The Virginia Cavaliers picked up an ACC road win last night knocking of the N.C. State Wolfpack 61-60. The Cavs lead the entire game but had to survive a last second shot by N.C. State which come up short preserving the Cavs victory. The Cavs will return home on Tuesday to face the Clemson Tigers. The VCU Rams also picked up 1 point win avenging a loss earlier in the year beating Georgia State 59-58 and with the win the Rams remain 1 game behind CAA leader George Mason. The Rams will be on the road at William & Mary Wednesday night. I have to say that I didn't sleep very well again last night, just to congested to sleep very well. MICKEY

The Virginia Cavaliers and the VCU Rams will both be on the road looking for road victories today. The Virginia Cavaliers will be in Raleigh, NC to face the N.C. State Wolfpack where the Cavs always seem to struggle. The VCU Rams will be on the road in Atlanta facing the Panthers of Georgia State, the Panthers beat VCU earlier in the year. The Colonial Heights boys basketball team lost to Hopewell last night 70-49, Hopewell ran a full court press the entire game which slowed the Colonials offense which never was able to get on track, there was no report on the Colonials girls game. My head was extremely congested this morning and I have taken sinus and allergy medicine to try to relieve the problem, I woke during the night and couldn't breathe through my nose at all. MICKEY

The Virginia Cavaliers went on a late run last night against Boston College and knocked off the Eagles 66-49 in a game that was much closer than the final score indicated. The Cavs don't have much time to enjoy this win however because they will be back in action at N.C. State tomorrow. The Colonial Heights Colonials basketball team will be at home tonight against Hopewell while the CH girls team will visit Hopewell. I didn't sleep very well last night and then once I fell asleep I was woken up by a vehicle fire a few doors down at about 3am, when I looked out the front door there was a pickup truck full involved. VCU WINS, BOSTON COLLEGE AT VIRGINIA

The VCU Rams improved to 8-2 in the CAA and 17-5 overall with a 67-42 win over winiless Towson who now is 0-22. The Rams lead by 18 at the half and never looked back, the Rams will travel down to Georgia State on Saturday. The Virginia Cavaliers will at home again tonight against Boston College, the Cavs will be looking for a better result than they had on Sunday against Virginia Tech. It looks like we are going to have a couple of days in the low 60's here in the Heights before turning a bit cooler for the weekend. MICKEY

The VCU Rams will be back in action tonight at win-less Towson, that's right win-less Towson. It's hard to believe that in this day and time of scheduling that they didn't schedule anybody that they can beat, they are 0-21. Well my mouth is just at about 100% again, not quite but it is getting but I my right ear is now my biggest concern it is still clogged up. My right arm is getting a week off from throwing this week because of exams at the school, exams will end on Thursday. MICKEY

VCU didn't play it's best game of the season last night against Hofstra but they did play good enough to come away with a 61-49 win the. The Rams remain 1 game behind George Mason for the top spot in the CAA and will face 0-21 Towson next on the road tomorrow night. The Colonial Heights boys and girls basketball teams are off until Friday night when they face Hopewell because they are taking exams. MICKEY

VIRGINIA TECH UPSETS VIRGINIA, SUPER BOWL SET

The Virginia Tech Hokies upset the Virginia Cavaliers last night at the JPJ Arena 47-45. The Cavs trailed by 4 at the half and then lead by 4 before Virginia Tech was able to come away with a 2 point win. The Cavs will face Boston College next on Wednesday night. The VCU Rams return to action tonight at home against Hofstra. Well this Super Bowl is now set with the Patriots and Giants coming away with wins yesterday. In the AFC the Patriots held off the Ravens 23-20 when the Ravens kicker missed a field goal that would have tied the game as time expired. In the NFC the Giants needed OT to beat the 49ers 20-17 in OT, the Giants got there chance in OT when the 49ers punt returner fumbled giving the Giants great field position to come away with the win. Well it does look like it is going to be a pretty mild week weather wise with high temps in the 50's and 60's all week. MICKEY

VCU WINS, VIRGINIA AT HOME AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH

The VCU Rams overcame a sluggish start in beating the Old Dominion Monarchs last night 61-48 in a key CAA match-up. With the win the Rams are now in a 3 way ties for second place in the CAA with Old Dominion and Drexel and are chasing George Mason who are 7-1 in CAA play. The Rams will be back in action at home against Hofstra. The Virginia Cavaliers will be looking to keep Virginia Tech winless in the ACC tonight when the Hokies visit the JPJ Arena, the Cavs are 2-1 in the ACC while Tech enters the game at 0-4 in the ACC. Well after today's action in the NFL we will know who will be in this years Super Bowl. In the AFC Championship Game the Baltimore Ravens will be at New England where the Patriots are favored and in the NFC Championship Game the New York Giants will be at San Francisco to face the 49ers where the 49ers are slight favorites to win. I am predicting that it will be the Giants against the Patriots in this years Super Bowl. MICKEY

