I THINK KEITH, BOBBY, BIFF AND JULIANNE STILL HAVE SHOT BUT THEY NEED TO MAKE UP SOME SERIOUS GROUND THIS WEEK. THE BATTLE FOR 14 HAS REALLY HEATED UP JOY, MURPH AND DUSTY BATTLING IT FOR THAT SPOT. LES DID HAVE THE BEST WEEK IN WEEK 9 GOING 14-6.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, VIRGINIA UPSETS MIAMI

Well I hope everybody has a Happy Halloween and just remember not to eat all the left over Halloween candy at one time. I am guessing that Scott isn't going to have any Trick or Treaters down in Georgia. Well the Virginia Cavaliers gave there fans an early treat yesterday upsetting the Miami Hurricanes 24-19, the Cavs lead 24-0 before Miami made mad a furious came back which came up short. The Cavs will go for there 3rd straight win next week at Duke. In our football pick em contest it looks like Les has extended his lead going into week 10 with only a few players within striking distance of him. In the World Series last night the Texas Rangers beat the Giants 4-2 and now trial the Giants 2-1 in the series with game 4 being played tonight in Texas, GO RANGERS. In the NFL today the Packers will be in New York to face the Jets while the Redskins will be in Detroit to face the Lions. The Nascar Sprint Cup Series will be at Talladega today with Juan Pablo Montoya on the pole, all the contender in chase will be trying to avoid the big one today. MICKEY

Hot—and Cold—Shower
How it helps: Temperature fluctuations jump-start your immune system, says Donielle Wilson, a naturopathic doctor in New York City. At the end of a shower, stand under the hottest stream you can take for 30 seconds, then turn the temperature to cold for 10 seconds. Repeat three times, finishing with cold.

Good to know: A steamy shower helps keep nasal passages clear and can prevent cold-causing bugs from taking up residence in your nose.

VIRGINIA LOOKS TO PICK UP ANOTHER WIN, A TOUGH NIGHT FOR THE COLONIALS

The Virginia Cavalier football team looks to pick up another win today when it plays host to the Miami Hurricanes today in Charlottesville. I think it will be a closer game than many people think but the Hurricanes will still come out on top. Last night in high school football action the Colonials had a tough time with size of the Thomas Dale Knights falling 42-0, the Colonials return home next Friday night when play host to the Petersburg Crimson Wave. Down in Georgia last night it was another tough night for the Eagles of Crawford County as the fell to Monticello 41-18 and at the beach Hertford County beat First Flight 30-14 while Manteo upset Plymouth 20-14. The Texas Rangers face a must win situation tonight against the Giants in the World Series, if the Rangers lose this game I am afraid it will be all over but the crying. Well I think I might do a little more Christmas shopping this morning before the college football games start. MICKEY

Exercise
How it helps: Research has shown that moderate exercise—30 to 90 minutes most days of the week—increases immune function and reduces your chances of catching a cold. Key word: moderate. Prolonged high-intensity exercise can actually make you more susceptible to sickness, according to research from Appalachian State University, in Boone, North Carolina.

Good to know: Don’t swear off workouts if you do get a simple head cold. A 2009 study at the University of Illinois found that moderate exercise can also help you recover from a cold more quickly than normal.

INJURED!!

earlier this season scottie battled a fracture in his right hand, he wore a brace and everything seemed to heal up nicely. then two weeks ago during the green county game he got his hand hung up in a facemask and now has two broken bones in his right hand. he played thru the pain for two weeks and finally tuesday he asked to go to the doctor for an xray, he is wearing a cast now and was told no more football. he will be playing tonight, he has taught himself to snap the football left handed and we are wrapping the cast in foam and tape. that boy is tough.

