COMPUTER CRASHES YESTERDAY

The computer here at the house crashed yesterday and I lost my entire music media files and some other programs as well. Mom had to work on the computer to get back allot of other files as well, certain programs don't seem to be affected by what happened but others appear to bne to be gone. Needless to say I am not happy to lose all my music files. The UVA baseball team beat VMI yesterday 5-3, with the win the Cavs have 9 straight games, they will play Delaware in a 3 game series this weekend. I injured another finger yesterday at work, I was using the pallet jack when it got pinched in the handle, needless to say I have a pretty good blood blister on my finger. I was unable to throw at practice yesterday because my left shoulder and neck hurting, hopefully I will be able to throw today. MICKEY

I AM HURTING AGAIN

After having three days rest from throwing I thought I was feeling better but after throwing Monday I don't think the days off helped me that much. I think I have some type of nerve problem on the left side of my neck and shoulder, it hurts worst than my right arm. I did put the heat pad on my left shoulder last night and it did feel better for a while but it was pretty short lived, it just feels like something needs to pop back into place. Maybe I need to go to massage therapist to see if they can work out my problems. I am very questionable to pitch today at practice, maybe if I take some Advil before practice I will be able to throw. Also going to the dentist yesterday didn't help the situation in my neck at all, the good news from the dentists office was that she didn't think my crown was lose which means I won't have to go back for another 6 months because everything else looked ok. I really think I am falling apart. The UVA baseball team returns to the field today at 4pm when the Cavaliers play in state rival VMI, the Cavs are 10-1 on the season. MICKEY

UNC FALLS, I AM HEADING TO THE DENTIST THIS MORNING

The Maryland Terrapins upset the UNC Tar Heels 89-87 last night in College Park, Md, and with the UNC loss there is a three way tie for 1st place in the ACC with UVA, Virginia Tech and UNC. Virginia will play Virginia Tech Thursday night at the JPJ Arena in a huge game with the winner getting the inside track for an ACC title. For the 2nd straight weekend in Nascar the winner of the Busch race also won the Nextel Cup race, last week it was Kevin Harvick and this week it was Matt Kenseth. There was one very hard crash in the race and I have posted a photo from the AP of David Reutimann walking to the ambulance after a violent crash. The Nextel Cup Series is off this week before the go to Las Vegas the following week. Also yesterday I went over and saw VSU play Post University again, the Trojans on the game 8-7 after being down 6-2, it was very cold day for baseball. I am going to be a little late for work this morning because I have to go to one of my least favorite places at 8:15am, the dentist office. I am only going for a checkup today but may have to go back soon because I think the crown I have may be coming lose. Hopefully we will be able to get on the field at the stadium today for practice, we did get some pretty steady rain yesterday but I don't think we got as much as they were expecting. MICKEY

A GOOD TO DAY FOR UVA SPORTS

Well Saturday was a good day for the Virginia Cavaliers on the hardwood and on the diamond. First the UVA basketball team beat Georgia Tech 75-69 and by doing so remained tied for 2nd place in the ACC with Virginia Tech who beat Miami yesterday, both teams are 1 game behind UNC who will play at Maryland tonight. Next up for the Cavaliers basketball team is a Thursday night showdown with Virginia Tech. The UVA baseball team swept a double header yesterday over the Bucknell Bison 3-0 and 13-2, next up for the Cavalier baseball team is game with VMI on Tuesday. Speaking of baseball I went over and saw the 1st game of a DH yesterday between the Virginia State Trojans and the Post University Eagles, the Trojans had two former Colonials playing for them Jeff Shelton and Andrew Holt. The Eagles won the game 4-3 in the top of the 7th and Jeff pitched all 7 innings for the Trojans and Andrew did have two hits in the game and 1 RBI, I didn't stay for the second game, I have posted the box score below for the game. They said it was going to rain all day here in CH but so far this morning it hasn't rained at all, the radar is showing some rain to the west of us though, hopefully it won't be to heavy when it comes threw. Matt Kenseth won the Busch Series race last night and Jeff Gordon will lead the field in the Nextel Cup Series race later today. I am feeling better but I am nowhere near 100%. MICKEY

