KINGS TAKE GAME 1

The L.A. Kings won game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals last night 2-1 over the New Jersey Devils in OT.  The Kings jumped out to 1-0 lead before the Devils tied up at 1-1 sending the game to OT where the Kings won it to take a 1-0 series lead.  In high school baseball action yesterday both teams from the Central District lost in the regionals, Cosby beat Dinwiddie 2-0 while Matoaca lost to James River 9-5.  Down at the beach yesterday they got about 7 inches of rain from the remnants of Beryl which flooded under our house at the b each and made several roads at the beach impassible.  Well it looks like I am going to have a very busy day at work since tomorrow is the first day of the month so I am going to head to work.  MICKEY

STANLEY CUP FINALS BEGAN TONIGHT

Well I will be watching game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals even though my favorite team will not be playing in it. I have to say that the New Jersey Devils are the favorites to win the cup but don't sell the Kings short because they have already beat the #1,2 and 3 seeds in the Western Conference.  Well we are getting some rain here in Colonial Heights but it doesn't look like it is going to be an all day mostly just into the early afternoon.  My sinuses where really bothering me last night but cleared up a bit just before I went to but I pretty congested agin this morning.  I sure am glad that is Wednesday but it still feels like it is Tuesday.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA TO FACE ARMY

The Virginia baseball team will face Army in there first game of this NCAA baseball tournament in Charlottesville on Friday.  The other two teams in the Chrlottesville Regional are Oklahoma and Appy State, there are 7 teams from ACC in this years tournament.  In high school baseball action yesterday both teams from the Central District won there games in the regionals, Dinwiddie beat Atlee 4-0 & Matoaca beat Hanover 5-3.  My sinuses are still bothering me but I don't appear to be sneezing nearly as much, my nose is still running quite a bit though.  It looks like we are going to get some rain tonight and tomorrow from the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl.  I am glad today is Tuesday but I have to say it still feels like Monday.  MICKEY

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

First off I want to wish everybody a HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY and everybody should take time to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for country and also those who have been injured serving our country.  The Virginia baseball team has been selected as one of the 16 teams to host a baseball regional next weekend, the entire 64 team field will be announced this afternoon.  Well I have to say yesterdays Indianapolis 500 was much more exciting than this years Coca Cola 600 where Dario Franchitti captured his 3rd 500.  Last night the Coca Cola 600 in my opinion was just like most of the other Nascar races have been so far this year pretty boring.  I don't know what causing most of the races to be so ho hum but they had better do something quick to change or they going to continue to lose fans.  Kasey Kahne won last nights which didn't have a whole lot of excitement.  Well I will be heading back to the Heights this afternoon getting ready to head back to back to work tomorrow.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA BEATS FLORIDA STATE, BIG RACING DAY

The Virginia baseball team beat Florida State yesterday afternoon 7-0 in there final game of the ACC baseball tournament.  The Cavs went 2-1 in the tournament only losing to Georgia Tech who was the only team to go 3-0 in pool play and will face Miami in today championship game.  Virginia will await the NCAA baseball committee on when and where and who the will play next, I think they will be hosting regional but we will have to wait and see who is in it.  Well today is the biggest day of the year for racing in the United States with Indianapolis 500 and the Coca Cola 600.  Aric Almirola was start on the pole for tonight's Coca Cola 600 with his teamate Marcos Ambrose joining him on the front row.  Brad Keselowski won yesterdays Natiowide race at Charlotte.  We at supper at the Black pelican last night and i have to say it was mighty good, I got the prime rib.  It is drizzling a little bit this morning at the beach but it doesn't look like it is going to rain that much.  Well i am going to get ready to go for a run.  MICKEY

NOT A GOOD DAY FOR MY TEAMS

Well it was not a good day for the New York Rangers or the Virginia Cavaliers.  The New York Rangers lost 3-2 in OT to the New Jersey Devils ending there season.  With the win the New Jersey Devils will play the Los Angeles Kings for the Stanley Cup and I sure the Devils will be favored but the Kings have already beat the #1,2, and 3 seeds in the Western Conference.  The Virginia baseball team lost to Georgia Tech yesterday 17-5, the Cavs actually lead this game 3-0 before Georgia Tech came back to beat them.  The Cavs have one more game in pool play against Florida State this afternoon.  Well I am at the beach for the Memorial DAy holiday weekend.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA WINS ITS OPENER, RANGERS MUST WIN TONIGHT

