RANGERS WIN GAME 1, VIRGINIA WINS

The New York Rangers beat the Washington Capitals yesterday afternoon 3-1 to take a 1-0 series lead in Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.  The game was tied at 1-1 entering the 3rd period before the Rangers scored 2 goals in less than 1:30, game 2 is set for tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden.  In the Western Conference yesterday the L.A. Kings beat St. Louis yesterday 3-1 to take a 1-0 series lead.  Today there are 2 games that will be played, the Flyers and Devils will play game 1 and the Coyotes and Predators will play game 2 of there series.  The Virginia baseball team opened up there weekend series with Miami with 7-3 win rainy Miami, game 2 of the series is set for tonight at 7pm in Miami.  Well I went to RIR last night to watch Kyle Busch win his 4th straight spring race at RIR, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart looked like they had the cars to beat most of the night but a late questionable caution for debris set up Busch for the win.  It had been at least 10 years since I had been to RIR and if it wasn't so cold and damp it would have been a much more pleasant time.  I will have to say Nascar needs to do something to make the racing better because the last few weeks have been quite boring.  Next week the Sprint Cup Series heads to Talladega so I am sure there will be allot more excitement there than there has been the last 2 weeks.  MICKEY

RANGERS & CAPS WILL PLAY GAME 1 TODAY, I AM HEADING TO THE RACE TONIGHT

Well my favorite 2 teams in the NHL will play game 1 of there best of  7 series this afternoon at Madison Square Garden and I will be rooting for the New York Rangers.  Last night Phoenix beat Nashville 4-3 to take a 1-0 series lead.  Also in the NHL Playoffs tonight Los Angeles Kings will be in St. Louis for game 1 of there best of 7 series.  The Virginia baseball team will play game 1 of there weekend series at Miami this afternoon, the Cavs cannot afford to be swept this weekend.  Well I will be heading to the race tonight at Richmond for the 1st time in about the last 10 years tonight, I was given a ticket by former blogger Gary Fox for tonight's race.  Speaking of the race Mark Martin will start on the pole for tonight's race edging Carl Edwards for the top spot.  Kurt Busch won last nights Nationwide race holding off Denny Hamlin on the final lap pick up the win.  There is a 40% chance of rain today an tonight which could put a damper on things at RIR.  MICKEY

Walk It Out for Heart Health

Walking is an enjoyable, safe, inexpensive, and easy to fit into almost anyone's busy day. You can get in walking time by walking to work, walking to the grocery store, and walking around your neighborhood. Aerobic exercises are those that use large muscles in a continuous, rhythmical manner over time, and walking is a great example of that.

COLONIALS LOSE, CAPS WIN

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team lost to Thomas Dale last night 5-2 in a game that if could go wrong for the Colonials it did and I enclosed a photo of 1 of those things that did go wrong.  As you can tell in the photo the ball is still in the air and the runners foot is on the base which usually means you are safe but not in the eyes of last nights umpire.  Well the Colonials will be back in action tonight on the road at Petersburg.  The Virginia baseball team rallied to beat VCU lat night 7-5 at The Diamond, The Cavs picked up 3 runs in the top of the 9th.  In the NHL Playoffs last night the Washington Capitals beat the Boston Bruins in OT 2-1 to win the series 4-3, tonight the Rangers will face the Ottawa Senators tonight in another game 7.  Well it is raining here in the Heights but it is suppose to clear off but for a while before some afternoon t-storms develop so tonight baseball game could be in jeopardy.  MICKEY

COLONIALS AND THOMAS DALE TO TRY AGAIN TODAY, CAPS LOOK TO MOVE ON

Well it was still a bit too wet yesterday afternoon at Shepherd Stadium so the Colonials and the Knights will try again tonight at 6pm to play this Central District game.  The Virginia baseball team had to go to extra innings to beat Radford last night 3-2 in 11 innings, the Cavs will be at The Diamond tonight to face the VCU Rams.  The Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins will play game 7 tonight with the winner moving on to the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.   Last night New Jersey stayed alive beating Florida 3-2 to force a game 7 tomorrow night in Florida.  For some reason a have gone back into a sleep rut, the last two mornings I have woke up at about 4am and just tossed an turned until I to get up.  It looks like some more rain is on the way tomorrow however it is not going to be a steady rain but just some showers and there is a chance of some showers the next few days as well.  MICKEY