RENEGADES FALL AGAIN

Last nights game at the Richmond Coliseum may have been won of the worst games I have seen the Gades play all year, it just looked like they were going threw the motions. They weren't playing with any heart and it looked like Knoxville was at least two steps ahead of them all night. The Gades did score the first goal of the game but after that Knoxville controlled the game en route to a 5-2 victory. I think the Gades have run out of steam, hopefully they can get some momentum back before the playoffs start. There was also a very special guest in attendance last night, fellow blogger Al made an appearance at the game last night. The UVA baseball team continued to roll along yesterday knocking off Bucknell 2-0, the Cavs will play a DH with Bucknell today. The UVA basketball will be back in action today when Georgia Tech pays a visit to the JPJ Arena, the Cavs need a win to keep pace with Virginia Tech for 2nd place in the ACC, the Hokies are at home against Miami today. Jeff Gordon captured the pole for this weeks Nextel Cup event at the California Speedway, the Busch cars will race there tonight. We will have our first baseball scrimmage of the year next Saturday at 11am against Trinity, hopefully we won't get to much rain Sunday so we can get a few more practices in before next weeks scrimmage. I am feeling a bit better this morning, I may be back to at least 85% by Mondays practice. MICKEY

After throwing batting practice four days in a row I will be out of action today with several undisclosed ailments. Let's just say I am hurting pretty bad and I just need a little time to recover from a few injuries, the pitching machine will have to see some action today. The Richmond Renegades will be at home tonight against the Knoxville Ice Bears in which will be a 1 game home stand, the CAA basketball tournament will be at the RC next week so the Gades won't be back at home for another 2 weeks. The AAA sate high school wrestling tournament begins today in northern Virginia, Colonial Heights will have three wrestlers going for state titles. The UVA baseball team begins a three game home stand with Bucknell this afternoon. Were in the world has Keith been, the government must have him working to hard. I am sure that I will have to take some Advil at some point today but I should be able to throw a little bit if needed today at practice, the pain index is still on the rise though. The Virginia Cavaliers basketball team will return to the floor tonight at Miami, the Cavs must win tonight to keep pace with UNC which plays NC State at home tonight. Another big ACC game tonight has Boston College traveling to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech. The UVA baseball team continued it's winning ways yesterday hammering William & Mary 17-2, today they will face power Coppin State before a weekend series with Bucknell. I have posted an photo from past of Me Ma Ruth holding a baby, can anybody tell who that baby is? BASEBALL PRACTICE UNDERWAY

Well baseball practice got underway yesterday and it was a little cool but it wasn't to bad once I started throwing some. We weren't able to get on the infield at the stadium yesterday but we were able to hit in the outfield. I think we should be able to get on the infield by this afternoon since it didn't freeze last night and it is going be windy and warm today which should dry out the infield a bit. As you can tell my aches and pain index has began to climb a bit, I do have a blister on my right big toe and my arm is a little tight but I should be able to throw some this afternoon if needed, I think I will probably be hurting worst Wednesday. BASEBALL PRACTICE STARTS TODAY

Well today is the first day of baseball practice and it's going be little cool, I think my arm is as ready is it's going to be all year. I am sure it will be hurting a bit though by the end of the week, at least it looks like it warming up quite a bit by the end of the week. Hopefully we will be able to get on the field fairly early this week, it has been quite soft. Kevin Harvick good weekend continued Sunday afternoon capturing his 1st Daytona 500 victory, Harvick cam out of nowhere on last lap to edge Mark Martin for the victory. This year they didn't have the big one until the last lap which was good, next week they will travel to the California Speedway. Well the Richmond Renegades made it 0-3 this weekend falling to the Fayetteville FireAntz 5-2 on Sunday, the Gades lead 2-0 before the wheels came off again. The Gades will be back at home Friday night against the Knoxville Ice Bears. Virginia and UNC now sit atop the ACC standings by themselves now after NC State upset Virginia Tech for the 2nd time this year 81-56, State blew Tech out. The UVA baseball team aslo won again yesterday 11-1 over George Washington, the same two teams will face of again today, the Cavs are now 4-1. THE DAYTONA 500

