A COLD AND WINDY PRACTICE
I have to say yesterdays baseball practice was very cold and windy, it's just miserable there for a while but once started throwning batting practice I wasn't quite as bad. My arm is very sore today and I am questionable for this afternoons practice. The balls were coming off the bats pretty good yesterday for as cold as it was. The NHL returns to action tonight from the Olympic break, I just hope the Rangers can continue to play the way they were playing before the break. Tonight's lottery is worth more that $250,000,000 so go out and get a ticket, you can't win if you don't play. Since there is not much going on I thought I would post another old photo from the past, there are couple of bloggers in this one. Also in the photo is Bernard putting on a show for the camera. BLOG 1 YEAR OLD
With all the discussion going on about the Hall of Fame voting I missed the 1 year anniversary of the first post I made on the blog. The blog turned 1 year yesterday and when I first started it I didn't know it if anybody would look at it or not. It has had some controversy a few times over the year but for the most part it has been pretty good. I am always looking for new members to contribute and some of our current members who haven't posted in a while to return "Gary". If anybody would like to join Mickey's Place just send me an e-mail and I will sen you an invite. Matt Kenseth won yesterdays Nextel Cup event at the California Speedway and it was a quite boring race, I have posted a photo of him in victory land from the AP WIRE. The Richmond Riverdogs got pounded yesterday by Adirondack 5-1 in Glenn Falls, NY it was the 1st game of a long road trip. Scott have you and Joy recovered yet from the Kid Rock concert yet, are your ears still ringing. It looks like the weather this week in CH is going to be pretty good after we get by today, on thursday it is going to be in the mid 70's. MICKEY

ROD TAYLOR LEADS DOGS TO VICTORY
Former Richmond Renegade and Hampton Roads Admiral Rod Taylor came out of retirement last night help the Riverdogs who were playing 4 man short because of injuries. In his return Taylor scored 2 goals and which lead the Riverdogs to a 4-1 victory over the Roanoke Valley Vipers at the RC in front of a crowd of 7,143 last night. I have posted a couple of photos of Tayor that the two Dogs team photographers took last night. Taylor was only signed for last nights game. The Riverdogs play in Adirondack this afternoon. The Virginia Cavaliers were embarrased yesterday at Clemson falling to the Tigers 90-64, this team simply cannot win on the road. Greg Biffle won yesterdays Busch race in which the top 11 finishers were Nextel Cup regulars. Todays race comes on at 3:30pm on FOX. The top two vote getters in the HOF Vote were Willie Heinze and JP Tree with 15 votes and Mark and Keith each with 14 votes but the veterans committee ruled no one will join him in the HOF, there was a total of 85 votes cast. Don Knotts who played Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith show died at the 81 friday, I have posted a couple of photos of him that I got from the AP Wire. MICKEY

HALL OF FAME RULING
The final ruling has come down from the veterans committee and it reads as follows:
The arbitrators, the honorable Les Fryar ,who was the only person coming out of Pa. inthe 60's on a bus, the next best thing to an empty bbus, and the honorable Bill reade, the grand old man of wiffle ball, both biased and unfair , have ruled that no one has 75%of the vote ,therefore no one will enter this year class of the hall of fame. They feel the vote was difinitely tainted and the reaction from the White Sox contingent was arrogant as evident by comments on the bblog. It is hoped that the White Sox will do the right thing and show some remorse and become more humble. They commend Scott for some but not all of his comments. They all agree that at this time only the old catfish is worthy of Hall of Fame recognition. This ruling should put an end to the nonsense that has transpired.

HALL OF FAME TALK
The Hall of Fame Talk about wiffle ball is by far the most commented entry on the blog both good and bad. There were some good points made for people who think the should be in HOF and there was some things that I wish that weren't said. I think we me may have lost a member of the blog over the topic but I hope he will reconsider and stay with us as a member because he is a good contributor to the blog. The Veterans Committee is about to make a ruling on the voting for the HOF and he might have some comments about some of the fraud in the voting. The Richmond Riverdogs back on home ice for the first time in 3 weeks lost to the Danbury Trashers 6-3 at the RC, it was 3-3 going into the 3rd period before the Dogs meltdown. The good news for the Dogs is that they play Roanoke tonight a team that has won only about 3 of there last 20 games, it does appear that both Richmond and Roanoke will not be in the UHL next year. In Nascar Kurt Busch won the pole position of sundays race at the California Speedway. Also next saturday we have our first baseball scrimmage of the year at Shepherd Stadium. MICKEY

