Happy Halloween

I just thought I would wish everybody a Happy Halloween. I will be at home tonight but I will not be giving out candy. It was another rough day for the Packers sunday and it looked like the Skins forgot to show up as well. Carl Edwards got to do another back flip from his car in Atlanta after winning yesterdays race, also Tony Stewart extended his point lead over Jimmy Johnson. It looks like it is going to be a nice weather week here in CH with temps in the upper 60's to low 70's all week. MICKEY

I was feeling so badly that I was getting all the attention, so last night I purchased a little engagement "bling-bling" for my FAVORITE guy! If you happen to stop in Staples Automotive this week, you'll see the official engagement photo and Al's "diamond" on display. All of you already know what a great guy he is, but I have to say, I can't wait to marry the man I love who is also my very best friend! :)

Riverdogs 0 For 2005

The Riverdogs are now 0-5 and the way they are playing I don't know when or who they are going to beat. They just don't look like they have any purpose at all and they don't appear to be playing as a team. The offense is terrible and the defense is just as bad and the goalie looks like swiss cheese. The only good thing right now is that they don't have a home game for about 10 days, they can only get better because I don't think they can get any worst. Today in the NFL Green Bay is at Cincinnati, Washington is at the NY Giants, and on monday Baltimore will be at Pittsburgh. The Nextel Cup Series is in Atlanta and Scott and the family will be making the trip over to Atlanta to see the race. Ryan Newman is on the pole for todays race. In the chase for the Nextel Cup Tony Stewart leads Jimmy Johnson by 15 points. I hope everybody set there clocks back, if not you will be early for everything until you do. MICKEY

Colonials Now 7-1, Dogs Lose Again

The CH Colonials are now 7-1 after defeating Hopewell 10-6 last night on senior night in CH. With the win the Colonials set up a big game next week at Matoaca which is also 7-1. Here are the scores from last night in the CD Matoaca 55 Dinwiddie 20, Meadowbrook 27 Prince George 0 and Thomas Dale 34 Petersburg 0. In NC Manoteo loss there first game of the season falling to Southside 16-13 and Bertie defeated First Flight 36-0. AT the Dog Pound last night the Rivedogs lost 2-1 to the Roanoke Valley Vipers, the Dogs lead 1-0 going into the third period but were unable to hold the lead. The offense still isn't there and the defense is pretty poor, the only reason the game was close last night was because of the goalie. Today in college football Georgia plays Florida-3.5, GA would be favored I think if there starting QB was healthy. In the ACC Wake Forest-12.5 at Duke, UNC at Miami-21, Southern Miss at NC State-7, Clemson at Ga Tech-2.5 and Maryland at Fla St-17. Also today Central Florida at ECU-1.5. MICKEY

Hopewell AT CH, Riverdogs Back In Action

The CH Colonials have there final home game of the season tonight against the Hopewell Blue Devils, a win could go a long way in the Colonials making the playoffs. Also tonight in the CD Meadowbrook at Prince George, Thomas Dale at Petersburg and Matoaca at Dinwiddie. In NC Hertford County at First Flight and Southside 8-0 is at Manteo #6 in the state. The Crawfor County Eagles took it on the chin last night in there final game of the season, Scott thinks the score was 28-8 he was working when the game ended. Well in my previuos post you saw the ICU softabll season came to an end last night, it was fun to get out there and play again with the group of players that we had. The Riverdogs will try to get there first win of the season tonight when the Roanoke Valley Vipers come to town, the Vipers are 1-1 and the Dogs are 0-3. MICKEY

ICU Loses In Championship Game

The ICU softball season came to an end tonight as the ICU fell 12-10 in the championship game to THE STORM. The ICU won the losers bracket finals and beat The Storm in the first game before falling the championship game. I sure did not help our cause at the bat, I had a miserable night at the plate. I am thinking about going back into softball retirement after my performance tonight. I guess I will be able to rest my elbow now for a few months and get it ready for baseball season. MICKEY

White Sox Win World Series

The Chicago White Sox completed the sweep of the Houston Astros last night with 1-0 victory over the Astros. It is the first time they have won the World Series since 1917, the photo I have posted is from the AP. Also Nashville is no longer undefeated in the NHL, they fell to Columbus 3-2 in OT. Tonight in the ACC there is a big game in Blacksburg as VA Tech-13.5 host the Eagles of Boston College it should be cold over there tonigh but both teams should be use to the cold weather. The ICU softball team game wed night was postponed again because the field was still pretty soft, it looks we will finish up softball tonight but it is going to be cold, gametime 6:30 pm on Lakeview #2 field. Also tonight the Crawford County Eagles will play a thursday night game against the Rutland Hurricanes in Roberta, the Hurricanes haven't won a game all season. I predict the score to be Crawford 14 Rutland 13 in OT. MICKEY

The Nashville Predators won again last night to remain the NHL only unbeaten team at 8-0, they play Columbus tonight. The ICU softball team will try to finish out the season again tonight if the field dries enough, the games will be played on Lakeview #2 field. The ICU will be without Rick Toombs who has a badly sprained shoulder. Also the JV Colonials look to get back on track tonight as they travel to Hopewell. MICKEY

The weather here in CH was cold and damp monday, and it might be that way again this morning before it clears off. Dogs Now 0-3, Pack Lose Again