GIANTS CRUSH RANGERS, COLONIALS ON THE ROAD TONIGHT

The San Francisco Giants pounded the Texas Rangers last night 9-0 to take 2-0 lead in the World Series with series heading to Texas for game 3. In college football action last night the N.C. State Wolfpack upset the Florida State Seminoles 28-24 starting my picks off on a good note this week, hopefully I will have a good week because I need one. In high school football action tonight the Colonials will be on the road at Thomas Dale where it is homecoming tonight. Down in Georgia Crawford County will be on the road at Monticello. Down at the beach First Flight will be at Hertford County and Manteo has a very tough game at undefeated Plymouth. This weeks Nascar race is at the Talladega Super Speedway where everybody in the chase will be trying to avoid the big one. If you are going to tonights football game it is going to be cold and don't forget Thomas Dale starts there games 7pm and the lines are usually very long to get in. MICKEY

Eat Good Bacteria
Studies on specific probiotic products have shown that their ‘good bacteria’ can help prevent or reduce the duration of some gastrointestinal, urogenital, and respiratory illnesses,” says Gregor Reid, Ph.D., a scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute, in London, Canada. Probiotic foods or supplements can be found in foods that are easy to incorporate into your daily diet. Look for probiotic yogurts (such as Dannon Activia and DanActive), tempeh, fortified cheeses, and kefir drinks. Be sure to choose probiotic foods or supplements that contain proven strains, such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 or GG, L. casei Immunitas, and Bifidobacterium animalis DN 114 001; don’t rely just on the words PROBIOTIC or ACIDOPHILUS on the label.

GIANTS TAKE GAME 1

Well so much for a pitching duel in game 1 as the Giants beat the Rangers 11-7. The Giants got 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and never looked back, the Rangers will try to even up the series tonight. Well so much for the warm weather after today, tomorrows high is only suppose to be in the low 60's and I just saw that a few days next week it only looks like it is going to be in the 50's and its going to rain as well. Speaking of the weather there were several tornadoes that touched down in the area yesterday in Henrico and Hanover Counties, we were under a tornado watch several different times yesterday. I have just about everybody's picks this week with the exception of our Georgia contingent, I am sure they will send there picks in today. MICKEY

Rest, don't exercise, when you're under the weather.
Truth: You do need to rest, but a little exercise might help you feel better.
In a study from Ball State University, volunteers with severe colds were divided into two groups, one of which exercised for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The other group simply rested. In both groups, cold symptoms lasted about 8 1/2 days (8.36 for the exercisers; 8.45 for the resters) and peaked during the morning hours. But as a group, the exercisers felt better in the afternoon and evening than the resters did.

While some exercise is good for you, don't overdo it when you're sick. Intense workouts (lasting more than 90 minutes) can actually weaken immunity.

The more you are willing to accept responsibility for your actions, the more credibility you will have. -Brian Koslow

WORLD SERIES STARTS TONIGHT

The 2010 World Series starts tonight in San Francisco with Texas Rangers facing the San Francisco Giants. I am going to be rooting for the Texas Rangers in the series and I think the will win it in 6 games. Well it is raining again here in Colonial Heights this morning and there is also Tornado Watch for the area as well until 10am and its going to be a bit warm today as well with a high in the mid 80's expected. I have uploaded the photos AL took at Keith's 50th birthday party and I have posted the link below. I think that I am about half way thorough my Christmas shopping now which is a relief to me but I bet there are some of you fellow who haven't even started there shopping yet. MICKEY

Cover your mouth with your hand when you cough.
Truth: Although this might look polite and germ preventing, it's anything but.
When you capture a cough or sneeze in your hand, you're likely to pass your cold on to someone else. Cold viruses exist in large quantities in the nasal fluid of sick people and are easily transferred from their hands after even the briefest contact. COWBOYS LOSE AGAIN

