Here are few more photos of the progress being made on the new room. They painted the walls and put tile down in the new bathroom. MICKEY

UPSET SATURDAY, VIRGINIA WINS AGAIN

It was not a good weekend to be in the top 10 in the college football rankings as (3) Oklahoma, (4) Florida, (5) West Virginia,(7) Texas and (10) Rutgers all lost to unranked teams with the exception of West Virginaia. There were also several other upsets in college football and I have posted all the scores below. The Virginia Cavaliers came out on a mission last night to destroy Pittsburgh and they did building a 30-7 half time lead en route to a 44-14 victory over the Panthers. I was sitting right beside the Pitt Panther cheering section and I have to say they didn't get up to often and they weren't pleased at when UVA scored the final TD on fake field goal. From what I understand the reason for the fake FG goes back to last years game when Pitt ran a double reverse while leading 31-13 in the 2nd half, Groh was just trying even the score. The East Carolina Pirates picked up there 2nd victory of the season yesterday beating Houston 37-35 in a defensive struggle and the Georgia Bulldogs hammered Mississippi 45-17. The Green Bay Packers will try to improve to 4-0 on the season today when they travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings, the Packers for some reason don't play well in domed stadiums so they could be in trouble today. Jimmy Johnson will lead the field to the green flag this afternoon at the Kansas Speedway. I will try to post some new photos of the new room later today, they started painting the room Friday and did some bathroom work as well. MICKEY

last night games was probably the ugliest football game i've ever seen. good thing prince george's coach called off the dogs in the 2nd half!!!!

EAGLES & COLONIALS FALL

The Crawford County Eagles lost there 1st game of the season last night against the Pike County Pirates 31-19, Scott said the Eagles made simply to many mistakes to win the game, next up for the Eagles is a trip to Heard County. The CH Colonials fell to the Prince George Royals 34-13, the Royals jumped on the Colonials early and lead 34-0 at the half before were able to put 2 TD's on the board. Next week the Colonials will travel to Dinwiddie to play a very good Dinwiddie team. The Thomas Dale Knights pulled a big upset in the Central District knocking off Meadowbrook 19-16. I will not be going to any college football games today for the 1st time in about 4 weeks, I guess I will just set back and watch the games on TV. The Virginia Cavaliers will try keep there winning streak alive tonight when the Pitt Panthers visit Scott Stadium, last year the CAVS suffered an embarrassing loss to PITT. Also today the North Carolina Tar Heels will be at Virginia Tech, East Carolina will be at Houston and Mississippi will be at Georgia. Today A.G. will be working the Akron at Connecticut game, I have posted some other games of interest below. Jimmy Johnson captured the pole for this weeks race at th Kansas Speedway, Matt Kenseth will join him on the front row. Well the computer is working a bit better this morning but there are some programs that are still not working. I did have to put my sweatshirt on this morning before heading to Wal-Mart, it was a cool 55 degrees this morning and it's suppose to be in the 40's the next couple of mornings. MICKEY

Understanding Fever Blisters

Fever blisters, sometimes called cold sores, are small blisters that occur on the lips or in or around the mouth. The sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and can be very painful.

Here are some facts and suggestions about fever blisters, courtesy of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery:

* The dormant fever blister virus can be made active by stress, the sun, fever, hormonal changes or trauma.
* The virus is very contagious, and can be easily spread to other areas of the body, and from person to person.
* To reduce the risk of spreading the virus, avoid touching or picking at a blister, and avoid touching other people or other parts of your body until you wash your hands thoroughly.
* Fever blisters tend to recur, often in the same place.
* The virus can be spread even when there are no blisters present.
* While there is no cure for the virus, antiviral ointment applied to a sore can help hide its appearance.

TODAY'S RIDDLE

What kind of hogs do you find on highways?

Well the internet is working right now but I don't know how long it is going to be working because I'm going to put in a wireless card. I can't believe that my job was working on the network. I might be calling Trapper to help.

I just love computers.