Well another Nascar season officially kicks of this afternoon with the running of the 49th annual Daytona 500. The green flag is set to fly at 3:15pm and the pre-race show starts at 2pm on FOX. Kevin Harvick started off the Busch series were he finished last year at the top winning yesterdays Busch race at Daytona, Harvick however will not run the entire Busch series this year. I think Tony Stewart may be the man to beat today but there are several Virginia drivers who could give him a run for his money. The Virginia Cavaliers are now tied for 1st place in the ACC with UNC after beating Florida State 73-70 and UNC beating Boston College yesterday. Virginia Tech can join them at the top of the ACC standings with a win over NC State today. The UVA baseball team won yesterday 11-0 over George Washington, the Cavs will play them again today and Monday as well. The Colonial Heights wrestling team finished 4th in the Central Region wrestling tournament yesterday at Hanover out of 20 teams, the CD was represented well as Thomas place 3rd. Several CH wrestlers qualified for the state AAA wrestling tournament next week and one of our baseball players Hugh Morgan won the 135 weight class for the Colonials. The Renegades woes continued last night in Knoxville as the Renegades built a 3-0 first period lead only to blow it in the 2nd period giving up four goals en route to 4-3 loss, the Gades will try to get off the snide today when they play the Fayetteville FireAntz. Well baseball practice starts tomorrow and it looks like it is going to be cold, who would have figured. It does appear that temps will rise a bit after tomorrow but there is chance of rain later in the week. MICKEY

UVA BACK AT HOME THIS AFTERNOON

The Virginia Cavaliers are back at the JPJ Arena this afternoon when they welcome the Florida St. Seminoles to town. This is a very big game for the Cavaliers if they want to keep up with front runners of the ACC and I think another win will put them in the NCAA tournament, Florida St. also needs to win this game to keep there chances alive as well. Also tonight UNC visits Boston College in a very big ACC game, I think the Heels are going to win this one though. The UVA baseball team will host George Washington this afternoon as well. The Richmond Renegades were embarrassed again last night in Huntsville falling to the Havoc 8-3, the Havoc seem to have the Renegades number, tonight the Gades will be in Knoxville. Jack Sprague won last night Nascar truck race at Daytona in a photo finish with a little help from Johnny Benson, Travis Kvapil should have won the race but somehow he blew it when they came to the line. I have posted a few photos from RUETERS from the truck race. Today the Busch series will take to the track at Daytona for 300 miler, it also marks the return of ESPN to Nascar which will broadcast the entire Busch series schedule with the ESPN brand of networks. They did have some glazed donuts at Wal-Mart this morning and they were pretty good. Andrew's basketball team has it's final game of the regular season this morning, they will start the playoffs next week. MICKEY

I am just glad it is Friday, for some reason it just felt like this week would never end, I need two days rest. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon won yesterdays qualifying races at Daytona for Sundays Daytona 500, however in post race inspection Jeff Gordon's car failed post race inspection because it was a lttle to low so he has been relegated back to the 42nd starting position for the race. Tonight at Daytona the truck series will race and the Busch cars will race Saturday afternoon. The Richmond Renegades begin a three game road trip tonight in Huntsville, the Gades haven't had to much luck playing Huntville, the Havoc seem to have the Gades number. The Gades will be back in town next Friday night when the play the Knoxville Ice Bears. If you have any Peter Pan peanut butter you might not want to eat it until you check the product code, if you don't it might make you a bit sick. UVA's baseball team was suppose to be back in action today against George Washington but that game has been postponed till Monday because of field conditions, the rest of the series will be played as scheduled. East Carolina's baseball team will play at UCLA this weekend. I have posted below a link to the last game of the season for CH girls basketball team in the CD tournament against Thomas Dale. Scott do you have an update on Scottie and the baseball team. MICKEY

