field was set by there practice speeds from earlier in the day. Kurt Busch is on the pole for this weeks NASCAR race in California, there are several road racing aces in the field this weekend. Well that's about all that's happening around here. MICKEY

CLOCK ADDED TO BLOG
I saw a clock on somebody else's blog and I thought it might look good on Mickey's Place, what does everybody think of the clock. The World Cup is over for the US soccer team after yesterday's 2-1 loss to Ghana, if the would have one yesterday the would have advanced to the 2nd round because of Itlay's upset of Czech Republic. At the CWS it will be Oregon St against UNC in a best of three series starting saturday night at 7pm, Oregon St beat Rice 2-0 last night. The Nascar Nextel Cup Series visits the road course at Sears Point this weekend, I don't really car for road racing myself. The IRL is in Richmond this weekend, I went to the IRL race a few years ago but I didn't like it that much, they do fly around RIR though. It looks like the temps will cool off some over the next few days here in CH but the humidity is suppose to remain very high though, by cooling off the temps will be in the mid to upper 80's. MICKEY

THE HEAT IS ON
The heat is on, well at least for the next two days with temps in the mid 90's and heat index over 100 I hope everybody's AC's are working. It was a tough not on the ball diamond last night as CH fell to Thomas Dale twice 9-5 and 2-1. In the 1st game there just to many errors and just to many runners left on base and in the second game we played great defense and got good pitching but didn't get any offense. Keith you might be leaving at the wrong time because it looks like TD maybe pretty good in baseball the next few years. The next game for CH will be at Hopewell on monday night. At the CWS UNC is the only remaining undefeated team as they sent Cal St Fullerton back to California, in the other game Oregon St defeated Rice. Today Rice will play Oregon ST again with the winner advancing to play UNC in the finals of CWS. The US soccer team will play Ghana this morning at 10am, the US has to in this game in the World Cup if they want to have any chance of advancing to the next round, even if they win they would still need a little help to advance. CH BACK IN APPOMATTOX LEAGUE ACTION TONIGHT
CH will return to the ball diamond tonight in Appomattox League baseball action against Thomas Dale at 6pm. CH record is now 2-0 as the league commisioner ruled the 2nd game with Prince Geoge did go far enough before the rains came, TD played Petersburg monday so the will probably come in out 2-0 also and if the rumors are true should bring in a very good team to CH tonight. At the CWS Cal St Fullerton beat Clemson 7-6 and Oregon St beat Miami 8-1, today UNC will play Cal St Fullerton and Rice will play Oregon St. The Miami Heat are the NBA champions after beating Dallas 95-92 last night, they won 4 straight games after Dallas won the first 2 games. HURRICANES WIN THE CUP, CH WINS OPENER
The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 last night in game 7 to win the Stanley Cup, the Canes never trailed in this one and let 2-0 going into the 3rd period and added a empty net goal late and held on for 3-1 win. I have posted a few photos that I got from the Fox Sports site. CH picked up it's 1st win of the season in Appomattox action last night defeating Prince George 8-7, in the 2nd game we were leading by a couple of runs when the rains came and we will have to finish that game at a later date. CH will play Thomas Dale wednsday night at Shepherd Stadium with the gametime set for 6pm. The weather here in CH is going to be hot the rest of the week with a slight chance of t-storms each day with temps in the mid 90's with some it may feel like 100 or more on several days, if feels like Georgia weather in the Virginia. The Georgia Bulldogs were knocked out of the college baseball world series yesterday by Oregon St 5-3, today Clemson faces Cal St Fullerton and Miami faces Oregon St., Rice and UNC are the only two undefeated teams left in the CWS. If you cut a hailstone in half and count the rings, that information will tell you how many times the hailstone fell and rose within the a thunderstorm's updrafts.

The cool rush of air preceding a thunderstorm is caused by the downward force of rainfall, and this rush of air is approximately 1-2 miles ahead of the oncoming storm!