I AM BACK UPAND RUNNING

Well after having some computer problems yesterday we are back up and running, although I don't think we are back at 100% yet. The problems have arose because we are going to switch to Direct TV fairly soon and had to find a new internet provider which is Verizon. After installing Verizon a few headaches arose and there are still a few kinks that need to be worked out, like everything else you are using for the 1st time I guess you have to get used to it. I will have a new e-mail address in the not so distant future. I saw former blogger Gary Fox yesterday afternoon & told him he needed to come back and join us on Mickey's Place. I saw Gary at the CHHS cross county meet, that's right I went to my 1st cross country meet yesterday, Gary's son Jonathan was running for the "Evil Empire". Scot was there a JV football game yesterday or are they playing today. Also last night fellow blogger and karaoke star Glenn joined us for dinner last night at the Cracker Barrel, thats right from what I understand Glenn is karaoke star. The construction crew hasn't made much progress on the new room this week, they seem to be missing in action. MICKEY

1989 - The first two people to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and live to tell about it, did so this day. Actually, Jeffrey Petkovich and Peter DeBernardi went over 167-foot high Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side of the Falls.

Wash Fruits and Vegetables
While it's important to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables each day, it's also crucial to wash them before eating.

Here are some guidelines, courtesy of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension:

* Wash any raw fruit or vegetable before peeling, cutting, eating or cooking.
* Try a fruit and vegetable wash that is designed to remove bacteria and pesticides.
* Soak and wash produce in distilled water for one to two minutes.
* Use a vegetable brush to scrub any produce with a thick skin.
* Wash any produce that you grew yourself, or that was grown by someone else.
* Thoroughly wash your hands and any cutting or preparation surfaces before preparing fresh produce.

TODAY'S RIDDLE

What kind of person loves cocoa?

Yeah!! Going shopping today to look for furniture and shades for the new room. No one is here to work on the room so I don't know when I will get to actually put the furniture in the room. I did cook the first thing on the new stove. I cooked pancakes for Andrew. He spent the night at our house because his Mom had a meeting early in the morning. Mickey has used the stove before but not me. I will have to practice so I will be able to cook Christmas Eve dinner.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELANIE

Well today is fellow blogger Melanie's birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELANIE. I didn't know how Melanie is but fellow blogger Bobby says she is 49 so we will go with that, I am sure she will correct us if we are wrong. I have posted a nice birthday photo of Melanie since all my flattering birthday photos are on no our old computer my sources are limited. Also I understand that fellow blogger Al may have got a new phone, can anyone confirm this. I did go up and watch the Colonials volleyball in action last night against L.C. Bird, they boys team won 3-0 & the girls team fell 3-2. The boys team has only lost one match all year and that was to Thomas Dale. My arm is a bit sore this morning because I threw a baseball for the 1st time in about three months. It looks like it is going to be pretty warm the next few days with high around 90, where is Fall at. MICKEY

1890 - A U.S. National Park was established in Central California. It was called Sequoia National Park after the giant redwood trees that grow there.
1933 - America’s favorite cowboy, Tom Mix, was heard for the first time on NBC radio. The Tom Mix Ralston Straight Shooters continued on the air until June 1950.
1950 - NBC-TV introduced a new concept in daytime programming. Kate Smith debuted an hourlong show. Her theme song for the show was When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain. Kate’s daytime show ran for four years. God Bless America.
1965 - Willie Mays hit his fiftieth home run of the baseball season, making him the oldest player to accomplish this. He was 34 years old. Ten years before, at the age of 24, he was the youngest man to accomplish the same feat.
1981 - Sandra Day O’Connor became the first woman to sit on the bench of the U.S. Supreme Court. She was sworn in as the 102nd Justice.

Simple desires
For every desire you have, no matter how far out of reach it may seem, there is a part of that desire, at some level, which can be fulfilled right now. If you desire a shiny new sports car, ask yourself why. Don't be satisfied with an answer of "who wouldn't?" Make a real and sincere effort to uncover the deep and driving connection between the desire and your true self.

What if, at the heart of it, your desire for a sports car was driven by the simple desire to feel the cool wind in your face? All too often, we are ashamed at the raw simplicity of our desires, and we seek to hide them in complexity. What an enormous amount of needless effort that obliges!

Whatever you desire, go for it as directly as possible or you'll run the risk of getting sidetracked by all the interim necessities along the way. Most desires are simple and wonderful. Acknowledge their true essence, and you're well on your way toward their fulfillment.