The Virginia baseball team opened up the ACC baseball tournament yesterday in Greensboro with a 3-2 win over the Clemson Tigers.  The Cavs will face Georgia Tech this morning at 11am in a game if they win will go a long way in determining if they are going to play in Sundays championship game.  The New York Rangers face a must win situation tonight on the road at New Jersey, the Devils lead the series 3-2.  If the Rangers want to continue playing this year they have got to straighten out the defensive woes they have had the last few games.  Well I sure am glad that it Friday, I will be heading down to the beach for the weekend after work today.  My head is extremely congested this morning, my eyes are itching at bit, nose running and a bit of a sore throat.  MICKEY

RANGERS LOSE, VIRGINIA BACK IN ACTION THIS MORNING

The New York Rangers fell behind 3-0 last night to the Devils only to rally and tied the game at 3-3 before falling 5-3 last night at Madison Square Garden.  The Rangers have just not played well the last 2 games and if they don't straighten things out in game 6 this series is over.  The Rangers just seemed to have lost there focus.  The Virginia baseball team will open up ACC tournament play this morning against Clemson, the #1 seeded team Florida State lost yesterday to Georgia Tech 5-4.  Well I have to say the weekend cant get here soon enough, I am ready for a long weekend.  MICKEY

COLONIALS SEASON COMES TO AN END, RANGERS BACK IN ACTION

Well the 2012 baseball season came to an end last night with 6-0 loss to Dinwiddie in the Central District baseball tournament.  The Colonials fell behind early and the offense just never woke up in the loss but overall it was a pretty good season for the Colonials ending the year with a 13-8 record.  Dinwiddie will meet Matoaca in the finals, Matoaca beat Prince George last 7-3.  The ACC baseball tournament starts today in Greensboro however the Virginia baseball team doesn't play until tomorrow.  The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils will play game 5 of there best of 7 series tonight at Madison Square Garden, the series is tied at 2-2.  Last night the L.A. Kings won the Western Conference Finals with 4-3 win in OT and with the win they win the series 4-1 and await the Rangers or Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals.  Have a good day.  MICKEY

COLONIALS BACK IN ACTION TONIGHT, RANGERS LOSE

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team will be back in action tonight a 5pm against Dinwiddie in the Central District baseball tournament at Matoaca weather permitting.  I am hoping that the rain will stay away but it looks like it will be similar to yesterday where there where allot of popup showers, in the other fame in the tournament it will be Matoaca vs Prince George.  Last night in the Eastern Conference Finals the New Jersey Devils dominated the Rangers and came away with 4-1 win to up the series at 2-2.  The Rangers may have played there worst game of the playoffs last night.  In the Western Conference Finals tonight the Kings will be in Phoenix trying to eliminate the Coyotes again, the Kings lead the series 3-1.  My sinuses have been really bothering me since last week and now ears are a bit clogged up.  MICKEY

RANGERS LOOK TO EXTEND SERIES LEAD

The New York Rangers will be looking to extend its Eastern Conference Finals lead tonight when the play game of the series in New Jersey.  The Rangers lead the series 2-1 and a win tonight could go a long in them winning the series.  In the Western Conference Finals yesterday the Coyotes stayed alive with a 2-0 win over the Kings but still trail in the series 3-1.  The Virginia baseball team will play Clemson Thursday at 11am in there 1st game of the ACC baseball tournament.  Don't forget the Colonials baseball team will be in action in the Central District baseball tournament tomorrow at 5pm against Dinwiddie weather permitting, there is a pretty good chance of t-storms each of the next few days.  Ricky Stenhouse won yesterdays Nationwide race at the Iowa Speedway.  Well I am off to work.  MICKEY