COLONIALS AT HOME AGAINST THOMAS DALE, RANGERS FORCE A GAME 7

Well the Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team will be at home this afternoon against Thomas Dale at 4pm if the field can dry out by that time.  With all the rain we had on Sunday and the lack of the sun yesterday there was still allot of water on the field.  Also please note the time change for today's game which was originally scheduled for 6pm will now be played at 4pm if the field dries out in time.  The Virginia baseball team will be at home against Radford today.  The New York Rangers stayed alive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last night with a 3-2 win over Ottawa forcing a game 7 in New York on Thursday night.  Also last night Phoenix eliminated the Chicago Blackhawks from the playoffs.  Tonight Florida will be at New Jersey trying to end the Devils season. MUST WIN GAME FOR THE RANGERS, HAMLIN WINS

Well the New York Rangers hockey team faces a must win game tonight in Ottawa or there season will come to an end, if they don't play any better than they have been playing they are going to have a tough time picking up the win.  The Senators have simply played better for the most part of the series.  The Caps lost to Boston 4-3 yesterday and with win the Bruins force a game 7 on Wednesday night in Boston, I still thinks the Caps can win the series.  Also yesterday the Flyers eliminated the Penguins with a 5-1 win yesterday, the Penguin just couldn't get going offensively.  In the Western Conference last night the Kings eliminated Vancouver form this years playoffs as well, tonight Phoenix will try to finish of Chicago.  Denny Hamlin won yesterday Nascar race at the Kansas Speedway holding off Martin Truex Jr. for the win, Truex had the car to beat until the end when his car got extremely lose.  Next week the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series will be heading to RIR.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA SWEEPS A DOUBLE HEADER, RANGERS ON THE BRINK

The Virginia baseball team bounced back from Fridays loss yesterday sweeping a double header from Duke 12-3 & 10-3.  It was originally for only 1 game yesterday but with today's impending rain they decided to play 2 yesterday and Cavs came away with 2 much needed wins.  Next up for the Cavs are a couple of mid week games, Tuesday they will be home against Radford before traveling to Richmond on Wednesday to face VCU. The New York Rangers the #1 seed in Eastern Conference are on the brink of elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs after Ottawa bead them last night at MSG 2-0 to take a 3-2 series lead with series heading back to Ottawa.  In other action yesterday the Caps beat the Bruins 4-3 to take a 3-2 series and Florida beat New Jersey 3-0 to take a 3-2 series lead as well.  In the Western Conference yesterday St. Louis beat San Jose 3-1 to win the series 4-1 and Chicago beat Phoenix 3-2 but Phoenix still leads the series 3-2.  In the AHL the Norfolk Admirals winning streak cam to an end at 29 when the Manchester Monarchs beat them 5-2, it was the 1st game that they had lost since February 5.  A.J. Allmendinger captured the pole today's Sprint Cup race at the Kansas Speedway edging Kevin Harvick for the top spot.  I almost forgot to mention today is Earth Day so I hope everybody has a HAPPY EARTH DAY.  MICKEY

VIRGINIA FALLS TO DUKE, RED WINGS ELIMINATED

The Virginia baseball team lost to Duke last night 6-3 in Durham, the Cavs need to bounce back and win the next 2 games of the series or they may not make this years ACC baseball tournament.  In the NHL Playoffs last night the Detroit Red Wings became the 1st team eliminated this when Nashville  beat them 2-1 and won the series 4-2, in the only other game yesterday the Penguins stayed alive with a 3-2 win but still trail in the series 3-2.  My 2 favorite teams the New York Rangers & Washington Capitals return to action today in there respective series tied at 2 games a piece, the Rangers will be at home against Ottawa while the Capitals will be on road at Boston.  We didn't have practice yesterday but we will have it this afternoon at 1pm at the stadium.  My lower back is still very sore on my left side, hopefully when I throw some this afternoon it will loosen up a bit.  The Sprint Cup Series will qualify today at the Kansas Speedway for for tomorrows race, the truck series will run at Kansas today.  Well I hope everybody has a good Saturday.  MICKEY

Actually, left-handers may have the advantage in sports that involve two opponents facing each other, such as tennis, boxing, and baseball, according to an MSNBC review of the book The Puzzle of Left-Handednessby Rik Smits. The author chalks it up to the fact that left-handed athletes get a lot more opportunity to practice against right-handed opponents than vice versa (since there are so many more righties out there).