It's hard to believe that the Dallas Cowboys are now 1-5 on the season but after last nights 41-35 loss to the New York Giants thats what they are. Not only did the Cowboys lose the game but the also loss there starting QB Tony Romo to a broken collarbone, the Cowboys tough just got a whole lot tougher. Well I din't sleep very well last night, Mozart woke me up last night barking at about 3:30 this morning, he hasn't felt to good since he ate a leaf off of one of our peace lily's. I have created a group on my Facebook page called Mickey's Group, the main reason I created the page was so we everybody in the group could chat with each other in the group at the same time instead of just 1 other person. You lose most of your body heat through your head.
Truth: It's wise to keep your head covered with a cozy hat.
Technically, you don't lose more body heat through your head (about 10%, which is proportional to the body surface area), but it might feel that way, says Cleveland Clinic researcher Daniel Sessler, MD. That’s because your face is about 5 times more sensitive to temperature than other areas are. “It's an early warning system that alerts you to put on a sweater or turn up the thermostat long before your core body temperature gets too cold,” says Dr. Sessler

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH, PACKERS AND REDSKINS WIN

Well today is fellow blogger Keith Goulder's 50th birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH. He had his 50th birthday party yesterday at his house. The Green Bay Packers picked up a much needed victory last night knocking off the Minnesota Vikings 28-24, the Packers picked off former Packer Brett Favre 3 times in the game. The Washington Redskins also won yesterday on the road in Chicago beating the Bears 17-14. Denny Hamlin won yesterdays Nascar race at Martinsville, this was Hamlins 3 straight win at Martinsville. Jimmie Johnson continues to lead the race for the chase however his lead is down to 6 points over Denny Hamlin. Well I am off to work, MICKEY

FOR THE 2ND STRAIGHT WEEK KEITH HAD THE BEST WEEK GOING 15-3 AND BY DOING SO MOVED ALL THE WAY TO 3RD PLACE AND IS CHARGING TO THE FRONT AT VERY FAST PACE. I HAD A VERY BAD WEEK GOING 9-9 AND I AM NOW 10 GAMES BACK WHICH ISN'T VERY GOOD AT ALL, I WENT FROM 7TH TO 10TH. VIRGINIA & ECU WINS

The Virginia Cavaliers picked up there 3rd win of the season yesterday beating Eastern Michigan 48-21. The game was tied at 14-14 at the half before the Cavs broke it open in the 2nd half, the Cavs will be back at home next week against Miami. Well I went down to East Carolina yesterday for the 1st time this year and saw the Pirates beat Marshall 37-10, the Pirates just simply were a better team than Marshall. I have to say that I was very impressed with the stadium expansion at ECU along the new video board. It looks like Les maintained his lead in the college football pick em contest, I will have the updated standings and next weeks games posted a little later this morning. The 2010 World Series is now set as the San Francisco Giants finished of the Phillies last night with a 3-2 win, who would have thought that at the beginning of the season that Giants and Rangers would have been playing for the World Series this year. I hurt my right shoulder yesterday at ECU putting my sweatshirt on during the game, nothing major but I feel like a pulled something at the top of my right shoulder. Well I have to go cut my hair. TEXAS HEADING TO THE WORLD SERIES, COLONIALS LOSE

The Texas Rangers will be heading to the World Series for the 1st time in there history this year after beating the Yankees again last night 6-1 and winning the series 4-1. The Rangers will have to wait until the completion of the NL Championship Series to find out who they will be playing the 2010 World Series, the Giants currently lead the Phillies 3-2 in there best of 7 series. In high school football action last night the Colonials fell to Meadowbrook 41-14, the Colonials only trailed 14-7 at the half before the Monarchs wore them down. Down in Georgia last night Morgan County beat Crawford 45-20 and at the beach First Flight be Bertie 41-21 and Manteo beat Perquimans 28-20. The Virginia football team looks to end its losing streak today against Eastern Michigan, if the Cavs don't win today they might not win another game this year. It looks like that I am going to be heading down to East Carolina for the 1st time this year today to see the Pirates play the Thundering Herd of Marshall. Denny Hamlin captured the pole for this weeks Nascar race at Martinsville. Well I have to go get on the treadmill so I can get a little exercise in before heading heading down to East Carolina. Down in Georgia tonight Morgan County will be at Crawford County at the beach Bertie will beat First Flight and Manteo will be at Paerquimans. In the MLB playoffs last night the Phillies stayed alive with a 4-2 win over the Giants and now trail Giants 3-2 in the series with the series heading back to Philadelphia. In the AL tonight the Yankees and Rangers will play game 6 tonight with Texas with a 3-2 advantage in the series. YANKEES STAY ALIVE, GIANTS WIN AGAIN, COMPUTER BACK UP