The Colonial Heights Colonials picked up there first Central District win of the year last night upsetting the Matoaca Warriors 88-84. The Colonials lead just about the entire game and led by 10 at the half and extended there lead to 20 in the 3rd before Mataoca made a late run to cut the lead to 3 points before the Colonials where able on and get the win. In college basketball action today the VCU Rams will be at home against the Monarchs of Old Dominion in a big CAA match-up for both teams, I think the Rams will win but it will be a very close game. Well it looks like it is going to be cool rain day here in the Heights today and it doesn't look like it is going to get below freezing here in the Heights the next 5 days which is fine with me. The Virginia Cavaliers went down to Atlanta last night and crushed the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 70-38. The Cavaliers left little doubt in this game leading by 18 at the half and then extending there lead in the 2nd half beating the Jackets by 32, next up for the Cavs is Virginia Tech on Sunday and the Hokies have not won a ACC game yet this year. The VCU Rams needed OT last night to beat the William & Mary 69-68, what an I say sometimes yup have to win ugly but I am sure the coaches at VCU weren't happy with the game being this close. The Colonial Heights girls basketball team beat Petersburg last night 33-30 at home while the boys team lost at Petersburg 86-57. The Colonials boys team will be back in action at home tonight against Varina. I am a bit sore this morning from throwing some more BP last night and I will be throwing again tonight trying to build up my arm strength getting ready for the 1st official day of practice which is just a little over a month away. It was 2 years ago today that Me Ma Ruth passed away and it sure doesn't seem like it has been 2 years, just like Pa Pa she is missed everyday. Well its already 25 degrees warmer than it was yesterday at this time and its going to make it all the way into the mid 60 today before dropping back into the 40's tomorrow. The temps have really been going up and down the last few weeks and by Sunday it looks like it is going to be back into the low 60's. Well today Mozart Goulder is 2 years old, it's hard to believe that he is already 2 and understand that he might even get a cake for his birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOZART. The Green Bay Packers season came to an end yesterday at the hands of the New York Giants 37-20. From the start of the game it looked like the Giants wanted be there and the Packers didn't but I thing the Giants had allot to do with that. The Packers turned the ball over to may times and dropped to many passes against a good team to win the game. It doesn't matter how good you played in the regular season if you cant win in the playoffs, I can understand it a whole better if the Packers would have played but to play like they did yesterday I think there allot of upset PAcker fans today. In the AFC Playoffs yesterday the Ravens beat the Texans 20-13 and the Texans gave the Ravens everything the wanted but came up just a little short, the Ravens will play at New England for the AFC Championship. The Green Bay Packers will face the New York Giants this afternoon at Lambeau Filed with the winner advancing to the NFC Championship Game next week where they will face the San Francisco 49er's. The 49er's upset the New Orleans Saints yesterday 36-32 in a very wild finish where 4 TD's where scored in the final 4 minutes and 9 seconds of the game. In the AFC playoff game yesterday the New England Patriots crushed the Denver Broncos 45-10 ending Tebowmania for this year. The Broncos where simply just over-matched in this game, the Patriots will play in next weeks AFC Championship game against the winner of today Baltimore Raves vs Houston Texans game where the Ravens are heavy favorites to win. In college basketball action yesterday the VCU Rams picked a win on the road at Delaware 68-55, the Rams played a very good defensive game yesterday. The New York Rangers continue to play some very good hockey, last night the Rangers beat the Maple Leafs 3-0 and now have the best record in the NHL and will play at Montreal today. GO PACKERS. The NFL Playoffs resume today with a pair of games in San Francisco and New England. In the first game of the day it will be the New Orleans Saints traveling to San Francisco to face the 49ers in the NFC where the Saints will be be favored on the road. IN the AFC the Denver Broncos will be heavy underdogs tonight when they travel to New England to face the Patriots, however the Broncos have the x-factor Tim Tebow. In college basketball action today when the face Delaware, the Rams need to win this game to stay towards the top of the CAA. The Virginia Cavaliers put up a good fight last night at Duke but in the end Duke had just a little to much for the Cavs beating the 61-58. The Cavs lead by 4 at the half but had one bad stretch were Duke built there lead to 9 points and the Cavs just couldn't recover. The VCU Rams ended there 2 game losing streak beating James Madison 64-45, JMU made a couple of runs in the game but VCU was just to much for the Dukes. In high school basketball action last night the CH boys team lsot Collegiate 55-47 while the CH girls team lost to Thomas Dale 32-28. The CH boys team will be at home tonight against Thomas Dale. Well its quite a bit colder this morning than it was the last few days and the high won't make it out of the low to mid 40's the next few days and its a bit breezy this morning as well. Well I went back to the oral surgeon yesterday and he unpacked my dry socket and it hurt pretty bad until I took some Advil last night however so far this morning it is just sore but the pain is not throbbing so far. The Virginia Cavaliers basketball team will be on the road at Duke tonight for what could be it's toughest test of the season so far this year. I think the Cavs will have a very tough time tonight facing Duke and the refs who always seem to be a little bit intimidated by the Cameron Crazies. The VCU Rams return home tonight to face the JMU Dukes, the Rams will be looking to end a 2 game losing streak. Well I threw about 400 pitches last night and about 250 the night before and by right arm is very sore this morning, its a good thing that I don't have to throw again tonight because I would be very questionable. I will also be heading back to the oral surgeon today to let him look at my dry socket again, since he re-packed the other day it has felt pretty good. It is going to make it into the 60's today but after today the high are only going to be in the 40's the next 3 days though. MICKEY

A RAINY DAY

Well it looks like it is going to be a very rainy day here in the Heights, there is a 100% chance of rain both today and tonight and it is going to be on the cool side as well with temps in the upper 40's. Well after going back to the oral surgeon yesterday my mouth is feeling much better, he re-packed my dry socket which took most of the pain I was having away. He said I din't have any infection and the soft tissue was healing very well and pretty much that the pain I was having was just from the slow healing process at my age. I do have to go back tomorrow to let him look at it again. Well try to stay dry today. MICKEY

MURPH WINS THE CONTEST, ALABAMA BCS CHAMPIONSHIIP

Well this year Mickey's College Football Pick-Em Contest was won by Murph who held of The Chief & Bobby for the win. This was Murph's 1st win of the contest and with Murph winning there still is no one who has won the contest more than once in the 4 years that I have had the contest. I will send out an e-mail later this week with a complete overview of how everybody did this year and I hope everybody who participated in this years contest will com back and play again next year. I already have 1 new player lined up for next years contest and would like to get to 25 players for next years contest. The Alabama Crimson Tide captured the BCS Championship game last night in New Orleans dominating the LSU Tigers 21-0, the Tide scored on 5 field goals and 1TD but the they missed the xtra point on the TD and with last nights game the college football season has officially came to an end. I will be heading back to the oral surgeon today, I have been in allot of pain the last few days. MICKEY