COLONIALS PICK UP A DISTRICT WIN

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team went on the road yesterday to Meadowbrook and cam away with  7-0 win over the Monarchs and with the win improve to 9-4 on the season and 4-3 in the Central District.  The Colonials will return home on Tuesday to face the Thomas Dale Knights.  The Virginia baseball team will be on the road at Duke tonight for game 1 of a 3 game series.  In the NHL Playoffs last night the Capitals evened up there series with Boston at 2-2 with 2-1 win over the Bruins.  Also last night New Jersey beat Florida 4-0 to even up there series at 2-2 as wells and St. Louis and Phoenix are 1 win away from moving onto the next round.  This week the Nascar Sprint Cup Series will be at the Kansas Speedway.  It looks like we are going to have a petty good chance of rain this weekend however there is a bit of uncertainty about how much rain we mat get.  Well I hope everybody has a nice weekend.  MICKEY

COLONIALS ON THE ROAD AT MEADOWBROOK

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team will be on the road at Meadowbrook tonight at 5pm.  After tonight's game we will have played everybody in the Central District once and will began our 2nd round in the district at home against Thomas Dale on Monday.  In the NHL Playoffs last night the Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Ottawa only to have the Senators come back and win the game in OT 3-2 and tie the series up at 2-2.  In the other Eastern Conference series in action last night Pittsburgh stayed alive with a 10-3 win over the Flyers, however the Flyers still lead the series 3-1.  For some reason the lower left side of my back is very sore, I either pulled something at work or did something throwing off the mound yesterday.  All I know is that is very sore.  MICKEY

Well today is Mom & Dad's 52nd wedding anniversary, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MOM & DAD.  The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team will be on the road at Prince George tonight in a key Central District match-up, game time is set for 6pm at Prince George.  The Virginia baseball team will be at home tonight against the Richmond Spiders looking to ends its 3 game losing streak.  In the NHL Playoffs last night the New York Rangers took a 2-1 series lead over Ottawa Senators with 1-0 win last night, the Rangers didn't play there best game game but there goalie pretty much stood on his head in picking up the win.  The Washington Capitals lost to the Boston Bruins 4-3 and now now trail the series 2-1.  It was quite warm here in the Heights yesterday and it's going to be a fairly warm again today before the temps start dropping tomorrow and a bit of rainy pattern seem to be setting up.  MICKEY

RANGER LOSE BUT CAPS WIN IN OT

The New York Rangers lost to the Ottawa Senators last night in game 2 of there best of 7 series 3-2 in OT.  The Senators tied the game up with less than 5 minutes left in the game an won it early into OT, game 3 is set for tomorrow night in Ottawa.  In Boston yesterday afternoon the Washington Capitals won 2-1 in double OT evening there series up at 1-1 with game 3 also set for tomorrow night.  In the AHL last night the Norfolk Admirals won there 27th straight game in OT last night 3-2, the Admirals will go for #28 in Adirondack later today.  The Virginia baseball team lost to North Carolina again yesterday 6-2, the Cavs will try to avoid the sweep this afternoon.  Greg Biffle won last nights Sprint Cup race at Texas holding off Jimmie Johnson for the win and I have to say it was a very boring race.  With the win Biffle has extended his points lead to 19 over both Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. with Martin Truex Jr. 20 back.  Today the Nascar Truck Series return to the Rockingham a track that NASCAR may consider putting back on the Nationwide & Sprint Cup series schedule.  Also down in Corolla, NC last night there was big fire on the oceanfront which appears to involve 5 beach homes, details are still a bit sketchy this morning.  It is going to feel like summer here in the Heights the next 3 days with temps in the 90's.  MICKEY

HAPPY EASTER

First off this morning I hope everybody has a good Easter Sunday, HAPPY EASTER to all you fellow bloggers and visitors to Mickey's Place.  Well keeping it in the Easter theme this morning the New York Rangers pretty much laid an egg against the Washington Capitals last night falling to the Caps 4-1, the Rangers gave up 2 goals in the first 2:18 of the game and just could never get of that whole.  With the loss the Vancouver Canucks captured this Presidents Trophy for the best record in the NHL this year.  The Rangers will face the Ottawa Senators in the 1st round of playoffs while the Capitals will face the Boston Bruins.  In the AHL last night the Norfolk Admirals beat Binghamton 4-1 to win there 25th straight game, the AHL has 1 week left in its regular season.  The Admirals will go for there 26th straight win on Friday night at Albany.  The Virginia baseball team beat Wake Forest yesterday afternoon 9-4 and with the win 20-10 on the season and 7-6 in the ACC, the Cavs will face the Deacs again this afternoon.  Well I have to give myself an Easter haircut.  MICKEY