THINGS ARE GETTING TIGHT IN THE ACC AGAIN

With Duke's upset win over Boston College last night there are four teams with three losses atop the ACC basketball standings. Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC and Boston College all have three losses in conference but BC has 9 wins so they are technicallyin 1st by percentage points over the other three teams because they only have 8 wins at this time. There still are several big games coming for all team atop the ACC in the last two weeks of the season. Today at Daytona they will set the remainder of the field for Sunday's Daytona 500, the Gatorade Duals start at 2pm on Speed TV. There have been several teams that have been caught cheating this weekend and the crew chiefs for the 9,10, 17, 19 and 55 cars are no longer at Daytona, all have been ejected and the owners and the drivers of those teams have been docked points as well. Last night on the 6pm news Jim Duncan said they overall weather pattern for central Virginia will improve greatly next week when the polar jet stream retreats to north, he said the temps should start moderating greatly around mid week and that there maybe a cold day or two but the overall temps should be much milder starting next weeek which sounds good to me. Boil meets grill
If you're boiling vegetables, you're losing key nutrients. There is a better way. Turn up the oven to 425 degrees and roast 'em. High heat seals in the veggies' juices -- and the nutrients, which leech out in boiling water. The flavor is remarkably better, too -- roasting caramelizes veggies' natural sugars, and you won't need a pat of butter or a cheese sauce to dress them up. When roasting, cut the vegetable into evenly sized pieces to ensure even cooking. Spray a baking sheet with heart-healthy canola or olive oil. Spread the veggies evenly out on the sheet, and spray with the oil. Add your favorite seasoning and roast until the veggies are tender on the inside.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

I just thought I would wish everybody a HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY from Mickey's Place. It was a very tough night for both the Colonial Heights girls and boys basketball teams last night in the Central District Tournament. The CH girls team fell to Thomas Dale 60-44 in a game the Colonials just didn't have a good game. On the boys side Petersburg beat CH 97-45 at Petersburg, it was a very tough season for the CH boys team. In college basketball last night UVA hammered Longwood 90-49 at the JPJ Arena, the Cavs will play Florida St next at home on Saturday. Also last night Virginia Tech stunned UNC in OT 81-80 at the Dean Dome, this win should put Tech in the NCAA tournament. Looking ahead to the 1st day of baseball practice on Monday, the weather looks like it is going to be in the mid 40's but the ground may freeze the night before causing some problems. MICKEY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW

We have another birthday today, Andrew is now 9 years old, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW. He had his birthday party yesterday afternoon and then went to see the Renegades play last night with 9 or 10 of his friends and they got to sit on the front row. Speaking of the Renegades they won again last night OT, this time they beat the Pee Dee Cyclones 4-3. The Gades were lucky to get a win in this won because I don't think they played to well, the Gades will now be on the road until Feb 23, the circus will be in Richmond next week. Tony Stewart won last night Bud Shootout at Daytona, they will qualify today at Daytona for the front row for the Daytona 500, there are 61 drivers trying to make the race. The Virginia Tech Hokies dismantled the Virginia Cavaliers in basketball yesterday 84-57, the Cavs looked terrible and you could tell right off it was goingto be a long game for the Cavs. The UVA baseball team picked up another victory yesterday beating the North Florida Ospreys 10-1 in South Carolina, today the Cavaliers will face Coastal Carolina. There still a chance that a winter storm could effect CH area starting Monday night, the National Weather Service is now are appearing to call for more sleet and freezing rain than snow though. The temperature on Monday is suppose to be in the low 50's. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW. MICKEY

RENEGADES WIN 3-2 IN OT

The Richmond Renegades beat the Knoxville Ice Bears in OT last night at the RC 3-2. I have to say that the last 6 minutes of regulation and the overtime was some of the most entertaining hockey we have seen in quite some time. Dad thought he should be the #1 star of the game since he turned the red light on all 3 Richmond goals. Tonight at the RC the Gades will play host to the Pee Dee Cyclones, Andrew will be having a birthday bash tonight at the hockey game with some of his friends. Also I understand that fellow bloggers AL and Donna will be making a special appearance at the hockey game as well. Andrew's birthday isn't till tomorrow but I thought I would post a photo of Colonial Heights #1 fan today. The CH boys basketball team fell in there final game of the regular season last night 84-41 at Meadowbrook, they will play Petersburg next week in the CD tournament. The UVA basketball team basktball team will be going for it's 8th straight ACC win this afternoon when they play Va. UVA WINS 8TH SRAIGHT IN THE ACC, COLONIALS SURVIVE