GIANTS TO FACE PACKERS, VCU LOSES AGAIN

The New York Giants beat the Atlanta Falcons yesterday 24-2 yesterday in New York to advance to the next round of the NFL Playoffs where they will face the Green Bay Packers next weekend. In the AFC yesterday the Denver Broncos upset the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-23 in OT when Tim Tebow threw a 80 yard TD pass on the 1st play of OT after the Steelers had tied the game late and seemed to have all the momentum on there side. Tebow picked a good time to have his best game as a pro leading the Broncos to the win. Well tonight they will play the BCS Championship game in New Orleans when Alabama faces LSU, this game really could go either way but I think I would rather see Alabama win. The VCU Rams lost another CAA game last night this time on the road at Drexel falling to the Dragons 64-58. My mouth continues to be very sore, as long as I take some Advil I don't feel to bad but if I don't take them it is very sore. MICKEY

The Virginia Cavilers opened up ACC play yesterday with a 52-51 win over the Miami Hurricanes at the JPJ Arena. With the win the Cavaliers are now 14-1 and have won 12 straight games and will have a huge test at Duke on Thursday night. The VCU Rams will be back in action tonight on the road at Drexel, the Dragons have not lost a game at home all year. In the NFL Playoffs yesterday the Texans won there 1st playoff game in franchise history beating the Bengals 31-10, the Texans will be play in Baltimore next week. The New Orleans Saints beat the Detroit Lions last night 45-28, the Saints will travel to San Francisco next week. The Packers will host the winner of today's Falcons vs Giants game. I woke up this morning at about 4am with my mouth hurting quite a bit, I am hoping that I am not have a relapse. I will be a heading home from the beach later this morning. MICKEY

In high school basketball action last night Colonial Heights fell to Prince George. The NFL Playoffs start today with a pair of games, in the AFC Cincinnati will be at Houston and in the NFC Detroit will be at New Orleans. I am at the beach for the weekend and it is like a ghost-own down here which made for a very pleasant drive down here last night and its suppose to be a very nice day down here as well with temps in the low 60's. My mouth continues to be a bit sore, there is no sharp pain except when I eat but guess that is to be expected after you have all 4 of your wisdom teeth removed. MICKEY

Well it is going to be a very mild day here in Colonial Heights for it to be the first week of January. It is suppose to make into the low 60's today and tomorrow as well before dropping back into the low 50's Sunday and Monday. Well I went to back to my oral surgeon yesterday and he unpacked my dry socket to see how it would feel after he took it out and I have say it felt pretty good the first few hours after he took it out however it is a bit sore this morning. The pain is no wear near it was the other day when he put the packing it but it is a bit sorer than I would like to be. The Colonial Heights boys basketball team will be in action at home tonight against Prince George, the Colonials girls team lost to Prince George. VCU FALLS AT HOME

The VCU Rams lost to the Georgia State Panthers last night 55-53 at the Siegel Center. The Rams trailed for most of the game and made a late run but just came up short suffering there 1st CAA loss of the year. With the loss the Rams are now 11-4 will play at Drexel next on Sunday night. In case you missed it last night West Virginia crushed Clemson last night 70-33, I sure didn't see this coming and if there was ever a jeckle and hide tide this year it was Clemson. Well one week ago today I was getting ready to to get my wisdom teeth taken out and week later I am slowly starting to improve, I am getting better every day but I am still only at about 75%. If I wouldn't have had the the dry socket after the surgery I think I would be a bit better, I do have to go back to the oral surgeon this afternoon. MICKEY

VERY COLD MORNING

It is a very cold 17 degrees here in Colonial Heights this morning and if my teeth weren't sore enough the cold air isn't helping the situation none either. Well I did go back to the oral surgeon yesterday and I did have a dry socket and he packed the the socket with some type of medication which took the extreme pain away and I have to go back and see him tomorrow. Also my sinuses have flared up this morning as well. The Colonial Heights boys basketball team lost to Dinwiddie last night while the Colonial Heights girls team beat Dinwiddie. Tonight in college basketball action the VCU Rams will be at home against Georgia State. In college football action last night Virginia Tech lost to Michigan in OT 23-20, Tech had there chances to Michigan away in 1st half but had to settle for to many FG's instead on TD's which cost them. By the way it is going to be in the 60's by Friday. MICKEY

The Virginia Cavaliers basketball team picked up a big win on the road at LSU last night beating the Tigers 57-52 and with the win have won 11 straight games and are now 13-1 on the season. The VCU Rams picked up another CAA win last night beating Hofstra 80-63 last night in New York. The Virginia Tech football team will face Michigan tonight in the Sugar Bowl, if Tech wants to win tonight they are going to have to contain Michigan's QB. The Mickey's College Football Pick-Em Contest is winding down, Murph still leads The Chief by 2 games heading into the final bowl games. It is going to be bit cold today so you better keep your hat on, the cold temps are not going to last long though. I am going to try to get back to see my oral surgeon today, I think I may have what the call a dry socket which I can tell you doesn't feel very pleasant. PACKERS WIN A WILD ONE, COLD WEATHER ON THE WAY