RIVERDOGS BACK IN TOWN
The Richmond Riverdogs will be back in town for two games this weekend and then they will have an extended road trip and won't be back in Richmond until March 25. Tonight the Dogs will play Danbury and saturday night the Roanoke Vally Vipers come to town. The Nextel Cup Series visits California this weekend for the Auto Club 500 on sunday, qualifying for the race is later today. We had another good practice yesterday afternoon at the stadium and the weather is looking better today than yesterday. My arm and legs are sore but I am not in any severe pain right now. The Hall of Fame vote is extremely tight and the veterans committee is looking at some comments that have been made, some of them appear to have gotten personal and the veterans committee will decide whether he needs to take action against those individuals. BASEBALL PRACTICE MOVED INDOORS
With wet field conditions at the stadium we had to move baseball practice to our indoor facility yesterday. It looks like it the stadium may be off limits again today because of persistent light rain overnight. We did allot of hitting in the cage yesterday so my arm if very sore, plus I took three balls different parts of my body in the cage, I also have several undisclosed injuries. The USA and Canadian hockey teams are finished in the Olympics and are heading home, it was expected of the USA team but Canada was picked to win the gold medal. I AM A BIT SORE
Well after getting snowed and rained out monday we were able to get on the field yesterday for our first day of baseball practice and I am paying for it today. I am already sore and I got a feeling it is going to get worst as the day goes on, my arm and my legs are hurting. Dad says his foot is hurting a bit also so it was a pretty tough day for coaches yesterday but overall it was a good practice. It looks like it might rain today so we might have to move practice indoors. The UVA basketball team picked up a big victory beating #11 Boston College last night 72-58 at U-Hall and I think Keith might have been in attendance for this one. The CH girls basketball season came to and end last night falling to L.C. Bird 56-43, the Colonials did have a very good season. Nascar has given crew chief Chad Knaus the next three weeks off for his violations at Daytona. In closing nobody won the lottery again last night it be over $200,000,000 for fridays drawing. MICKEY

Baseball practice yesterday was cancelled because of soft field conditions at the stadium from the snow yesterday morning. Things are looking good for today though, it is suppose to be sunny with high's in the mid 50's, however there is a chnce of rain wednesday. The CH girls basketball team will play at L.C. Bird tonight at 6pm in the regionals against Bird. I have posted a photo that someone posted on the web of Jockey's Ridge covered with snow. BASEBALL PRACTICE
Well today was suppose to be the first day of baseball practice but Mother Nature has delt a blow to that. We got about an inch of snow overnight and it is coming down as of 6:30am, it is also snowing at the beach and they have close schools down there because of the weather. We got more snow this time than we did last week when they were calling for 3-6 inches, they sure can mess the forecast up. Jimmy Johnson won yesterday's Daytona 500, there was a bit of aggresive driving by Tony Stewart in the race and a few others, but there really wasn't a major crash like they have had in the past few years. I woul have rather seen someone else win though. The CH girls basketball team will play L.C. Bird in the regionals tuesday night at 6pm at L.C. Bird. The USA Hockey team continued to struggle losing to the Swiss team 2-1 in the Olympics yesterday, they play Russia on tuesday. The photo of the tennis courts is of the snow at the beach. MICKEY

THE DAYTONA 500
Well the official start of the 2006 Nextel Cup Season is today with the running of The Great American Race, The Daytona 500. Will a Virginian bring home the trophy or will somebody else, I think the last few laps of this race are going to be very wild. Tony Stewart survived yesterday to win the Busch race, there was huge crash on the last lap of that with several very hard impacts. I have posted below the top 5 vote getters in my blog poll of who is going to win the Nextel Cup this season. The UVA basketball team took it on the chin again yesterday falling to Fla. St. 76-62, I think they might need Keith to travel to some road games with them. The Riverdogs didn't fair much better yesterday either losing to Kalamazoo 8-3, the Dogs were never in this one. The Dogs will return home friday and saturday night before hitting the road for another 4 weeks before they return home. It was 14 degrees this morning here in CH, by far the coldest morning we have had this year. We are suppose to start baseball practice monday, but the weather isn't looking to good for that, I guess we will have to wait and see. MICKEY