RANGERS WIN GAME 3, 1ST TROPICAL SYSTEM OF THE YEAR

The New York Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils 3-0 yesterday afternoon to take a 2-1 series lead.  The game was tied 0-0 before the Rangers scored 2 quick goals in the 3rd and added a empty net goal to close the game out.  This afternoon the L.A. Kings will try to finish off Phoenix and advance to Stanley Cup Finals, the Kings lead the series 3-0.  The Virginia baseball team lost in the bottom of the 9th inning yesterday at Maryland 6-5, the Cavs will now get ready for next weeks ACC tournament.  Speaking of tournaments the Colonial Heights baseball team will face Dinwiddie Tuesday at 5pm at Matoaca High School.  Jimmie Johnson won last nights Nascar All-Star race and it wasn't the finish Nascar was hoping for, Johnson dominated the final 10 lap segment to pick up win.  We will have our 1st tropical system of the year and it's off the South Carolina coast right now and it's name is Tropical Storm Alberto but it looks like it is going to stay out in the Atlantic.  My head has been pretty much stopped up all week and also got stung by a wasp as well, I am hoping next week will be better.  MICKEY

Weight gain Diet soda drinking correlates with both increased waist circumference and a heightened body mass index. What's up? One possible explanation is that diet soda disrupts our ability to feel full. Scientists have found that, at least in rats, having something artificially sweetened before a meal leads to greater food consumption at chow time. In general, sweet tasting foods and drinks appear to increase our appetite.

VIRGINIA RALLIES FOR A WIN, GAME 3 TODAY

The Virginia baseball team rallied for a 10-3 win over Maryland last night.  The Cavs entered the top of the 9th inning trailing 3-2 before scoring 8 runs in the top 9th and coming away with a 10-3 win over the Terps.  The Cavs will go for the sweep this afternoon in there final regular season game of the year.  The Cavs will be the #4 seed in next weeks ACC baseball tournament.  The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils will play game 3 of there best of 7 series this afternoon in New Jersey, the Rangers will need to play better today if they want come away with a win.  Kyle Busch captured the pole for tonight's All-Star race in Charlotte with Ryan Newman joining him on the front row.  I think next weekend I may head down to the OBX for the Memorial Day weekend.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA WINS, KINGS 1 WIN AWAY

The Virginia baseball team held on for a 7-6 win last night at Maryland.  The Cavs trailed for a good bit in this game before taking the lead only to have Maryland come back and tie the game up in the 7th before the Cavs got a few late runs and withstood a late Maryland win to get the win.  In the NHL Playoffs last night L.A. beat Phoenix 2-1 to take 3-0 series lead in the Western Conference Finals.  The Rangers vs Devils will play game 3 tomorrow in New Jersey.  The week the Nascar Sprint Cup Series will race its All Star race which is a non points event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  I sure am glad that is Friday.  MICKEY

COLONIALS CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team clinched a playoff spot yesterday with it's 4-2 win over Meadowbrook.  With the win the Colonials finish the regular season with a 13-7 record overall and 8-6 record in the Central District.  The Colonials will face the #1 team in the Central District Dinwiddie next Tuesday.  The Virginia vs VCU was cancelled yesterday because of poor field conditions so the Cavs will finish the regular season on the road at Maryland.  In the Western Conference Finals last night L.A. beat Phoenix 4-0 to take a 2-0 series lead , tonight the Rangers and Devils will play game 2 of there series.  Well I went back to my Urologist yesterday and he said everything looked ok, he said the said the stones that I have didn't appear to grow any and that I don't have to go back unless I think I am having a problem.  MICKEY

RANGERS TAKE GAME 1, COLONIALS HOME TONINGHT

The New York Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils 3-0 last night in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. I thought the Rangers played another very good game defensively and got tremendous goal-tending again in coming away with the win.  Tonight the Los Angeles and Phoenix will play game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.  The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team is scheduled to play it's final game of the regular season tonight against Meadowbrook at 6pm weather permitting.  It will be Senior Night so I am hoping that the rain will stay away.  Well I am heading back to Urologist this morning for my yearly check up to see how much that my kidney stones have grown since last year, I am hoping that they haven't gown much at all.  MICKEY

