PACKERS CHANCE OF MAKING PLAYOFFS SLIM, GEORGIA UPSETS VA TECH

The chances of the Green Bay Packers making this years NFL playoffs were dealt a severe blow last night when the Giants beat the Redskins 34-28, the Skins jumped out to an early 7-0 but that was the only time they lead the game the rest of the night. The Packers will finish out the season tonight at Chicago. The Georgia came from 18 points down in the second half to upset Virginia Tech last night at the Georgia Dome. The Bulldogs struggles terribly on offense in the 1st half but the second half the looked like a different team and the Bulldog defense contained Va Tech explosive offense. Last night at the Richmond Coliseum the Richmond Renegades had another pretty tough night falling to the Huntsville Havoc 7-4 and believe my it wasn't that close, Huntsville dominated play the entire game. There were a couple of good scraps and one big altercation involving the Huntsville goalie and there were some big hits also. Richmond needs some more offense in a bad way. I have posted what happened to Gary on Tuesday below, he posted what happened in the comments section of Tuesday entry but I don't think everybody saw it. It looks like it could be a rainy New Years Eve and New Years Day here in CH. MICKEY

HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO GARY
Here is the story. I was in Circuit City in the Heights with some family members and asked if they were going to handle the recall on the wrist straps for the Ninento WII controllers. The salespunk said no and that it was old people that were having a problem holding on to them in the first place. That was bad enough but he kept going and said people over 40 should not play video games anyway. Old people have no business playing young people games and should stick to wheelchairs. He kept mouthing off to the point I went off on him and then his supervisor whom shall remain anonymous as he and I have had run ins before when I was the president of Wells Atheletic Association and banned him (and his fat kid) from the association. Needless to say the f bomb was dropped (sorry ladies) and I was asked to leave before they called the cops. I gladly told them how they needed reinforcements in dealing with such an old man of 53. Needless to say I left highly insulted but instead of never setting fooot in the store have asked for the real manager of Circuit City to call me and will not only seek a face to face meeting I will force them to honor the recall. I simply defended my fellow AARP members.

Four short words sum up what has lifted most successful individuals above the crowd: a little bit more. They did all that was expected of them and a little bit more.

Men: Eat More Tomatoes
Research suggests that lycopene, a substance found in tomatoes, may play a role in lowering men's odds of developing prostate cancer. Cooked tomato products, such as tomato sauce, are particularly healthful. Cooking breaks down tomato cell walls and releases the lycopene, making it easier for the body to absorb. A 2001 study by the National Foundation for Cancer Research found men with prostate cancer who ate one entree with tomato sauce per day for three weeks before surgery had a significant decrease in prostate tissue damage after their operations.

1879 - Thomas Edison delighted an audience in Menlo Park, New Jersey. He gave his first public demonstration of incandescent lighting with the words, “Now it’s on. Now it’s off.” He did this for hours and hours. Well, not quite. But he did turn the lights on and off a few times just to show folks that he could do it.
1950 - Willie Shoemaker and Joe Culmone, both 19 years of age, became the first jockeys to ride 388 winners in a single year.
1967 - Playing in a wind chill of 40 degrees below zero, the Green Bay Packers won the National Football League championship game by defeating Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys, 21-17. The game, played at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin was called the Ice Bowl. During the game, the whistles of the referees actually froze to their lips, which was no problem until the referees tried to remove those whistles (ouch!). It turned out to be the coldest championship game ever.

RENEGADES BEAT SNAKES, GO GEORGIA

The Richmond Renegades played one of there best games of the year last night defensively and beat the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-1 at the Richmond Coliseum. The Gades fell behind 1-0 midway threw the 2nd period before rallying for four straight goals. The Gades are back at home tonight against the 1st place Huntsville Havoc. The Gades victory could be attributed to Andrew being in attendance last night, he could have bought his winning streak from the JPJ Arena with to the RC. The CH girls basketball team picked up another victory yesterday beating Potomac 50-33, the Colonials are now 5-4 on the season and will play Prince George on Tuesday night at Colonial Heights. The Georgia Bulldogs will play Virginia Tech tonight at the Georgia Dome, I know that there are allot of fellow bloggers who hope the boys from down south can knock off the Hokies tonight. Speaking of college football the Minnesota Golden Gophers blew a 31 point lead last night and lost to Texas Tech in OT 44-41, Texas Tech scored 24 points in the 4th quarter to tie the game. The Washington Redskins will finish up there season tonight at Fed Ex Field against the NY Giants, the Packers need the Skins to win this one to have a shot at making the playoffs Sunday night, Go Skins. Also yesterday was another milestone for bright red truck, it now has 4,000 miles on it and I have decided to give the truck the week off to rest, the truck is now 1 year and 5 months old. MICKEY

Prevent "pour" nutrition
If you're not careful, you may pour veggies' vitamins and nutrients down the drain. Cooking vegetables in water significantly lowers the nutrient content because vitamins leech out. You wind up discarding some very nutritious cooking water! Steaming is your best option for cooking vegetables. The water makes no contact with the food and nutrient loss is minimized.