DALE EARNHARDT (1951-2001)
It was five years ago today that Dale Earnhardt (7 Time Nascar Champ) died on the last lap of the Daytona 500, I have posted a photo AL took many years ago of him. Mark Martin won the truck race last night at Daytona and Matt Kenseth won the IROC race. Today the Busch Series will race at Daytona. It looks like we might get a little light snow today here in CH, not much accumulation is expected though. The Virginia Cavaliers play at Florida St. today in a game the Cavs need to win at 4pm. The Richmond Riverdogs got 6-5 SO victory last night over the best team in the UHL Muskegon, at one point in the game the Dogs were winning 5-0. Tonight the Dogs continue there roadtrip when the travel to Kalamazoo the play the Wings. There is good news from Wal-Mart this morning the donut maker showed up for work so I was able to get my donuts. I didn't win the lottery last night either, nobody did so I guess I will have to play again tuesday night when it will be worth $170,000,000. MICKEY

It is going to be a very warm 72 degrees today here in CH and in the mid 60's friday, it's to bad baseball practice didn't start today. It looks like it is going to be in the low to mid 40's the first couple of days of practice and there is a chance od precip a couple of those days. The CH girls basketball team had rough night last night falling to Prince George 38-33 in a very sloppy game played by both teams and neither team had good night shooting either. Prince George just did enough to get the victory. The Colonials will play in the regionals next week against a yet to be named opponent. The Richmond Riverdogs opened up the flood gates on scoring last night pounding Roanoke 8-1 at the RCC, the Dogs have to play Muskegon and Kalamazoo this weekend, two very good teams. The two Daytona 500 qualifying races are today at noon to set the rest of the field for the 500, the races can be seen on TNT. MICKEY

The 500 pole went another Virginian with Jeff Burton capturing the poll for sunday Great American Race. The Riverdogs win streak cam to an end yesterday with Dogs falling to the Frostbite in SO 3-2 the Dogs to pick up 1 point for the loss in the SO. BARELY A DUSTING
Well if the weatherman would have stayed with there original forecast they would have been right, because all we got was a dusting if you could call it that. It is still snowing a little this morning very lightly, I took these photos around 7:30am. I think we should re-name weatherman and call them weather guessers.
The Virginia Cavaliers pulled one out in OT last night over the Hokies 81-77 in a game that never should have gone to OT, the Cavs where up by 16 at one point before they blew the lead and actually trailed for a while, but a win is a win. Speaking of wins how about those Dogs they defeated Danbury in a SO last night 5-4, they can complete the weekend sweep with a victory over Adirondack this afternoon, I don't think they have beaten the Frostbite all season. New Dogs coach Kris Waltze is now 3-0. The Bud Shootout was rained out last night and will be run this afternoon starting around 4:20pm, qualifying for the Daytona 500 is a noon today. The ARCA race will be run at 9:30am this morning on SPEED. I will post some of Andrews birthdays photos later today when Al brings them by. MICKEY

CH will play the loser of that game tuesday night. UVA will play host to MOO TECH today at U-Hall, the UVA baseball team won there opener yesterday 5-3 over The Citadel. The Richmond Riverdogs won again last night 5-2 over Elmira, the Dogs are in Danbury tonight. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE
Well today is Georges birthday he is 30 something, I am not exactly sure how old he is, Happy Birthday George and I hope all your sports teams luck continues. Tonight the CH girls basketball team will play Meadowbrook with a chance to time tie them for the CD Title, if the Colonials win tonight they would force a 1 game playoff with Meadowbrook to determine the #1 seed for the CD tournamnet. I went down a threw a lttle bit at the wharehouse last night trying to get my arm in shape so it won't hurt as bad ofter the first day of practice, it's a little sore this morning. Someone told me Dale Jr wasn't in the Bud Shootout sat night, well I looked at the participants for the shootout and Dale Jr is in it, the race will be saturday night. MICKEY