RANGERS VS DEVILS GAME 1, VIRGINIA FALLS TO GEORGIA TECH

The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils will play game 1 on of there Eastern Conference Finals tonight at Madison Square Garden, I think it will be another very close series with the beast goaltender stealing the series.  In the Western Conference Finals last night the L.A. Kings beat Phoenix 4-2 to take a 1-0 series lead.  The Virginia baseball team lost a tough won yesterday falling to Georgia Tech 5-4 in 10 innings, the Cavs were leading 4-2 entering the top of the 9th.  The Cavs have a midweek game at home against VCU before heading up to Maryland to finish out the regular season.  Well it looks like it is going to rain today & tomorrow before drying out on Wednesday.  MICKEY

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY, RANGERS BEAT THE CAPS

Well first off I want to wish all the Mother's who come by to visit Mickey's Place a very Happy Mother's Day.  The New York Rangers will be moving on to Eastern Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs where they will face the New Jersey Devils with series starting tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden.  Last night the Rangers beat the Caps 2-1 in another very close game in this series, the Rangers appeared to be step quicker than the Caps though and came away with the win.   I thought the Rangers played there best game of the series defensively last night limiting the number of quality chances the Caps had offensively.  The Western Conference Finals began tonight in Phoenix with Coyotes facing the L.A. Kings.  In college baseball action yesterday the Virginia Cavaliers won there 10th straight game beating Georgia Tech 4-2, the Cavs will go for there 11th straight win this afternoon against the Yellow Jackets.  Jimmie Johnson won last nights Sprint Cup race at Darlington giving Rick Hendrick his 200th career win the Sprint Cup Series and for a Darlington race for the most part things were pretty tame.  The only brush up was between a crew member of Ryan Newman's team went after some members of Kurt Busch's crew after he though Busch caused an incident that caused Newman's car to be heavily damaged.  Don't forget the Colonials baseball team will play it's final game of the regular season at home Tuesday night against Meadowbrook.  MICKEY

COLONIALS WIN 4-0, RANGERS VS CAPS GAME 7 TONIGHT

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team picked up a big 4-0 win over Prince George last night at Shepherd Stadium.  With the win the Colonials improve to 12-7 on the season and 7-6 in the Central District with 1 regular season game left on Tuesday at home against Meadowbrook.  The Virginia baseball team continued to play good baseball last night beating Georgia Tech 6-5, they will play game 2 of the series this afternoon at 1pm.  The New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals will play game 7 tonight with the winner moving on to the Eastern Conference Finals against the well New Devils and I have to say it wouldn't surprise if tonight's game goes to OT, every game in this series has been a close one.  Joey Logano won last nights Nationwide race at Darlington after he wrecked Elliott Sadler, Denny Hamlin finished 2nd last night.  Greg Biffle won the pole for tonight's Sprint Cup race with Jimmie Johnson joining him on the front row and I think there could be some fireworks tonight at Darlington.  MICKEY

The Colonial Heights Colonials and Prince George Royals were washed out last night and will try to play again tonight at Shepherd Stadium.  The field was deemed unplayable by the Rec Dept. despite reports that it could have been fixed so we will try again tonight.  The Virginia baseball team opens up a big 3 game series with Georgia Tech tonight at home, the Cavs appear to playing there best baseball of the season right now.  The Nascar Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series will be at Darlington this weekend, both races will be under the lights from the lady in black.  It's my favorite day of the week it's Friday.  MICKEY

CAPS FORCE A GAME 7, COLONIALS AT HOME TONIGHT?

The Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers last night 2-1 to force a game 7 on Saturday night in New York.  The Caps came out on a mission and scored a quick power play goal and the scored another goal in the 2nd period to lead 2-0 before the Rangers finally scored in the final minute of the game.  The Caps definitely outplayed the Rangers last night.  Well the Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team is suppose to play Prince George tonight at home but after all the rain we had yesterday I just don't think tonight's game will be played as scheduled but I hope it does.  The Virginia baseball team returned to the field last night from finals and beat High Point 12-3, the Cavs will also be at home this weekend against Georgia Tech with the series starting tomorrow night.  Well I am off to work.  MICKEY