The Green Packers rested several of there stars yesterday but that didn't stop the Packers from beating the Lions 45-41 behind Matt Flynn's 6 TD passes, that's right Matt Flynn not Aaron Rogers. The 6 TD's by Flynn set a Packers franchise record. With the win the Packers finish the season with a 15-1 record and will receive a bye in the 1st round round of the NFL playoffs. Meanwhile the Redskins woes continued in Philadelphia yesterday as the Eagles beat the Redskins 34-10, plain and simple the Skins had a terrible year. The Virginia basketball team has a tough game on the road tonight at LSU, the Cavs will need to pay better than they have been playing the last few games to come away with a big road win. The VCU Rams will be on the Hofstra in CAA match-up. Well I want to wish all you fellow bloggers a very Happy New Year and I hope everybody has a good 2012. I have to say for the 1st time in about 5 years I was up to see the new year come in last night. The Virginia football team lost last night to Auburn in the Chic-fil A Bowl 43-24, Auburn just had to many good athletes for Virginia and in overwhelmed the Cavaliers. The Cavs offense played ok but the special team were just flat out terrible last night and the defense at times just looked bad. I have to say for a team that wasn't to do to much this Virginia team did much better than most people predicted but did get the weaknesses exposed by several teams at the end of the season. If I was going to give this team a letter grade this year I would give them a B-. The Green Bay Packers will finish out the regular season today at home against the Detroit Lions, the Packers are going to be resting several players who have been banged up a bit the last few weeks and it's a possibility that Aaron Rogers will be deactivated as well since the Packers already have locked up home filed advantage in the NFC and they have nothing to gain. The Washington Redskins will be on the road at Philadelphia today in a game that doesn't mean anything to either team, the only the players will be playing for is there jobs next year. I finally had another decent night of sleep for the 1st time since my wisdom teeth cam out Thursday morning. MICKEY

The Virginia Cavaliers football team has a very tough game tonight against the Auburn Tigers in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. If the Cavaliers want to have a shot to win this game they are going to have to play much better than they played against Virginia Tech there final game of the season. I just don't know if the Cavs defense will be able to stop Auburn's offense, I think it will be a fairly high scoring game. The Virginia basketball team got bu Towson lat night 57-50, the Cavs struggled with the win less Tigers most of the game, with the win the Cavs improve to 12-1 but I really don't know how good they really are with the teams that they have been playing. You talk about a year flying by, 2011 just did it. My mouth is a bit sorer this morning than it was yesterday and they maybe because I ate a few more things yesterday, the bottom of mouth is still very swollen where my wisdom teeth use to be. Also I haven't slept well at all the last 2 nights, I might have to sleep in the chair tonight. It was another busy day on the blog yesterday with 54 visitors from 8 different countries. I AM A BIT SORE THIS MORNING, VCU WINS

Well I have to say a I am a bit sore this morning from have my wisdom teeth taking out yesterday morning. The bleeding has stopped for the most part and swelling was moderated yesterday and this morning as well as I continue to ice down the area. While doing the surgery the oral surgeon told dad that one my nerves was exposed on the right side my mouth so he gave me a steroid to try correct that problem, that's right I am on the juice. So far it hasn't been as been as I thought it was going to be but the swelling they say could be worst on 2nd and 3rd day, also today I have to rinse my mouth out with salt water several times during the day. He did tell me I could do some walking today and some jogging on Saturday before returning running on Sunday. The VCU Rams battled by from 12 points down with 12 minutes left in the game to beat Akron in OT 76-75, with the win the Rams have now won 7 straight game and re now 10-3 on the season and will face Hostfra on the road Monday night. I have to say yesterday was a very busy day on the blog for some reason, there were 50 visitors from 5 different countries. Keith, Andrew & Maureen are heading down to Atlanta today to watch the Virginia Cavaliers fave the Auburn Tigers tomorrow in the Georgia Dome. Well I have to put some more ice on my face. MICKEY

WISDOM TEETH COMING OUT TODAY, VCU ON THE ROAD

Well today is the day that I will be heading to my oral surgeon to have my wisdom teeth removed, they are going to take them out at 8am this morning. Hopefully things will go pretty smooth and I will be back up and getting around normal in a few days. All I know is that I am hungry this morning but I cant drink or eat anything and after the removal I am not going to be able to eat any solid food for at least a day and possibly longer. The VCU Rams basketball team will be back in action on the road tonight at Akron, the Zips are are 7-5 and are 6-0 at home so it should be a good test for the young Rams. Well he power was knocked out in Colonial Heights yesterday afternoon for a few hours when some high winds came through the city, by the time I got home from work the power was back on. The Green Bay Packers clinched the home filed advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs with last night 35-21 win over the Chicago Bears. The Packers scored on there 1st possession of the game and then it looked like they had gone back to Kansas City before they straightened things out. Aaron Rogers did have another good game throwing 5 touchdown passes, the Packers will will face the Detroit Lions in there regular season finale at home next Sunday. Well I did have a very good Christmas but I still think I ate way to much the last 3 days, however with my wisdom teeth coming out on Thursday I probably should eat a few extra meals because I wont be able to eat any solid foods for a few days. The VCU Rams pulled away from UNCG last night in the 2nd half to come away with a 80-68 win on the road in Greensboro. I watched part of the game on ESPN3 and it looked like the Rams just didn't get focused until they were in the 2nd half. The Colonial Heights boys basketball team picked up another win on Wednesday night beating King William 72-43. Well I am off today from work for Christmas, it appears most everybody else is going to be off on Monday except all those government workers who will be off both days. The VCU Rams picked up another win last night at the Seigel Center knocking off the Blazers of UAB 68-49, the Rams Started to pull towards the end of the 1st half but pretty much put it out reach early in the 2nd half. The Rams are now 8-3 and will travel to UNC Greensboro tomorrow night. The Virginia Cavaliers will be on the road Seattle tonight looking for there 8th straight win. The Colonial Heights basketball team lost on the road in Lee-Davis Tournament to Trinity 77-50, the Colonial will face King William tonight. PACKERS LOSE, VIRGINIA WINS AGAIN