The New York Yankees stayed alive in the AL Championship Series yesterday with a 7-2 win over the Texas Rangers, the Yanks still trail the Rangers 3-2 with the series heading back to Texas for the final 2 games of the series. In the NL Championship Series the Giants beat the Phillies 6-5 and now lead the series 3-1 with game 5 being played tonight in San Francisco. Well the main computer here at the house is back up and running after replacing the wireless mouse and keyboard, right now we have a old keyboard and mouse on it and it appears to be running properly again. I have everybody s picks for this weeks contest except John & Andrew, I guess they need a little more time. MICKEY

IT'S HARD FOR ME TO BELIEVE

I was looking at the college football odds for this weekend and its very hard for me to believe that Virginia is favored by 24 points over anybody at this point in the season. If I was a betting man this I would definitely be on this game. I thought the Cavaliers would be favored over Eastern Michigan bit though they would only be about 6 point favorites, I guess we will have to see how the odds makers do with this game. Well the Texas Rangers are just 1 game away for playing in the 2010 World Series after beating the Yankees last night 10-3, I have to say that I am rooting for the Rangers. In the NL Championship Series the San Francisco Giants now lead the Phillies 2-1 after beating the 3-0 yesterday, both series will be in action today as well. I was having computer problems on the main computer this morning so I thats all I have this morning. MICKEY

TEXAS BEATS NEW YORK AGAIN

The Texas Rangers beat the New York Yankees last night 8-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the AL Championship Series. The Rangers dominated the Yankees in every aspect of the game last night but still only counts as 1 win and I wouldn't count the Yankees out just yet. Tonight in MLB playoffs they will play game 3 of the Giants and Phillies series and game 4 of the Yankees and Rangers series. Not allot else going around here so I am heading to work. MICKEY

PACKERS & REDSKINS LOSE

Well it was a tough day in the NFL for both of the teams that I root for. First off the Packers lost for the 2nd straight weekend in OT this time to the Miami Dolphins 23-20, the Packers simply are just beat up and just aren't playing well. Then last night the Colts beat the Redskins 27-24, the Skins had a chance to tie or win the game in the final 2 minutes but couldn't get a first down when they needed it. In the NL Championship Series last night the Phillies beat the Giants 6-1 to even there series up at 1 game a piece, tonight Texas and New York will resume there series tonight in New York with there series tied at 1 game a piece as well. Fellow blogger Keith is down in the great state of Georgia this week for some government work, I don't know what part of the state he is in though. Well I am off to work. MICKEY

NORTH CAROLINA CRUSHES VIRGINIA

I have to say that last nights game was as bad as a performance as I have seen in the last few years of following Virginia football, I don't think it can get any lower but it might next week if they don't straighten some things pretty quick. All the fans keep saying they want a QB change however the the last time I checked the QB doesn't play defense, the defense right now can't stop the run or the pass and thats not the QB fault. Well next weeks Eastern Michigan comes to town coming off a victory over Ball State in OT and there is no reason to think they might not win again next week and I have a feeling they might be favored against Virginia. The East Carolina Pirates won a thriller yesterday in OT against N.C. State 33-27, the Pirates jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead and then had to rally to tie the game before sending it to OT and wining it. Today in the NFL the Packers will be at home against the Dolphins and tonight the Redskins will be at home against the Colts. In the MLB playoffs yesterday the Rangers evened up there series with the Yankees a 1-1 and the Giants beat the Phillies to take a 1-0 lead in that series. Jamie McMurray won last nights race at Charlotte edging out Kyle Busch for the win, Jimmie Johnson continues to lead the point standings with a 41 point lead over Denny Hamlin. In our college football pick-em contest it looks like we have a new leader after week 7, I will have the updated standings out a little later this morning. MICKEY