RANGERS LOOK TO WIN THE PRESIDENTS TROPHY

A win tonight over the Washington Capitals will give the New York Rangers the Presidents Trophy which means the Rangers had the NHL's best record this year and it will be the 1st time that they won it since the last time they won the Stanley Cup back in 1994.  Tonight's game also could be a preview of a 1st round playoff match up depending on the outcome of several other games but there is a good chance they could meet the Capitals in 1st round match up starting next week.  In the AHL last night the Norfolk Admirals won there 24th straight game last night beating Binghamton last night 3-1, the Admirals will look for there 25th straight win tonight against Binghamton which will be there final game of the regular season.  The Virginia vs Wake Forest baseball series starts today, I forgot that this was one of those series that was switched to a Saturday-Monday for TV purposes.  I did go down to Wal-Mart this morning for a little shopping and then over to Dunkin Donuts as well and yes the donuts were very good as well.  MICKEY

A VERY TOUGH NIGHT FOR THE COLONIALS

Well last night to say the least was another tough night for the Colonials baseball team as Dinwiddie beat the Colonials 11-1.  The Colonials offense was pretty much held silent by the Generals starting pitcher who just allowed 1 hit in 6 innings of work striking out 9 before leaving for a reliever in the 7th inning where we scored our only run of the game.  With the Colonials fall to 5-3, 3-2 Central, out next game will be Monday night at 7pm against Clover Hill in the Colonials Baseball Invitational.  The Virginia baseball team opens up a 3 game series at home tonight against Wake Forest.  After Wednesdays temps in the upper 80's it felt like winter returned yesterday with temps in the 50's, tonight it is going to be in the 30's.  I sure am glad that it is Friday I need a couple of days off.  MICKEY

COLONIALS AT HOPEWELL, KENTUCKY WINS THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Colonial Heights Colonials baseball team returns to action tonight on the road Hopewell at 6pm.  If you are going to the game you might want to bring a jacket or sweatshirt because once the sun starts setting the temp starts to drop pretty quick.  The Kentucky Wildcats won the NCAA Basketball Championship last night beating the Kansas Jayhawks 67-59, Kentucky pretty much lead this game from start to finish bun since the game didn't start to around 9:30pm I didn't stay up to see the finish of the game.  Well I have to say the last 2 nights I have slept like a rock and I am hoping it will continue for the next several days because the last few weeks I haven't slept very well.  MICKEY

NEWMAN WINS AT MARTINSVILLE

Ryan Newman won yesterdays Sprint Cup race at the Martinsville Speedway after Jimmie Johnson & Jeff Gordon were taken out in the final laps on a restart.  Gordon & Johnson had pretty much dominated the race until a restart when Clint Boywer dove to the inside entering turn 1 and there just wasn't enough room and all 3 cars spun out and Newman came through and took the lead and held off A.J. Allmendinger on the final restart to pick up the win.  The Sprint Cup Series will be off next weekend for Easter.  The Virginia baseball team lost to N.C. State yesterday in the 9th inning falling to the Wolfpack  7-6, the Cavs had taken the lead in to of the inning.  The pollen has been very bad the last few days and it doesn't seem to be letting up at all.  MICKEY

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY

Well I want to wish all you fellow bloggers a HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY and I hope you don't fall to anybody s pranks today, just keep you guard up.  Well the championship game is now set for this NCAA Basketball Tournament, Kentucky beat Louisville last night 69-61 and Kansas came from behind to beat Ohio State 69-61.  I think Kentucky will win the championship tomorrow night.  Kasey Kahne captured the pole for today's Sprint Cup race at the Martinsville Speedway edging Kevin Harvick for the tops spot, Harvick captured the yesterday truck race at the Martinsville Speedway.  The Virginia baseball team beat N.C. State last night 5-2 last night, the Cavs trailed 2-0 before rallying for the win.  They will play the deciding game of the series this afternoon in Raleigh.  Well so much for a good night sleep last night, just before 3am last night I was woken up by Wham, Bam, Bam as a car rolled several times on I-95 behind the house, there were some injuries but it didn't sound like anything to serious.  Well I guess I will go cut my hair.  MICKEY