The Riverdogs are off to a horrible start, they are now 0-3 after losing today 5-2 to Adirondack. They are playing very badly and they better do something pretty quick or it's going to be a very long season. The Packers lost to maybe the worst team in football 23-20 after leading 17-3 in the 3rd quarter, I am embarassed to be a Packer fan after losing to the Vikings. The Packers will never win anything until the get another coach. Then I go to watch the race and Jeff Gordon win that, it hasn't been a very good day here in CH. Well at least the Redskins won today. UVA Looks Terrible, Dogs Lose Again

Well UVA looked as bad as a football team could look yesterday in a 7-5 loss to UNC. The offense was pathetic against a team that gave up more than 60 points just a few weeks ago. As bad as they played they still had a chance to win it but then accepted a penalty instead of the down which in the end cost them a shot at winning the game because UNC was pretty much able to run the clock out. It was very dicouraging atching them play. In other college football yesterday ECU loss to Memphis 27-24, the Pirates spotted Memphis a 17-0 lead at the start which did them in. Georgia beat Arkansas 23-20 but may have lost there starting QB for a while and they play Florida next week, if they have play a backup QB this could be a very tough game. Today in the NFL Breen Bay-2 at Minn, San Francisco at Washington-13.5 and Pittsburgh at Cinncinnati-1. The Riverdogs gave up 3 goals in the first 4 minutes of the game last night in Adirondack and were never able to recover losing to Icehawks 8-3, the only bright spot for the Dogs was a hatrick by Warren Cooper. I also understand the GA State police maybe looking for a truck driver who ran someone off the road this past week. MICKEY

Colonials Win, Dogs Lose

Well I decided to go to the hockey game last night, maybe I should have gone to the football game. The CH Colonials improved to 6-1 on the season with a 25-8 victory over Prince George, the Colonial are home next friday against Hopewell. In other area games it was TD 48 Dinwiddie 20, Matoaca 41 Hopewell 7 and Meadowbrook 29 Petersburg 0. In Ga the Crawford County Eagles lost a very close game 14-7 to the Callaway Cavaliers and in NC Manteo beat the Gates County Barons 42-7. At the hockey game last night the Dogs gave up 3 goals in about a 1:30 seconds and they were never able to recover from that, they just came at flat, there were 4 or 5 fights though and we won those for the most part. The Dogs play in Adirondack tonight and sunday. Today in college football UVA is ant UNC-1, Temple at Clemson-35, Fla ST-30 at Duke and NC State-3 at Wake Forest. In some other games ECU at Memphis-7, Arkansas at Georgia-19, Texas-17 at Texas Tech, and USC-30 at Washington. MICKEY PS ADDED HOCKEY PHOTOS FROM DOGS TEAM PHOTOGRAGHER

In high school football tonight CH travels to Prince George, Dinwiddie at Thomas Dale, Petersburg at Meadowbrook and Hopewell will be at Mataoca. The ICU Stays Alive

The ICU softball stays alive in the CH Fall Ball playoffs. The ICU won the first game against The Bomb Squad 15-5 in 5 innings and then beat Dinwiddie Sluggers 6-5 in a thriller. In the Dinwiddie game it was a pitchers dual for the most part and the ICU played some tremendous defense. The ICU took the lead 3-1 on 3run Hr by Jordan castanada and the Sluggers tied it at 3 and it stayed that way until the top of the seventh. In the top of the 7 the Sluggers got 2 runs to take a 5-3 lead, but the ICU got 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh to win it. The last run was pretty dramatic with 1 out Rick Toombs the winning run fell down about 15ft from home plate, he got up fell again and started crawling towards home as PACKY rounds third and heads for home and the outfielder throws the ball home plate the catcher tags Packy out for the second out as Ricky reaches and gets his hand on home plate for the winning run. Ricky had to run because I had to have a pinch runner after I injured my hip and hamstring running to first and I am day to day. The ICU will be back in action Monday night at 6:30 and yes it is a do or die game. MICKEY

"The World Turned Upside Down"

General Cornwallis did not attend the surrender ceremony saying that he was not feeling well. His substitute, General O'Hara, first tried to surrender to the Comte de Rochambeau who directed the British officer to General Washington who in turn directed him to Washington's subordinate General Lincoln. During the ceremony a British band played the song "The World Turned Upside Down." Dr. James Thacher served with the Continental Army and published his account of the surrender some years later:

This was the first ICU game we've been to all year and for about 4 innings i was begining to belive that one of us was a jinks!! good thing thae bats came alive!!

GAME RECAP. The ICU softball came out a bit flat tuesday night before somebody woke up the bats. The ICU was down 10-1 before the comeback started and the ICU came away with a 19-11 victory. I know Brian Holt and Jack Williams hit Hr's for the ICU, there was on more HR and I can't remember who hit it. The ICU will be back in plyoff action on wed night at 8:15 on Lakeview #1 field. The playoffs are double elimination, and win or lose we will play again wed night. The Astros were one out a away from going to the World Series last night before Albert Pujols stepped to the plat and hit a 3run HR in the top of the 9th to give the Cards a 5-4 lead and they held on the bottom of the 9th win it to force game 6 wed night in St Louis. Also last night the NFL the Colts spotted the Rams 17 points before the came back and won the game 45-28 to improve to 6-0 on the season. Hockey season starts friday night in Richmond. MICKEY