YANKEES WIN GAME 1, COLONIALS FALL

Well it looked like the Texas Rangers were going to win game 1 of the AL Championship Series when they jumped out to a 5-0 lead through 6 innings before the Yankees rallied for 6-5 win. The Yanks got 1 run in the 7th inning before getting 5 more in the top of the 8th inning and stunning the Texas crowd taking game 1 of the series. The NL series gets underway tonight. The Colonial Heights Colonials football team lost to Matoaca 28-18 last night on homecoming, there were a couple of big plays in the game by Matoaca which hurt the Colonials. The Virginia Cavalier football team will be back at home tonight at 6pm when they face the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Tar Heels have not won since 1981 in Charlottesville. Also tonight the Nascar Sprint Cup Series will be in action the Charlotte Motor Speedway. MICKEY

Apples, They Zap Cholesterol
Thanks to two key components, pectin (a type of fiber) and polyphenols (powerful antioxidants), apples can take a bite out of blood cholesterol levels and prevent the oxidation of LDL ("bad") cholesterol — the chemical process that turns it into artery-clogging plaque. The trick to maximizing the benefit: Don't toss the peel; apple skin has two to six times the antioxidant compounds as the flesh.

IT'S HOMECOMING TONIGHT IN COLONIAL HEIGHTS

Well it's Homecoming tonight in Colonial Heights and the Colonials will be facing the Matoaca Warriors tonight at 7:30pm. If you are going to the game you had better dress accordingly because the temp is going to drop into the 50's during the game, at leat it is going to feel like football weather. Down in Georgia tonight the Crawford County Eagles will be on the road at Greene County. Down at the beach the First Flight looks to end a 2 game losing streak when it plays at home against Edenton Holmes High School and Manteo will be at home against Northside Pinetown. Jeff Gordon capture the pole for this weekends race at Charlotte edging out Carl Edwards for the top spot. I did finally get Andrews picks last night and he said that he has just been to busy to do them and I have to say most people in the contest picked up 2 wins last night. I am sure am glad that it is Friday. MCG

Stay in Motion
According to several studies, moderate exercise (walking briskly, cycling, or swimming for 45 minutes, five times a week) has been shown to enhance your body’s defenses and even cut down sick days by up to 50 percent. Aerobic exercise enhances blood flow, and “the circulatory system is the route of transport for those cells that fight off infection,” says David Katz, an internist and the director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center, in Derby, Connecticut. But don’t assume that more exercise makes for superhuman bug resistance. Studies have revealed that prolonged, vigorous exercise (like running a marathon) can compromise immunity after the workout.

Well it is raining again here in Colonial Heights this morning and we can sure use all the rain we can get thats for sure. Hopefully all the rain we have gotten will continue to fill up Lake Chesdin so we can lift those water restrictions we are under. I have everybody's picks for this weeks contest except Andrew, an he will have until 7pm tonight to get his in or he will forfeit tonights game. Just to let everyone know that hockey season has started I have posted a pretty good fight in last night Pittsburgh and Toronto game, it looks like there was KO at the end of the fight. MICKEY

THE TEXAS RANGERS MOVE ON

The Texas Rangers won there 1st playoff series in franchise history last night beating the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 and winning the series 3-2. The Rangers will now face the New York Yankees for the American League Championship. I think that I will be rooting for the two underdogs in there respective series the Giants and the Rangers. I don't have anything else so I going to get ready to go to work. MICKEY

Keep it in perspective
A good chunk of what we worry about happens to be things we have little or no control over, like work layoffs. Ask yourself whether the worrying is really worthwhile. Once you examine the threat and accept that it's unlikely or out of your hands, you will worry about it less.