The Virginia Cavaliers won there 8th straight ACC game last night knocking off Maryland 69-65 at the Comcast Center. The Cavs lead most of the game and built a pretty big lead before Maryland made a late run but the Cavs were able to withstand the Terps run and hold on for the victory. Next up for the Cavs is a trip to Blacksburg Saturday to play the Hokies. The Colonial Heights girls basketball team picked up another win last night at Matoaca 36-33, I have to say that they Colonials didn't play well but they came away with the win and that is all that matters. The Colonials were down 24-13 at the half but held Matoaca to just 9 points in the 2nd half en route to the victory. Just when I thought the officials couldn't get any worse they did, the three refs they had at Matoaca last night were horrendous. The CH boys team will host Matoaca tonight. The Renegades return to the RC tonight for the 1st game of three home games in four nights at home when the play host to the Fayetteville FireAntz, the Gades gave been struggling a bit on offense. It looks like we dodged another weather bullet today, I don't even think we got a flake of snow and it's a balmy 32 this morning here in CH. MICKEY

CH GIRLS WIN, UVA GOES FOR 7TH STRAIGHT VICTORY

The CH girls basketball team picked up another win last night defeating Hopewell 61-41, they will be back in action tonight when they travel to Matoaca. The CH boys team fell to Lee-Davis last night 39-36. The Virginia Cavaliers will be going for there 7th straight victory tonight when they play the Maryland Terrapins at Maryland, the Cavs need to win to stay even with UNC and Boston College for the top spot in the ACC. It is very cold this morning here in Colonial Heights, my outdoor temp reading on my atomic clock is showing 9.7 degrees. We could get a little light snow as well tonight with little or no accumulation, they could get a little more north of Richmond. I have decided to add Mickey's Aches & Pain Index to the blog to let everybody know how I am feeling on any certain day. The index runs from 0-10, the higher the number the worst I feel and the lower the number the better I feel. Also I didn't get much sleep because the cat was in the house and that did make my aces an pain index go up today. MICKEY

COLTS WIN SUPER BOWL, RENEGADES CRUSHED

I have to say things didn't start out to well for the Colts when the Bears ran the opening kickoff back for a TD but after that the Colts quickly took over the game for the most part en route to 29-17 victory. The Bears looked pretty bad in the 2nd half on offense and I don't think the rain helped them, I think the Colts were the beast team on paper and they proved it on the field as well. The Richmond Renegades might as well stayed on the bus in Huntsville, the Gades trailed 4-0 after the first period and got hammered by the Havoc 7-2, the Gades have three home games this week on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Both the CH girls and boys basketball teams will be back in action tonight with the girls team playing Hopewell at home and the boys team traveling to Lee-Davis. I went to the warehouse and threw about 150 to 200 pitches trying to get my arm ready for practice which begins in two weeks, I am a bit sore this morning but I got a feeling it's going to get worst throughout the day. It is going to be very cold tonight here in CH with a low predicted between 7-9 degrees. MICKEY

VIRGINIA TIED FOR 1ST IN THE ACC, GADES WIN ON THE ROAD

Who would have thought that the Virginia Cavaliers would be tied for first place in the ACC in the 1st week of February. With UVA's 71-60 victory Miami and NC State's upset win over UNC there is a three way tie for the top spot in the ACC with Boston College, UNC and Virginia. Next up for UVA is a trip to College Park, Md to play the Terrapins. The Richmond Renegades defeated the Knoxville Ice Bears on the road last night 3-2, the Gades will play in Huntsville this afternoon against the Havoc, the Gades are in 2nd place right now 1 point behind the Columbus Cottonmouths. Speaking of Huntsville fellow blogger Keith will be heading down there today to do a little work for the government. I am going to go over to the warehouse later today to do a little throwing trying to get my arm in shape for high school spring training which starts on Feb 19, so I might be complaining of a sore arm tomorrow. Well today is Super Bowl Sunday, the game will start at 6:25pm on CBS, I think the Colts are going to win but I think it will be a very close game. Another blast of arctic air will arrive tonight here in CH, the next three day's high temps are suppose to be 34, 33 and 33 with lows at night of 15, 9 and 12 respectively. I don't know about you but I am tired of all these arctic blasts of air already. Well try to stay warm. MICKEY

Go nuts!