COLONIALS FALL AT DINWIDDIE, RANGERS LOOK TO END SERIES

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team lost on the road at Dinwiddie last night 9-2.  It just wasn't one of the best games we played all year and against a good team we have to play better than we did last night.  The Colonials will return home tomorrow night against Prince George.  In the Stanley Cup Playoffs last night New Jersey finished off the New Jersey Devil with a 3-1 win and winning the series 4-1.  Tonight the New York Rangers will be in Washington looking to knock off the Capitals and end the series.  Despite being tired when I went to bed last night I didn't sleep very well at all.  MICKEY

RANGERS WIN IN OT, COLONIALS AT DINWIDDIE

I have to say things weren't looking very good for the New York Rangers with 20 seconds left in the game trailing 2-1 but then the Caps were hit with a double minor penalty for high sticking which changed the outcome of the game.  The Rangers scored with 7 seconds left in the game one it with a goal 1:35 into OT 3-2 and both goals were power play goals, with the win the Rangers now lead the series 3-2 with game 6 set for Washington tomorrow night.  The Western Conference Finals are now set with Phoenix beating Nashville last night and winning there series 4-1, Phoenix will face Los Angeles in the Western Conference Finals.  The New Jersey Devils will be looking to finish of the Flyers tonight in Philly, the Devils lead the series 3-1.  The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team will be on the road at Dinwiddie tonight at 6pm.  I have to say yesterday was a pretty miserable day, the internet was down most of the day and I spent most of the night trying to get it back, I had to go all the way to Lake Gaston at work which was ok but by back is very sore this morning from riding in the truck for about 4 hours.  Well so far everything is good with the internet since we fixed it last night, I am a very miserable person when I have no internet.  MICKEY

RANGERS LOSE TO THE CAPS 3-2, JEFF GORDON WINS THE POLE

The Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers yesterday afternoon 3-2 to even up the best of 7 series at 2-2 heading back to New York for game 5 tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden.  If it wasn't for Henrik Lundqvist the score would have been much worst, the Rangers have got to fin away to wake up the offense and they had better do it soon.  There are 2 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs today, in the Western Conference St. Louis faces a most win situation at Los Angeles it's either win or go home because the Blues are down 3-0 in the series.  In the other Eastern Conference series Philadelphia will at New Jersey, the Devils lead this series 2-1.  Jeff Gordon captured the pole for today's race at Talladega edging out A.J. Allmendinger for the top spot, the Dinger seems to be qualifying at the front every week.  Joey Logano won yesterdays Nationwide race edging Kyle Busch for the win.  I have to say I have not slept very well the last 2 nights because of my allergies have really been bothering me.  Also today is Joy Woodfin's birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOY.  MICKEY

RANGERS AND CAPITALS BACK IN ACTION TODAY

The New York Rangers and Washington Capitals will play game 3 of there Eastern Conference Semi-finals series this afternoon in Washington with the Rangers leading the series 2-1.  I am hoping that the Rangers offense will start putting the puck in the back of the net at better rate than they have, the defense has been playing very well.  Last night Phoenix beat Nashville 1-0 to take a 3-1 series lead.  The will qualify this afternoon for tomorrows Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway and Nationwide series will run there this afternoon and they will start by the series point standings because of rain yesterday.  I went down to Wal-Mart this morning to pick up a few things and I have to say there sure weren't many people in the store but then again it was 5:30 in the morning, next weekend it will be busy with people coming in to pick up some Mother's Day gifts.  My allergies have really been bothering the last few days, there seem to be allot of things that seem to be blooming with all the warm temps we have been having.  MICKEY

RANGERS WIN GAME 3 IN 3 OT, COLONIALS AT HOME TONIGHT

The New York Rangers beat the Washington Capitals last night 2-1 in the 3rd OT to take a 2-1 series lead.  The Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead only to have the Caps tie it up and send it to OT, in OT both teams had several chances to win it but the Rangers pulled it out.  Also last night Nashville beat Phoenix but Phoenix still leads the series 2-1.  The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team will be back at home tonight against Hopewell, game time is set for 6pm.  The Virginia baseball team is off until next week for exams, I thought they wee playing High Point this week but it is next week.  It is going to be in the upper 80's again today here in the Heights, it will be in the 70's and 80's the next 4 or 5 days.  MICKEY