The Green Bay Packers undefeated season came to an end yesterday afternoon against the Kansas City Chiefs as the Chiefs beat the Packers 19-14 and believe me it could have been allot worst than that. The Packers offense looked anemic yesterday while the defense did give up allot of yards they kept Kansas City out of the end-zone until late in the game but with offensive woes it just wasn't enough. The Packers need to just forget about this game and move on. Meanwhile the Washington Redskins looked like a great team yesterday against the New York Giants, the Skins just dominated this game coming away with a 23-10 win. In college basketball action yesterday the Virginia Cavaliers improved to 9-1 with at 67-54 win over Oregon on the road, the Cavs will stay on the west coast and play Seattle on Wednesday. Well I have to go to the dentist for my 6 month checkup unless he calls and cancels my appointment again today. MICKEY

The college football bowl season starts today with 3 games and will continue for next few weeks leading up to the championship game between Alabama and LSU. Last night high school basketball action Colonial Heights was able to stay with Hopewell for 3 quarters before the Bluedevils put the game away in the 4th quarter and came away with a 84-54 win over the Colonials. The VCU Rams return to the hardwood tonight at home against UNC Wilmington, this will be the first game in the CAA this year for both teams. Well down at Wal-Mart this morning they were getting ready for all those last minute shoppers, they all kinds of things in isles all over the store for all of you last minute shoppers and I am sure you don't want to be anywhere close to the mall this weekend. Well I have to say that it is my favorite day of the week again and next Friday we will be off for Christmas so I have a short work week. My right bottom wisdom tooth has been flaring up the last couple of days which is why I am going to have them taken out the week after Christmas. I was a very mid day here in CH yesterday with temps almost making it to 70, it is going to be a little cooler today and there will be a chance of rain as well. Well some people waited to the deadline last night but I do have all the picks for this years bowl games with the exception of a few games a couple of people missed. I have sent them an e-mail to try find out who they wanted but if they do no reply they will simply miss those games. Well I was suppose to go to the dentist yesterday however they called me yesterday morning and said the dentist had something come up and would not be there so now I will be going Monday afternoon. I am almost to the point where I am going to replace my dentist, in the last 3 years I have had to move my appointment numerous times and a few of those times I mad it to the office before finding out something had come up. I think 1 problem they have at hiss office is the rate of turnover at the office, you hardly ever see the same person when you go up there. The Green Bay Packers are now 13-0 after crushing the Oakland Raiders 46-16 yesterday at Lambeau Field. The Packers scored early and often against the Raiders building a 31-0 lead at the half and never looked back, next week the Packers will travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. The Redskins lost another close game yesterday falling to the Patriots 34-27, the Skins had there chances but this team seems to a bit snake bit. VCU WINS, COLONIALS PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT

The VCU Rams beat there cross town rivals the Richmond Spiders last night 73-51 at the Siegel Center. The Spiders made a run in the 2nd half cutting the lead to around 5 points before the Rams turned the heat up midway through the 2nd half and pulled for the win. The Rams are now 6-3 and will face UNC Wilmington next on December 17. The Colonial Heights Colonial put up a good fight last night against Petersburg last night before falling to the Wave 77-64. The Colonials lead for a large portion of the 1st half before Petersburg tied it up at 34-34 at the half and won it in the 2nd half. I thought the Colonials played very well but just came up short, the CH JV team lost 56-53 in OT to the Wave. Well I am going to try to finish up my Christmas present wrapping today, my back is a bit sore from wrapping presents on Thursday night. MICKEY

Well after visiting the oral surgeon yesterday it was decided that my wisdom teeth need come out, I am going to get them taken out on December 29 at 8am. I have 2 that compacted but I will get all 4 of them taken out at the same time. The Colonial Heights basketball team lost on the road at Varina last night 89-50, both the girls & boys teams will be in action tonight against Thomas Dale. The annual Colonial Heights Christmas Parade will be tonight on the Boulevard starting at 7pm, hopefully the rain we will hold off. It is going to be unseasonably warm today with a high in the low 70's predicted today before a cold front comes through tomorrow and drops the temps quite a bit, along with cooler temps there is a pretty good chance of rain starting tonight through tomorrow night. PACKERS WIN AGAIN, VIRGINIA HEADING TO ATLANTA

The Green Bay Packers didn't play that well offensively or defensively but they played just well enough to win knocking off the New York Giants in the final seconds of the game 38-35. The Giants had tied the game at 35 with less than a minute to go but left the Packers just a little to much time, the Packers will return home next weekend to face the Raiders. The Redskins fell apart in the 4th quarter yesterday and loss to the New York Jets 34-19, the games was much closer than the final score indicated but a loss is a loss. In a bit of surprise last night the Virginia Cavaliers found out they would be playing in the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Auburn and Virginia Tech will be heading to the Sugar Bowl to face Michigan, both bowls came as surprise to both Virginia and Virginia Tech. The VCU Rams picked up another win on the hardwood yesterday afternoon beating George Washington 75-60, the Rams are now 5-3 and will face Richmond next. Well after going 14-2 this week Murph has a 1 game lead over Bobby and a 2 game lead over The Chief heading into the Bowl Season. In the ACC Championship game last night the Clemson Tigers football team finally played like they did earlier in the year beating Virginia Tech 38-10, it hard to believe that was the same team that N.C. State 37-17 two weeks ago. In college basketball action yesterday the Virginia Cavaliers beat Longwood 86-53 and are now 7-1, next up for the Cavs is a game Tuesday night with George Mason. VIRGINIA TECH TO MUCH FOR VIRGINIA