OPENING NIGHT FOR APPOMATTOX RIVER LEAGUE
Well tonight is opening night for the Appomattox River League and CH will be playing at home against Prince George, gametime is 6pm and we will play 2 5 inning games against them. We also play wednesday night at home against Thomas Dale at the same time. Tonight somebody will win Lord Stanley's Cup, the series is tied at 3 games a piece, the game is in Raleigh so I am hoping the Hurricanes can bring the Stanley Cup to the Tar Heel state. I just thought I would wish all you fathers out there on Mickey's Place a Happy Father's Day and since it is your day to take it easy today. Well the Edmonton Oilers have forced a game 7 with a 4-0 win over the Hurricanes last night in Edmonton, I think the Canes maybe in trouble now because BIG MO has changed now. The United States soccer team will be back in action at 3pm this afternoon in the World Cup against Italy in a must win game for the US if they want to advance to the 2nd round of the World Cup. In the NHL tonight the Stanley Cup playoffs resume with game 6 in Edmonton, the Hurricanes can win the cup with a victory and the Oilers can force a game in Raleigh with a victory. Perdue makes movie acting debut
By Kate Brumback
ASSOCIATED PRESS
ATLANTA - Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue made his acting debut Wednesday playing a college football coach in the upcoming film "We Are Marshall."
The film chronicles the worst disaster in U.S. sports history - the 1970 plane crash that killed nearly the entire Marshall University football team - and a small town's recovery from that tragedy.
"I fit the role perfectly as an old jock," said Perdue, who was a freshman walk-on on the University of Georgia's football team. "It was exciting. I always wanted to be a football coach, and I'm playing a head coach of East Carolina University."
LOOKS LIKE NICE WEEKEND SETTING UP
After receiving rain all day wednesday in CH from what was left of Alberto it looks like the weather is going to be very nice for the weekend. It is going to warm up though with temps in the mid 80's to low 90's over the next 5 days with very little chance of precip. I am thinking about heading down to the beach this weekend but decide until friday for sure. The Carolina Hurricanes blew a chance to win the Stanley Cup in Raleigh last night losing to the Oilers 4-3 in OT on a shorthanded goal by Edmonton. The Cincinnati Reds are now 2 games out of first place in the NL Central after yesterday's win, the Reds haven't played well since I mentioned how good they were doing on Mickey's Place. Meanwhile the Braves streak of championships appears to be over as the Braves are 12 games out of 1st place and there pitching woes continue to lead there problems. My arm is very sore this morning from throwing batting practice yesterday, I just haven't been throwing enough the last few weeks so I every time when throw my arm is usually sore the next day. LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IN CH
Well today is the last day of school in CH for students and I know that there are a few fellow bloggers who happy about that even though they will will have to work a few more days without students. I always like the lst day of school. What's left of TS Alberto will be bringing us rain today here in CH and from the looks of it on the radar this morning it looks like that we could receive several inches before the system moves back out over the Atlantic Ocean later today. The Carolina Hurricanes can win the Stanley Cup tonight with a win tonight in Raleigh, I think the will win tonight. I know that it will be hard to beat yesterday's old photo so I though I would post and old baseball photo from back when I played for Post 284, it was taken back in 1985. MICKEY

Well today is tuesday the 13th and my day didn't get off to the best start because my atomic clocks alarm went off about 5 minutes early causing me to miss 5 important minutes of sleep. I hope that is not an indication of how the rest of the day is going to go. The US soccer team got off to a pretty rough start yesterday in the World Cup falling to the Czech Republic 3-0, there next game will be against Italy on June 17. The Carolina Hurricanes are just 1 in away from winning the Stanley Cup after last night 2-1 victory over Edmonton, the Canes can win the Cup in Raleigh wednesday night. Speaking of Hurricanes well almost TS Alberto hit Florida last night bringing heavy rain to west coast of Florida just north of Tampa, it is suppose to track up the east coast to NC and the back out over the Atlantic Ocean, I have posted the stormtrack that I got from the Weather Underground. I have also posted a photo which came to me in US Mail with no return address of a fellow blog member from back in his high school days. MICKEY

It has also decided that at this time that there will be no vote either to allow any other members, the veterans committee will address this issue at again a later date which means there is still only one member of the Wiffle Ball Hall of Fame at this time. We are getting some much needed rain here in CH this morning and it looks like we will be getting some rains showers on and off all day. A CLOUDY SUNDAY MORNING IN CH
Well it's a pretty cloudy morning here in CH but there is only a 30% chance of rain today but the temps are not suppose to get out of the 70's. I went to the Legion game last night at Shepherd Stadium in which Post 284 lost to Lakside Post 125 3-1, there wasn't much offense in this game and Post 125 used 3 different pitchers to slow Post 284 down. We have Appomatox League practice this afternoon, our season does not began until June 19 at home against Prince George. The Monacan Chiefs won the AAA sate baseball championship yesterday 9-8 over Oakton, this is the same Monacan team that lost to Matoaca 3 times this year. The Thomas Dale boys soccer team won there 2nd straight AAA championship 2-1 over Gar-Field, the TD soccer team has won 47 straight games. The Carolina Hurricanes lost 2-1 to Edmonton last night, the Hurricanes still lead the series 2-1. I have posted an article from the Goulder Press, I made this with a program that we have on the computer just to see how it would turn out. DONUTS NOT GOOD AT ALL
I have say the the donuts this morning that I got Wal-Mart were not very good at all, I couldn't even eat both of them they were so bad. I think I am going to have to stop buying them, the last few times just haven't been that good. I was even going to get the glazed ones this morning but they really looked bad so I stayed with chocalate ones and I probably just stayed away from the donuts all together. Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is tonight in Edmonton, with a win tonight the Hurricanes can take a 3-3 lead in the series. Denny Hamlin is on the pole for this weeks Nextel Cup race in Pocono, most of the Virginia drivers had a pretty good qualifying runs. The Monacan Chiefs the only baseball team left from the Central Region will play for AAA State Championship today against Oakton, Monacan beat Menchville yesterday 6-5 in the 7th inning. I have posted my Blogmaster Trading Card for anybody who might want one, I will be happy to sign it for anyone also for nominal fee. I have been informed by the veterans committee of the wiffle ball hall that a decision on whether Mark will be granted direct entry into the HOF for his years of service in wiffle ball will be made on monday. BLOG PROBLEMS
I know there have been a few problems over the last few days posting a comment on the blog, the company that the server on has been down a few times for maintenance this week and hopefully they are now finished with it but I am not sure of that. Has anybody seen or heard anything from Keith, he went to NJ earlier in the week and it apears he has dropped completely of the blog this week, no comments on anything. The biggest sporting event in the world starts today and that would be the World Cup, the US team doesn't appear to play until monday though and most people aren't giving them much of a chance. Don't forget to vote on the wiffle ball question posted on yesterday, as of now the veterans committee doesn't think there is enough interest to have another hall of fame vote but will make a ruling on it by monday. I found this old family photo and I thought I would post it. Have a nice day, MICKEY