Eat the right number of nuts per week, and you may cut your risk of a fatal heart attack in half! That's what studies have shown for people who eat nuts five times or more per week. Many nuts, especially walnuts, are a good source of fatty acids that work in the body to lower heart disease risk. Eating nuts can help lower blood cholesterol, and reduce the risk of sudden severe heart attacks. But when eating nuts, it's important not to go overboard, because they're loaded with calories -- a 1/2 cup contains about 350 calories and 36 grams of fat. Instead of snacking on nuts by the handful, use them as an accent in a salad, in baked goods or pilafs.

GADES CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE LOSE 5-4

The Richmond Renegades battled back from a 4-2 to defect last night in the 3rd period to tie the game at 4-4 only to give up the game winning goal on a defensive lapse by the goalie and a defensemen a short time later. The Gades again come out a bit flat for the first two periods of game before they decided that they wanted to play the way they can in the 3rd but it was to late. The Gades are Knoxville tonight and Huntsville Sunday afternoon, it could be a long weekend for the Gades if they don't ready play at the start of the game. The CH Colonials boys basketball team fell to Hopewell last night 59-35. The Virginia basketball team will be going for it's 6th straight victory tonight in the ACC when they play the Miami Hurricanes at the JPJ Arena, fellow blogger Keith won't be in attendance so they will have to win this one on there own. My neck isn't hurting as bad as it was now but my left foot has picked up the slack. I think the problem with my treadmill has contributed to my foot problem and the treadmill problem doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. UVA STUNS DUKE IN OT, KEITH'S STREAL STILL ALIVE

The Virginia Cavaliers tied the game late in regulation on a shot by Sean Singletary an won the game on shot by Singletary 1.0 seconds left to give the Cavs a 68-66 victory. With the win the Cavs are now 6-2 in the ACC and tied for 2nd place behind UNC, also the victory kept fellow bloggers Keith's winning streak alive in games in which he has attended. I don't know what the streak is at now maybe Keith will tell us. Well we got about an inch of snow yesterday and it is all gone now so have say school will be open today to the dismay of several bloggers. I have to say that's the kind of snow I like myself, snow one day gone the next. The CH girls basketball game last night was postponed by the bad weather and it appear to have been rescheduled for Monday night, the boys team will be at Hopewell tonight. If anybody needs something to do tonight the Richmond Renegades will be at home against the Fayetteville FireAntz, these two teams have had some pretty good games so far. Also Andrew's basketball team will be back in action Saturday morning at 8am, that seems a little early to me. Well TGIF, and almost forgot to mention today is groundhog day. MICKEY

Boost "good" cholesterol
Here's one of the best arguments for daily aerobic exercise. Medical trials suggest that a daily dose of walking, biking, jogging, or swimming helps reduce the risk of heart disease, especially if that increased activity helps you lose weight. Research shows such exercise is the best way to raise HDLs, the "good" cholesterol that helps carry harmful fats out of your system.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JOY &SCOTT

Today is Joy & Scott's 10th Wedding Anniversary so I though I would wish them a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. The Richmond Renegades lost to the Knoxville Ice Bears last night 5-2, the Gades came out flat and played that way all night, the were out hustled by the Ice Bears all night. The Gades will be back in action Friday night at the RC against the Fayetteville FireAntz. After the game I got pulled by the VCU police for not having me headlights on, I blame fellow blogger Bobby and Les for this because I had to rush to leave our parking space because the light was getting reading to change and they were taking there sweet time. When I turned my lights on in such a hurry I just put the parking lights on, if I wasn't in such a hurry it wouldn't have happened. It looks like we are going to get some wintry weather today and tonight, the ? is how much, there is a possibility of 1-3 inches of snow before it is all done but it could change to all freezing rain Friday morning before it all ends which cause quite a mess. It looks like school will be open today but Friday there could be a big ? mark if school will open. The CH boys basketball team fell 90-47 to Prince George last night, the CH girls team will play Hopewell at home tonight weather permitting, I have to say it's not looking good for this game tonight. Also tonight Duke will be playing at Virginia in a big ACC match up at the JPJ Arena, I think fellow blogger may be going if the weather isn't to bad. In closing I have a very stiff neck, it has been sore for a few weeks now but I think I tweaked a bit yesterday and it is hurting this morning. If you think it has been cold this week wait till next week. MICKEY