BRAVES KNOCKED OUT

Well the Braves put up another good fight last night but came up 1 run short and were eliminated by the Giants 3-2. Every game in this series was decided by 1 run but unfortunately for the Braves the Giants won 3 out of 4 of the games. The Giants will now face the Phillies in the best of 7 National League Championship Series. In the AL the Rangers will travel back to Tampa Bay tonight to face the Rays with the winner moving on to face the Yankees. Some much colder temperatures are on the way starting tomorrow after todays high temperature around 88 it is only going to be in the low 70's tomorrow before dropping into the 60's Thursday and Friday and it looks like we are going to get some more much needed rain on Thursday as well. I am off to work. MICKEY

REDS SWEPT, PACKERS LOSE IN OT

Well the Cincinnati Reds season came to an end last night when the Phillies beat the Reds 2-0 and by doing so swept the series with the Reds 3-0. The Braves blew a 2-1 lead in the top of the 9th inning and lost to the Giants 3-2, the Giants now lead the series 2-1 with game for set for tonight in Atlanta. Also yesterday the Devil Rays beat the Rangers forcing a game 5 in Tampa tomorrow night. The Green Bay Packers lost to the Washington Redskins yesterday 16-13 OT, the Packers lost allot of good players in this game which will hurt them in upcoming weeks, also after the game QB Arron Rogers was diagnosed with a concussion which could keep him out of action for a few weeks. The Redskins are now tied for 1st place at 3-2 with the Eagles & Giants with the Cowboys 1 game behind them. Tony Stewart won yesterdays race at Fontana holding off Clint Bowyer for the win, Jimmie Johnson now leads Denny Hamlin by 36 points in the Race for the Chase. My left wrist is bothering me this morning, it feels like I might have bent it backwards but I don't remember doing it but it sore. Also today is Columbus Day no I am not off like all you government workers. MICKEY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ME MA EVELYN, GREEN BAY AT WASHINGTON

Well today is Me Ma Evelyn's 90th birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ME MA EVELYN. I have posted a nice picture of her with her favorite dog Mozart taking a few months ago. Today in the NFL the Green Bay Packers will be in Washington today to face the Redskins, I have to root for the Packers in this game but I will root for the Redskins the rest of the time as long as they are not playing the Packers. It was another tough afternoon on the football field for the Virginia Cavaliers yesterday when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets ran all over the Cavaliers 33-21, the Cavs just could not stop Georgia Tech's triple option. The New York Yankees became the first team to move on to 2nd round of the 2010 MLB playoffs sweeping the Twins, the other 3 series wlll all be in in action today with Phillies and Rangers trying to close out there series while the Braves will be looking to take a series lead over the Giants. In the NHL last night the Rangers opened up the season with a 6-3 win over the Sabres, the Rangers looked very good last night will face the Islanders next on Monday afternoon in a Columbus Day Special. I will have the updated standings from Mickey's Place College Football Contest later this morning. MICKEY

BRAVES EVEN UP THERE SERIES, REDS DOWN 2-0

Well I didn't stay up to see it but the Atlanta Braves evened up there series with Giants at 1 game piece with a 5-4 win in 11 innings. While the Braves turned things around th same thing cant be said about the Cincinnati Reds, the Reds blew a 4-0 lead by falling apart late in the game and losing to the Phillies 7-4 and it looks like the Reds season will end tomorrow. In high school football action last night the Colonial lost to Prince George 21-8 and the Crawford County Eagles lost to Lamar County 29-14 and I have posted the other scores of interest below. Today in college football action the Virginia Cavaliers will be on the road at Georgia Tech and facing there former head coach Al Groh who is defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, I think this game could be interesting. In the NHL tonight my the New York Rangers will open up there season at Buffalo, the Caps dropped there opener last nigh to Atlanta 4-2. Jamie McMurray captured the pole for this weekends race at Fontana edging out Elliott Sadler for the top spot, by the way I was in Emporia yesterday for about 30 minutes. MCG