The Virginia Tech Hokies were simply the better than Virginia in every aspect of the game yesterday. On offense Virginia Tech kept the Virginia defense off balance all day despite Tech's poor field position, they just seemed to call the right play when they needed too. On defense the they just shut down the Virginia running game all together and the QB scrambling on every play and they were knocking him around pretty good as well. Virginia just simply just has to forget about this game and get ready for there bowl game, they exceeded the expectation of most everybody in the conference and just have to keep building the program to make it better. I am still tallying up everything from this weeks contest but I have a feeling we might have a new leader. The Washington Redskins will be on the road at Seattle this afternoon, I would like to think the Skins would have a shot to win this game but the way they have been playing lately I don't think they do and since the Packers played on Thanksgiving they are getting a few extra days rest. Well I won't be going to today's Virginia Tech at Virginia game but I will be watching it on TV and rooting for the Cavs. Today's game has much more importance than just the bragging right of the state which recently has been dominated by Tech but the winner of today's game will play in the ACC Championship game agains Clemson next week. The Cavs are going to have to play at very high level today if they want to have a shot to win and I don't think they can fall behind early and have a shot to win. n college basketball action last night the Virginia Cavaliers beat Wisconsin Green Bay 68-42, the Cavs are now 5-1 on the hardwood and will face Michigan next. In a high school football action at the beach Manteo's bid to win a state championship this year came to an end at the hands of Jones County 14-12. GREEN BAY WINS AGAIN

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Detroit Lions yesterday 27-15 to improve to 11-0 on the season. The Packers got off to a very slow start but got a late turnover in the 1st half to go up 7-0 at the half and then never looked back. I have to say the Lions were there own worst enemy for most of the game with all there penalties and turnovers. The Packers will have another tough game on the road next Sunday against the New York football Giants. Well by the sounds of things on the scanner there were allot of people down at Southpark last night for the specials retailers offering and I am sure that it will continue today, I might have to Wal-Mart at 5am instead of 5:30am tomorrow. I have to say having a day off during the work week makes the week go by much faster. My sinuses are really bothering me this morning, my eyes are itching and my right ear is very clogged up. MICKEY

Well its a cool rainy morning here in Colonial Heights and some more rain is on the way. PACKERS 10-0, STEWART WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

The Green Bay Packers didn't play all that well against Tampa yesterday but they did play well enough to pick up a 35-26 win over the Buccaneers and improve to 10-0. Some times I think the Packers get a bit complacent and just play to there level of there competition. I think the Packers will face there toughest contest of this year this week when they face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, they will have to play better than they did yesterday if they want to stay undefeated. The Washington Redskins lost another game yesterday falling in overtime to the Dallas Cowboys 27-24, the Skins played well enough to win but just cant seem to get back over the hump and pick up another win. Tony Stewart won the race and the championship yesterday to Homestead and Carl Edwards finished 2nd in both the race and championship. This was Tony Stewart's 3rd championship but his 1st as the cars owner. MICKEY

Well after 12 weeks of this years contest The Chief and Bobby are all tied up with a record of 165-89 while Murph is just 1 game back heading into week 13 and Julianne and Guy 3 games out. Scott leads the next group 7 games back while position 6-13 are only separated by 5 games. Keith had the best week going 19-5 followed by Buy and Rick who went 18-6, Scott and me had the worst week going 13-11. With Keith's win at least 16 people have won at least 1 week of the contest which is pretty good, Julianne and Guy continue to lead the tie-breaker with 3 wins. VIRGINIA STUNS FLORIDA STATE, GREEN BAY LOOKS FOR ANOTHER WIN

The Virginia Cavaliers upset the Florida State Seminoles last night 14-13 setting up a showdown with Virginia Tech next Saturday afternoon with winner advancing to the ACC Championship game against Clemson. The Cavs jumped out to a 7-0 lead only to have Florida State score the next 13 points before the Cavs rallied to take the lead in the final 2 minutes of the game 14-13 and hold on to the win. It appeared the Cavs won the game when the they stopped FSU on a 4th and 2 only to get called for 15 yard face-mask penalty, they it appeared they won it again when the clock ran out when the FSU receiver didn't get out of bounds but hold the phone because instant replay ruled the FSU receiver never caught the pass giving FSU one last shot a field goal. So with about 10 seconds left in the game FSU lines up for about a 47 yard filed goal only to have UVA jump off sides to make the FG attempt a 42 yard kick and the FSU kicker comes and misses wide left to give the Cavs a big win. Who would have ever thought the Cavs would 8-3 at this point of the season. The Green Bay Packers will be looking to improve to 10-0 with a win over Tampa today in Green Bay, the Redskins will be at home against the hated Dallas Cowboys. If there was game that the Skins that would make there fans feel better about there rough season it would be a win over the Cowboys. Carl Edwards captured the pole for today's season ending Nascar race at Homestead, Tony Stewart will start 15th. The Virginia Cavaliers football team will be on the road tonight at Florida State in a must win game if the want to have chance at winning the Coastal Division of the ACC next week at home against Virginia Tech. The Cavs are heavy underdogs against the Seminoles and with have to play there best game of the year if they want to have a shot at beating Florida State. There was a big upset last night in college football with Iowa State upsetting Oklahoma State 37-31 in 2OT, the BCS could really be mess now which is a good reason there should be a playoff. In high school football at the beach last night Manteo beat Plymouth 40-12 to advance to the next round of the playoffs. In college basketball action last night it was a tough night for both the Virginia Cavaliers and the VCU Rams, Virginia lost to TCU 57-55 and VCU lost to Georgia Tech 73-60. Hopefully the rain will stop in Homestead today so they will be able qualify for tomorrows Nascar's season finale shich will decide this years championship. This week Nascar will hold its final race of the season in Homestead, Florida with this years championship to be decided between Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart and I have to say that I will be rooting for Stewart. The Green Bay Packers crushed the Minnesota Vikings last night 45-7 in Green Bay and with the win the Packers are now 9-0 heading into next weeks game at home against Tampa. The Packers jumped on the Vikings early and often and the defense played very well in the route of the Vikings. Well it is going to feel like a Spring day here in Colonial Heights again today with highs in the upper 70's before a cold front comes through later tonight bringing some rain and cooler temps for tomorrow. Well it appears that the NBA may not have a season this year after the players rejected the latest deal by the owners and players union may vote to disband which could end the season. The NBA commissioner says that if no deal is in place by the weekend the season may be cancelled. As far as I am concerned they can cancel the season. MICKEY