KEITH & ANDREW STILL UNDEFEATED AT THE JPJ ARENA

Keith and Andrew extended there winning streak at the JPJ Arena last night when Virginia beat American 91-70. I don't know exactly how many wins it is now between them but I think they need to step up the competition a little. The Richmond Renegades will be back at home tonight against the Columbus Cottonmouths, this will be Columbus first visit of the season and only the second time they have played them all season, the Cottonmouths are 1 point ahead of the Renegades in the standings. The CH girls basketball had a tough afternoon yesterday falling to Bryn Mawr 52-36, the Colonials will play Potomac today. Not only has mom had the flu but fellow blogger Scott has been under the weather since returning to Georgia as well, Scott did go to the doctor and they gave him a shot for his misery. Well since Monday is New Years Day I will have another long weekend, last weekend a 4 day weekend and this weekend a 3 day weekend, it sure feels like I am working for the government for sure now. FIREANTZ STING RENEGADES, FELLOW BLOGGER ASKED TO LEAVE STORE

The Richmond Renegades were outplayed last night by the Fayetteville FireaAntz at the RC, the FireAntz controlled the flow of the game en route to a 6-2 victory over the Gades. The Gades are back at home Friday night when Columbus comes to town. The Colonial Heights girls basketball team will be back in action today against Bryn Mawr in the Collegiate holiday tournament, Bryn Mawr is a private school from the Baltimore area. Keith and Andrew will be trying to extend there winning streak tonight at the John Paul Jones Arena when UVA plays host to American, American is coached by for UVA coach and player Jeff Jones. The Florida State Seminoles beat the UCLA Bruins last night 44-27 in the Emerald City Bowl, it might have been FSU best game of the year. Mom appears to be feeling a little better but she still not at 100%, there appears to be a very strong stomach flu which has swept threw the area according to local doctors. In closing today a fellow blogger who will remain nameless (GF) was asked to leave a Colonial Heights store after causing a disturbance in the store, apparently an associate of the store said something that made him angry. Gerald Ford, the 38th President of the United States, died Tuesday night at the age of 93. Ford, who played on Michigan's 1932 and '33 national championship football teams, was the longest living president. Well after being off from work for 4 days I am heading back to work today, it was a much needed break. The Richmond Renegades will be back in action tonight at home against the Fayetteville FireAntz, team owner Allan B Harvie will be coaching the Renegades tonight since coach John Brophy has been suspended for getting second ejection of the season Saturday night. There is a bit of a rivalry brewing with the FireAntz. I am also a bit sore this morning from taking a bloggers table back to his house yesterday morning, my neck and shoulder are a bit sore. I have posted a photo of me the blog master in my new hat that I got for Christmas from Keith, Andrew and Maureen. I think I might start selling Mickey's Place merchandise. MICKEY

CHRISTMAS HAS COME AND GONE

Well Christmas has now come and gone for another year and from what I saw it looked like everybody had a pretty good time and probably ate a little to much. If you are not tired of turkey and ham yet there might be something wrong with you. As you an tell by the time I posted today's entry I am off today, I fell like I am working for the government getting a an extra day off. Well I have to say the prize for the biggest Christmas surprise was having Scott, Joy, Scottie and Dusty show up out the house on Christmas eve, nobody new they were coming and I don't think Scott decided they were coming until sometime Thursday. Well the Woodfin family left this morning on there way back to Georgia. I have posted a link below to Al's Christmas day photos. I guess all the stores will start there after Christmas sales today, you might want to stay away from the mall area again today, there will be allot of shoppers looking for a good deal. In a bit of a sports wrap up for the weekend the Redskins blew another game Sunday falling to the Rams in OT 37-31, the Skins should have won this game but the defense I thought played a very poor game. The Green Bay Packers still have a shot to make the playoffs going to the NFL's final week of the season, they have to have the Redskins beat the Giants Saturday night and then they have to beat the Bears on Sunday night, it could happen. I have added a countdown clock showing the amount time before first day of baseball practice as requested by several bloggers, it really not that far off. Also it appears mom is a bit under the weather this morning, I think she might of some type of flu. Well again I hope everybody had MERRY CHRISTMAS. MICKEY

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas and to all bloggers a good night. Well we had some surprise visitors last night the annual Christmas eve bash, guess who showed up last night? That's right the Woodfin family drove all the way from Georgia to be at the bash last night. I think everybody got plenty to eat and if they didn't it was there own fault. I have posted a link below from last nights bash and I will have another update later or an depth report on Tuesday's entry. I have to go make some rounds, MERRY CHRISTMAS, FROM THE BLOGMASTER, MICKEY