COLONIALS ON THE ROAD TONIGHT, BRAVES LOSE 1-0

The Colonial Heights Colonials football team will be on the road tonight for the 1st time this season at Prince George, I haven't decided for sure if I am going to make the tip over there yet tonight but I probably will. Down in Georgia is Senior Night when Crawford County plays host to Lamar County, the Eagles will be looking for and upset win tonight. Down at the beach First Flight will be at Pasquotank and Manteo will be at South Creek. The Atlanta Braves lost a tough won last night to the San Francisco Giants 1-0 in a pitching duel, the Braves and Giants will play game 2 tonight. The Reds will look to rebound against the Phillies tonight in game 2 of there series, hopefully they will be able to get a hit tonight. The Rangers and Yankees now lead there series 2-0, I think the Rangers are looking very good right now. This weeks Nascar race is in Fontana, California and I am sure there will be plenty of empty seats out there. it looks like it is going to be a very nice weekend around here with highs in the upper 70 to low 80's with a very little chance of rain. Have a great day, MCG

REDS GET NO HIT

The Cincinnati Reds post season didn't start as they hoped it would yesterday when the Reds beaten by the Phillies 4-0. Not only didn't the Reds score a run but they didn't even get a hit off of Roy Halladay, the Reds and Phillies will take a day off before playing game 2 of there series Tuesday. The Rangers and Yankees also won there playoff games yesterday taken a 1-0 series lead in there respective series. The Braves and Giants start there series tonight. The NHL season also starts tonight as well with 5 games, the rest of teams in the league will open theres seasons in the next couple od days. I am a bit sore this morning, my left side of my body is sore, I think I tweaked something at work. MICKEY

REDS IN PLAYOFF ACTION TODAY

The Cincinnati Reds open up there series with the Philadelphia Phillies later today in Philadelphia, the Phillies are heavily favored to win the series but I am hoping the Reds can pull it out. The Phillies look to have the best pitching staff in the playoffs and are going to be very tough to beat. At work yesterday I went to the mountains to the town of Scottsville, it was the first time that I have been there and appeared to be a very nice old town but pretty much was in the middle of nowhere. Dad said the Colonial Heights basketball team played them back in the 60's, that sure would have been a long ride on the bus back then. By the way the reason I was in Scottsville was to make a delivery at a Chinese Restaurant. GO REDS, MICKEY

Mnemophobia—Fear of Memories
Life is full of good times and bad, resulting in a mixed bag of memories. Most people learn to cope, and even benefit from past experiences—except those suffering from mnemophobia. For these people, all memories, positive or negative, are feared. A flip side of this disorder is that some sufferers fear losing their memory, which has become more common as Alzheimer's becomes a bigger issue.

IT'S COLD HERE IN THE HEIGHTS THIS MORNING

Well I went out to get the paper this morning and I quickly returned to the hose to get a stocking hat, it is a very cold 42 degrees here in the Heights but it is suppose to rebound into the mis 60's this afternoon. I am a bit sore this morning because I did allot of lifting yesterday at work, we had bit of a roof leak last week when we had all the rain we had and I was trying to relocate the inventory which cant get wet. Well the baseball playoffs start tomorrow with 3 games including the Reds visiting the Phillies in game 1 of there series, the Braves and Giants don't start there series until Thursday. The picks have been extremely slow coming in so far for my pick-em contest, hopefully they will start coming in a bit quicker today. MICKEY

PACKERS & RESDKINS WIN, BRAVES MAKE PLAYOFFS

The Green Bay Packers didn't play very well yesterday but did beat Detroit 28-26, next week the Packers will be in Washington to face the Redskins. Speaking of the Redskins the Skins picked up a big 17-12 win over the Eagles, the Skins jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and held on for the win. The Atlanta Braves had to wait to final day of the season to clinch the NL Wildcard and by doing so will face the San Francisco Giants in the best 5 series, the other NL series has the Cincinnati Reds Facing the heavily favored Philadelphia Phillies. Greg Biffle won yesterdays race at the Kansas Speedway and Jimmie Johnson is now your new points leader leading Denny Hamlin by 8 points and Kevin Harvick by 30. Well it is raining right now here in the Heights but it is suppose to stop later this morning but it is going be a very cool day. Well I am off to work. MCG

Broccoli
Why it’s good for you: A nutrient powerhouse, broccoli is an excellent source of vitamins C, K and A, as well as folate and fiber. Plus, broccoli contains a certain pectin fiber called calcium pectate, which may help lower blood cholesterol.