VIRGINIA BEATS DUKE, REDSKINS AT MAIMI

The Virginia Cavaliers are now 7-3 after beating Duke yesterday 31-21 in Charlottesville. I don't think anybody would have predicted that the Cavs record would be as good as it is and they have 2 games left to improve on that in games that they will be heave underdogs. The Cavs really didn't play that well on offense or defense yesterday but were still able to come away with the W, however if they want any shot at beating Florida State next week they are going to have to play much better. Next weeks game with Florida State will be played on Saturday night at 7:30pm on ESPN2. In the NFL today if there was ever a chance for the Redskins to win another game this it will be today when the Skins travel down to Miami, but I would not bet anybody that they were going to win. The Packers don't play until tomorrow night at home against the Minnesota Vikings. Matt Kenseth capture the pole for today race at Phoenix edging out A.J. Almendinger for the top spot, Tony Stewart qualified 8th while Edwards will start 9th. Did you know there are only 41 days until Christmas and I am only about half way through all my shopping. VIRGINIA LOOKS TO MAKE IT 3 IN A ROW

The Virginia Cavaliers return home this afternoon looking for there 3rd straight win when the Duke Blue Devils come to town. The Cavs have had there problems against Duke the last few years so hopefully this team will get over the hump and take out the Blue Devils. I am not going to the game today but I will be watching it on TV. In high school football action the Colonials ended there season with a 48-0 loss at Thomas Dale, it has been a very tough season for the Colonials who have just been undermanned this season only dressing 20 players for some games. Down at the beach Manteo picked up another win in the playoffs beating Southside 47-6, next Manteo will place Plymouth. They will qualify today at Phoenix for tomorrow race and I am predicting an upset winner on Sunday, I am not going to tell you who it is because that would take the fun out of it. My picks haven't gone so well so far this week, there have been 2 games and I am already 0-2. MICKEY

COLONIALS SEASON COMES TO END TONIGHT

The Colonial Heights Colonials football season will come to an end tonight on the road at Thomas Dale ans because I am still fighting a cold I will not be making the trip. Also tonight is the final night of the regular season for all of the high school football teams in the area with playoffs starting next week. College basketball season kicks off tonight for most tams in the country with over 100 games scheduled for tonight. This weekend the Sprint Cup Series will be at the Phoenix International Raceway. In college football last night Virginia Tech moved one step close winning the Coastal Division again with a 37-26 win over Georgia Tech. I sure am gals today is Friday because it sure has been a long week. MICKEY

A COUPLE OF COOL DAYS

Well it looks like we are going to have a couple of cool days with temps in the 50's before returning into the 60's by Saturday and there is a slight chance of rain this afternoon as well. I am continuing to battle a cold/laryngitis, it fells like I am getting better but no where near 100%. There is a big game in the ACC tonight when Virginia Tech travels down to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech, it is a must win game for Georgia Tech if it want to win the Coastal Division of the ACC. I did get everybody's picks in on time this week but I did have to twist a few arms to get them all in. MICKEY

LARYNGITIS GETTING BETTER

Well after not being able to talk for the better part of the last 2 days my laryngitis does appear to be getting a bit better. It is not 100% by no means but it is better than it was for sure. My biggest problem now is that I am very sore from coughing so much over the last few days. Well it looks like it is going to make into the 70's the next 2 days before cooling off a little bit before the weekend, there is slight chance of rain on Thursday but besides that it should be a nice few days. PACKERS 8-0, STEWART WINS AT TEXAS

The Green Bay Packers improved to 8-0 on the season with 45-38 win over the San Diego Chargers yesterday. Even though the Packers scored 45 points it sure wasn't there best effort for sure, several times in the 2nd half the Packers had blown coverage where the Chargers had receivers running wide open in the end-zone. Next week the Packers return home to face the Vikings. The Washington Redskins offensive struggles continued yesterday as the Skins fell to the 49ers 19-11, the Skins defense played well but the offense was pretty inept all day besides scoring a late TD. Tony Stewart won yesterday Nascar race at Texas and Carl Edwards finished 2nd and still leads the point standings but his lead is down to 3 points over Stewart. Next week the Sprint Cup Series heads to Phoenix. My laryngitis is about the same, it is better in the morning but gets much worst as the day goes on. MICKEY

THE CHIEF HOLDS ON TO THE LEAD

The Chief holds on to a 1 game lead after 10 weeks of the contest but Murph has made a run to the top of the standings and is just 1 game back with Bobby just 2 games back. Julianne & Guy are just 3 games back and Scott is within striking distance as well just 4 games back. Guy & Biff had the best weeks going 17-7 while John had the toughest week going just 10-14, with Guy's weekly win he is now tied with Julianne in the tiebreaker standings with 3 wins. The top 12 players are within 8 games of the top but time is running out for those 8 games back. There are some very interesting games this week which shake up things again next week. VIRGINIA BEATS MARYLAND, GREEN BAY AT SAN DIEGO

The Virginia Cavaliers beat the Maryland Terrapins yesterday afternoon in College Park, Maryland 31-13. The Cavaliers threw for over 300 yards and for another 200 in the win, the Cavs defense also played very well in the win. The Cavs are now 6-3 and are now bowl eligible for the 1st time in 4 years, the Cavs will return home next Saturday to face the Duke Blue Devils. Well I went down to Greenville, North Carolina to watch the East Carolina Pirates for the 2nd time this season and I have to say things started off pretty well for the Pirates but went down hill from there. The Pirates scored on the 2nd play from scrimmage and that was the only lead the had in the game as the Golden Eagles took over the game and beat the Pirates 48-28. The Green Bay Packers will be looking to stay undefeated on the road San Diego, this game will be tough road test for the Packers. The Redskins will at home to face the 49ers's, it could be another long afternoon for the Redskins. Kyle Busch will not be racing at Texas in today's Sprint Cup race because he has been parked by Nascar after Friday nights incident in the truck series when he took out Ron Hornaday under caution, he also had to miss yesterdays Nationwide race as well. Maybe he will get the message after this incident but I doubt it. Well I hope everybody set there clocks back an hour last night before you went to bed because if not you are up an hour earlier than you need to be. Also I know have laryngitis so I will have to be quiet for the next few days. MICKEY