CHRISTMAS EVE

Well it's Christmas Eve and that means it's time annual family Christmas bash. Dad cleaned all day yesterday and mom was doing allot of cooking getting ready for this years bash. If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet time has run out. I sure hope everybody is ready for Christmas. Well the East Carolina Pirates had a pretty tough time yesterday with the South Florida Bulls losing 24-7, it just looked like the Pirates just couldn't get anything to go there way. Hopefully next Saturday the Georgia Bulldogs will pull the upset of Virginia Tech. Today in the NFL Washington will travel to St. Louis to play the Rams, I think the Skins will this one. The Richmond Renegades picked up second victory in as many nights beating the Fayetteville FirAntz in a shootout 5-4, in the shootout Coach Brophy was ejected for protesting a call. It looks like there will not be a white Christmas again this year, however it does look like it is going to be a wet Christmas though. I posted a picture collage from when Santa visited back in 2003. HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS, MICKEY

Put exercise on your shopping list -- it's easy to burn calories right where you buy 'em. Carry two bags of groceries home for an impromptu workout. Or, carry your child instead of using a stroller. These are just two ways to fit fitness into your day without blocking out over an hour to get to the gym. Squeeze in bits of activity whenever you have an opportunity, and it can add up to a big difference in how you look and feel. And even moderate physical activity can reduce the risk of heart disease and early death.

EAST CAROLINA IN BOWL ACTION TODAY

The East Carolina Pirates football team will be playing in it's first bowl game since 2001 today at 1pm when it plays South Florida in the PaPaJohnsPizza.com bowl in Birmingham, Al at Historic Legion Field. In ECU's last bowl appearance the Pirates scored 61 points but lost the game to Marshall 64-61 in double OT in the GMAC bowl, hopefully the Pirates will have a better day today. Speaking of college athletics two fixtures at Georgia Bulldogs games "Hairy Dawg" and fellow mascot "Spike" were attacked at Georgia's home basketball game Tuesday night and tackled to the hardwood by two delinquents from Crawford County, Ga and can you believe alcohol might have been involved. What kind of people are they raising in Crawford County? The Richmond Renegades ended there three game losing streak last night beating the Florida Seals 4-2, the Gades will play in Fayetteville tonight against the FireAntz. The Gades will return home Wednesday night against those same FireAntz. Well I went down to Wal-Mart this morning at 6am and I have to say that tempers were running a bit short, there were allot of people in the store and they only had three checkouts open and that wasn't sitting well with the people in line. I have to say that I have never seen the CH in such disarray as it was this morning, but I have to say that Wal-Mart should have known that they needed more people working being that it is just two days before Christmas even if it was early in the morning. Well I hope everybosy has finished there Christmas shopping now. MICKEY

COLONIALS, CAVALIERS AND PACKERS ALL WIN

Well it was a goods sports day for me on Thursday with the Colonials, Cavaliers and Packers all picking up wins. The Colonials picked up a victory yesterday beating Charles City 55-46 in the consolation game of the Colonial Invitational, the Colonials boys team will now be off until after the holidays. The Virginia Cavaliers salvaged one victory on there trip to Puerto Rico beating the host school the PR-Mayaguez Bulldogs 59-52, it wasn't an easy victory for the Cavs they only lead by 1 point at the half. Virginia is no 7-3 and will play American University next on Dec 28. The Green Bay Packers won there third straight game last night beating the Minnesota Vikings, 9-7 in a defensive struggle. The Packers points came on three field goals and the Vikings only TD was an interception return for a TD. The Packers are now 7-8 and will finish up the season at Chicago next week. The Richmond Renegades will return to the ice tonight against the Florida Seals hoping to end a three game losing streak. It looks like it is going to be a very rainy day here in Colonial Heights today for all the people who haven't finished there Christmas shopping, I hope all you fellow bloggers have finished up your Christmas shopping. VIRGINIA FALLS AGAIN IN SAN JAUN

The Virginia Cavaliers were embarrassed again yesterday by Utah 94-70, they are probably wishing that they had never made the trip to San Juan. Today they will play the Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Bulldogs and if the don't win this game they might not win another game all season, I thought the basketball team had turned things around by apparently they haven't. The CH Colonials lost last night in the first round of the Colonial Heights Holiday Invitational 63-61 to West End Christian, the Colonials will play Charles City in the consolation game tonight. The Green Bay Packers will try to win it's third straight game tonight win the play the Minnesota Vikings, I won't be able to watch it because we don't get the NFL Network. I hope Al and Scott have resolved there Christmas Card issues, apparently neither one have got a card from each other. I have posted a photo of a hockey fan who had pretty tough night while watching a hockey game. MICKEY

Mind over yoga mat-ters.
Increase confidence, control stress and promote peace of mind -- it's all in the poses. Yoga also improves your posture and circulation, and increases your flexibility, strength and coordination. Many cities have a yoga association that provides information about various types of classes. Check the Yellow Pages under "yoga instruction," or call a local fitness center for the names of studios. The cost is typically $15 to $20 per class, with discounts for multiple classes.