BRAVES TIED IN WILD CARD RACE, VIRGINIA FALLS

The Atlanta Braves lost again yesterday to the Philadelphia Phillies and now are tied with Padres for the NL Wild Card, the Braves need to win today to guarantee them a chance to win the wild card with a play in game. The Braves could win today and not have to play a play in game depending on who win the Padres vs Giants game. In college football yesterday the Virginia Cavaliers were overwhelmed by the Florida State Seminoles 34-14, the Cavs were beaten in every aspect of the game and just to seem to have come out very flat. Just looking at the early number from our football contest it looks like the Chief will be in 1st place by himself, I will have the updated standing out later this morning along with net weeks games. Today in the NFL the Packers are back at home against the Lions while the Redskins travel Philadelphia to face the Eagles. It looks like we might pick up some more rain here in the Heights the next few days, todays high is only suppose to be 65 BRRRR. MCG

Squash
Why it’s good for you: One cup of cooked winter squash is high in both vitamin A (214 percent of the recommended daily value) and vitamin C (33 percent), as well as a good source of vitamins B6 and K, potassium and folate.

COLONIALS FALL, VIRGINIA HAS A BIG GAME TODAY

The Colonial Heights Colonials football team lost to a very good Dinwiddie team last night 42-12. Dinwiddie just had to much size and speed for the Colonials, the Colonials will return to action on the road next Friday night at Prince George. Down in Georgia last night it was another very tough night for the Eagles as the lost Southwest 27-0 and it appears that both Manteo and First Flight were washed out last night and will have to make up there games on Monday. The Virginia football team has big game this afternoon against the Florida State Seminoles in Charlottesville, I am not going to todays game but I am going to watch it on TV for sure. Kasey Kahne captured the pole for Sundays race edging out his teammate Paul Menard for the top spot. MICKEY

THE RAIN HAS STOPPED, COLONIALS AT HOME AGAIN TONIGHT

Well it appears that the rain has finally stopped here in the Heights and it appears we got about 5 inches of rain all together over the last few days, however fellow blogger Les's rain gage picked up over 10 inches. The temps will be noticeably colder the next 5 days as well with highs only in the low 70's the next couple of days before dropping back into the mid 60's. The Colonial Heights Colonials will be back at home tonight against Central District favorite Dinwiddie if the field is not to wet, I am hoping they get in tonight. Also tonight down in Georgia the Crawford County Eagles will be at home against Southwest Highs School and down at the beach First Flight returns to action tonight at Northeastern and Manteo is at home against Southside. The Atlanta Braves now lead the NL Wild Card race by 2 games with 3 games left in the season after the Padres lost to the Cubs last night 1-0, the Braves finish out there season at home against the Phillies while the Padres face the Giants. It appears we have lost 1 player in our football contest this week unless he sends his picks in for the rest of the weekend today, if not he will be terminated form the contest. This weeks Nascar race will be at the Kansas Speedway. I have posted the Crawford County helmet on the page to give the Eagles some good luck tonight in picking up there 1st win of the season. Panphobia—Fear of Everything
Having one phobia can be crippling, but at least if it’s about a single thing—dogs or snakes, for example—you can easily avoid it and live in relative peace. But for those suffering from panphobia (a.k.a. pantophobia), there is no escaping. Sufferers experience "a state of anxiety or fear not related to any one particular thing," according to WrongDiagnosis.com—which causes them to spend their lives afraid of everything.