DIDN'T SLEEP VERY WELL AGAIN LAST NIGHT, VIRGINIA AT MARYLAND

Well I have to say that I didn't sleep very well again last night, for the 2nd night in a row I have been extremely congested and I just cant sleep very well. Also my throat is a bit sore and my temperature is a bit higher than it normally is as well but still below 100. Well me & dad went up to watch the Colonials play there final home game of the year against Meadowbrook and it was a very tough night for the Colonials falling 47-3, the Colonials will finish out the season at Thomas Dale next Friday night. The only highlight of the night occurred when AL was run over by an official while taking pictures, neither one saw each other. Down at the beach last night Manteo opened with a win in the 1A NC Playoffs beating Mattumiskeet 61-0. The Virginia Cavaliers football team looks to pick another win today on the road at Maryland, I think the Cavs should just run it down the Terrapins throat. Despite being under the weather I am going to head down to East Carolina to watch the Pirates face the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi, the Pirates will need to play a pretty much perfect game today to have a shot at the win. Greg Biffle captured the pole for this weeks Sprint Cup race at Texas edging his teamate David Ragan for the top spot. Since I didn't sleep very well I went down to Wal-Mart at about 5:15am. MICKEY

WHY CANT THEY GET MY SALAD TO ME ON TIME

I cannot understand why Cracker Barrel cannot get my salad to me on time. The last three times that I have been out there my salad seems to arrive with my meal and each time I have told the waitress that I wanted by salad early but apparently that doesn't matter. This has not been a problem in the past but lately it sure has been one and they can't get the problem straight I am not going to continue to go there. I might as well not went to bed last night because I don't think I slept for more than hour at a time, I just tossed and turned all night long. The Colonial Heights Colonials football team will play its final home game of the season tonight against Meadowbrook and I don't think that they are going to be in a good mood at all since Thomas Dale pretty much knocked them out of the playoffs last week. Well I did get all the picks in for this weeks contest just under the deadline last night, I did have to remind a few people during the day yesterday bu I got them all in. It looks like there are 3 or 4 games where everybody picked the same team so it doesn't look like there is going to be as much movement in the standings this week as there was last week. There is 1 game in the contest and that is the Tulsa at Central Florida game. My sinuses are still bothering me this morning but they don't seem to be quite as bad this morning, yesterday I had sinus headache most of the day. Well I am off to work. MICKEY

For some reason this week has been the slowest week of the year for people getting there picks in for Mickey College Football Pick-Em Contest. I still need 10 peoples picks for this weeks games and usually I only need about 6 or 7 peoples and I have already received the picks of a couple peoples picks who are always late getting them in. It sure makes it easier to run the contest when people can get there picks in a little quicker. Don't forget in a few more days you will gain an hour of sleep. MICKEY

Well I have to say that I am glad that I wasn't out Trick-Or-Treating last night, it seemed the rain started picking up as soon as the little ones hit the streets. I can remember a couple of years when I did go out when I was younger when it rained or was extremely cold which made is miserable out there. Well today is November 1 and I am well behind in my Christmas shopping this year, for some reason I just lagging behind. Well after a [promising start to the season the Washington Redskins may be the worst team in the NFL right now, they simply aren't doing anything right offensively or defensively. Tony Stewart won yesterdays Nascar wreckfest at Martinsville holding off Jimmie Johnson for the win and with the win Stewart moves into 2nd place in the point standings just 8 points behind Carl Edwards. It appears Brian Vickers wan in about half of the cautions yesterday have big run ins with Jamie McMaurray & Matt Kenseth with Kenseth run in with Vickers ending his chance for the championship this year. My allergies are continuing to give me problems especially in the mornings. MICKEY

Well after 9 weeks of the contest The Chief is back in the lead after Julianne and Chiz had a bit of trouble this week. The Chief, Bobby, Murph, Scott & Lee all went 18-7 this week while Phillips had the toughest week going 12-13. The Chief has a 3 game lead on over Julianne, Chiz, Bobby and Murph with Dusty and Scott just 4 games back. The top 9 players are within 7 games of 1st place. Qualifying for today's Sprint Cup race at Martinsville was rained out yesterday so they will line up by the point standings for today, Carl Edwards will start form the pole with Matt Kenseth joining him on the front row. In the NFL today the Washington Redskins will be on the road at Buffalo, the Bills are 4-2 so I think it is very winnable game for the Skins but they are going have to play better than they did last week. The East Carolina Pirates beat Tulane 34-13 setting up a big game at East Carolina against Southern Miss, both teams are 3-1 in the East Division of CUSA. Well it looks like we will have a new leader in the Mickey College Football Pick-Em Contest, I will have the updated standings out a little later this morning. CARDINALS WIN THE WORLD SERIES

The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers last night 6-2 in game 7 last night to win the World Series. The Cardinals were the team that would just never go away, they just found away to win and get the job done. It was another tough night on the football filed for the Colonials falling to Prince George 55-14, down at the beach Manteo beat Camden 69-7 and Currituck beat First Flight 60-0. The East Carolina Prates will face the Tulane Green Wave today trying to keep there hopes of playing in CUSA's championship game again this year, a win today would set up a show down with Southern Miss next week. They are suppose to qualify today at Martinsville for this weeks Sprint Cup race but it appears that they might have to lineup on points because of some very inclement weather. Well it is a very cold rainy day here in Colonial Heights, if feels like winter has arrived. MICKEY