A VERY COLD MORNING
It is a very cold 24 degrees here in CH this morning, my body can't get use to the up and down temperature swings. The UVA basketball team looked good early last night building a 13 point lead but ran out of steam late in the game falling to Maryland 76-65. I think the problem was Keith wasn't in attendance. The CH boys team loss to Matoaca last night 91-70, the CH JV team did get a 1 point victory over Matoaca. A member of the blog will be having a birthday thursday, stay tuned for it is. MICKEY

It does appear that both Al and Keith are posing for the photo. The CH girls basketball team defeated Matoaca last night 57-41 setting up a showdown with Meadowbrook thursday night at CH. The JV girls team also picked up a victory last night as well. The boys team will be at Matoaca tonight. With the Super Bowl now over racing is the next thing to get started and that happens this week with the Bud Shootout saturday night at Daytona and qualify for the front row of the Daytona 500 on sunday. STEELERS WIN SUPER BOWL
The Pittsburgh Steelers won there 5 Super Bowl in franchise history defeating the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 last night. It was a pretty good game for the most part but the Steelers use two big offensive plays to seal the victory and the defense did the rest. I have posted a couple of photos that I got from the AP wire from the game. The CH girls basketball team will be back in action tonight at home against Matoaca. Two weeks from today baseball practice will get underway, that is weather permitting. It looks like a cold weather pattern is starting to set up for the next few weeks according to the weather service, lets hope we can keep the snow out of here. MICKEY

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Well all the trash talking and hype will come to an end today as the Super Bowl will be played tonight. It will be Super Bowl XL with the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Seattle Seahawks, the people who voted on Mickey's Place picked the Seahawks to win. I have to say that I will have root for the Steelers to win. The Virginia Cavaliers picked up an ACC win yesterday defeating the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 75-73. The Riverdogs extended Roanoke losing to 10 games with a 3-2 victory last night at the RC, Kris Waltze got his 1st win as coach for the Dogs. The Dogs will now be on the road until Feb 24. Also AL Lewis "Grandpa Munster" died yesterday at the age of 82, I just saw him on The Munsters on TV Land last week, I didn't know he was still living. MICKEY

COLONIALS UPSET HOPEWELL
The CH Colonials stunned the Hopewell Blue Devils last night 88-86 in OT, the Colonials were lead by Kyle Mears with 24 points on senior night for the Colonials. It has been a while since the Colonials boys team beat Hopewell in basketball. The Richmond Riverdogs also pulled off an upse last night defeating the Danbury Trashers 3-2 in a shootout at the RC, the Dogs will also be home tonight against Roanoke. I have posted a couple photos from 2 fights that took place during last nights game taken by the Dogs team photographer, the same two guys fought twice. This will be the last home for about two weeks, the circus is coming to town. My good weekend continued to be good this morning when I went down to Wal-Mart and the donuts were ready on time, but it is raing here in CH this morning. The final results of the Super Bowl Poll were Seatle with 52% of the vote while the Steelers got 48%, 23 people voted in the poll. I hope nobody's computer got infected with that virus that was unleashed yesterday, so far so goo here. MICKEY

A BALMY FRIDAY IN CH
It is going to be a very balmy 70 degrees today here in CH and what more can you ask for on Feb 3. It is going to start to turn a bit colder after saturday though. Both the JV and Varsity girls basketball teams won last night at Hopewell, the varsity score was 70-47. The Riverdogs will host Danbury tonight at the RC, it could be a long night for Dogs they haven't beat Danbury all year. I had trouble getting on blogspot this morning that why some things may be missing from today's blog. MICKEY

I HOPE HE DOESN'T SEE HIS SHADOW
I sure hope that Mr. Ground Hog doesn't see his shadow today meaning two more weeks of winter, I am already ready for spring and some more warm weather. The Richmond Riverdogs won last night at the RC 4-2 over Roanoke keeping them winless in there last 8 games. There was a buzz around the RC with everything going on with the team, the backlash appears to falling on the owners of the team and the RC. I just hope there is some type of hockey in Richmond next year and it does appear some thing are in place for that, but with City of Richmond you never no how that will turn out. The CH girls basketball team will be at Hopewell tonight, the girls are in second place in the CD by themselves 1 game behind Meadowbrook.
